Anybody know why printer cartridges are hard to find

Actually I am only talking about the ones I want but they have been unavailable on Amazon for weeks.

They usually cost about £55 for a multipack which is a bloody rip off in my opinion but now they are 'only available for these sellers' and the prices start at over £90.

I check every day but Amazon themselves never seem to have any stock.

Because everyone is home schooling their kids and printing stuff out that they wouldn’t normally

CarlaH · 07/06/2020 17:03

Very good point but I thought that Amazon might get the blasted things back in stock at some point.

I really have been looking every day and sometimes several times a day.

I think it’s just the same as hand sanitiser for example, we realise all of a sudden that things we thought we could buy whenever we wanted aren’t made or stocked widely enough for the whole world to buy it at once

CarlaH · 07/06/2020 17:09

Yup you are probably right.

I wondered if anybody knows whether supply chains are breaking down or it is just too many people wanting the same thing.

which ones are you after ?
try wilko's own brand ones, they work ok in my old epson printer
although my ones have been out of stock since lockdown Angry

HoHoHolyCow · 07/06/2020 17:13

Have you tried the stinky ink website? I got a couple of sets of cartridges from there at the start of lockdown as I knew we'd be printing so much!

jammydodgerz · 07/06/2020 17:13

Have you tried the supermarket? I struggled to find cartridges for mine online, ended up paying extra for one on amazon, and didn't think of the supermarket.

When I next went shopping (before the cartridge had actually arrived), they had loads of stock at normal price in Sainsbury's. It was extremely annoying Grin

DanFmDorking · 07/06/2020 17:14

@CarlaH - Please tell me the make and number of the printer cartridge/s you are looking for.

Invisimamma · 07/06/2020 17:51

Amazon were super expensive for thr cartridges I needed and also out fo stock for weeks. I got them in tesco for £12 each!! Not branded but they are working fine.

MummaMeerkat · 07/06/2020 17:59

I went direct to the hp website. Surprisingly, cheaper than amazon and delivered within 48 hours

NineteenForever · 07/06/2020 18:12

Try cartridgeshop.co uk

Pavlova31 · 07/06/2020 19:25

IJT is a good website for printer cartridges and printers.

SillyCow6 · 07/06/2020 19:26

Yep homeschooling and people working from home is the issue

alphajuliet123 · 07/06/2020 19:36

I went to buy new ink, and I'm not kidding it was cheaper to buy a new printer with ink included. So I did. Same might happen in a few weeks when this one runs out. Ridiculous

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 07/06/2020 19:40

Bite the bullet and get a laser.

eurochick · 07/06/2020 19:43

I've got through a huge amount more ink due to homeschooling and printing work docs that would usually be sent to massive office printers on my little home one. I am having the same issue with supplies now. It was fine earlier in lockdown.

redskittleorangeskittle · 07/06/2020 19:45

Try Argos.

WhoWouldHaveThoughtThat · 07/06/2020 19:47

I know what you mean. I bought some but can I find the wretched things now. I know I put them somewhere safe... Wink

JassyRadlett · 07/06/2020 19:49

I think it will be the same as flour. There isn’t a shortage of actual ink per se - but the demand has shifted massively from large office- or school-based printers to home devices, and it won’t be straightforward to shift production from one to the other.

Bite the bullet and get a laser.

Got one a few months before lockdown and best decision ever.

Hippofrog · 07/06/2020 19:52

I subscribed to Instant Ink, saved me a fortune

thesedaysarescary · 07/06/2020 20:26

I can't get a colour cartridge for my printer anywhere tried online and the supermarket. I pay £12 normally in Asda/Sainsbury's eBay and Amazon have them for £55 I refuse to pay it!

WhoWouldHaveThoughtThat · 07/06/2020 20:30

@DisgraceToTheYChromosome is it a colour laser? Was model is it? Was it is expensive

Longdistance · 07/06/2020 20:33

I’ve had trouble getting Canon printer ink. Dh was going into work to print off important stuff for dds Blush couldn’t get printer ink for love nor money. Amazon delivered some XL cartridges which last longer.
Which printer do you have?

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 07/06/2020 21:06

@ WhoWouldHaveThoughtThat

Samsung C410. Small footprint, cloud ready (handy for printing directly from work to home), reasonable cartridge prices.
