Please tell me what this card game is. It’s driving me crazy!

Ok. It has lots of rounds. A bit like whist but not whist. I vaguely remember it builds up to some sort of peak round then back down again but I may be mistaken. There was about 12 rounds each with a different goal. We played it at university and I cannot got the life of me remember what it was called. Any ideas? Smile

Ring of fire?

Borgonzola · 18/05/2020 22:28

My family plays this - nomination whist

Doje · 18/05/2020 22:31

I've just googled, and 'Ten Up' is the same game as 'Oh Hell'!!

Shit head?

Institutkarite · 18/05/2020 22:32

Cheat, also known as bullshit. Wiki has some sort of explanation

greensnail · 18/05/2020 22:33

Mexican rummy?

Arseit · 18/05/2020 22:33

No clearly not, having re-read your op. But it was pretty much the only card game we played (all the time!) at uni.

MulticolourMophead · 18/05/2020 22:34

I think I know the game. Different aims for each round? I think it's called Hearts.

It's not Hearts. That where the suit of Hearts plus the Queen of Spades are all point bearing cards, and you play with 3 other people. Each person is dealt 13 cards, and you're putting one card out per round. At the end of each round, the point cards you've "won" are added up, with the aim to be the one with the lowest points total.

Bumfuzzled · 18/05/2020 22:34

Shithead? We used to play it constantly at school.

Neednewwellies · 18/05/2020 22:35

Oh @LemonPudding, yes, it might be called Hearts. That sounds familiar. Can you remember the rules?

Diminishing whist?

Eminybob · 18/05/2020 22:36

@Arseit
LOVE shithead. Played it in school and dh and I now still play at age 40!

flamingnoravera · 18/05/2020 22:37

I came on going to say Go Johnny Go Go Go too 😁

Neednewwellies · 18/05/2020 22:50

We played a game, using two packs of cards, 12 cards each, 7 rounds. First round Aim was to get two sets of three (6cards), second round set of three, run of four (seven cards), third round two runs of four ( 8 cards) etc etc etc up to using your whole hand.... aim was to be first out each hand, remaining players had to count up what they were left with. Something about buying cards, stopping other people from getting certain cards. Quite good game but can’t remember name or proper rules but if it sounds familiar I’ll message a friend who has a better memory than me!

NothingInterestingToDeclare · 18/05/2020 22:55

Was going to say shithead too love it no idea if it has a more elegant name!!

Bumpinthenight · 18/05/2020 22:56

The game Hearts that I think people are talking about, we call Chase the Lady.
Rounds are trumps of :
Hearts
Clubs
Diamonds
Spades
No trumps
So only 5 rounds.

All cards are dealt out. You can pass three cards on to the next person (normally the highest trump cards, hearts or the Q of S). Idea is not to win any hearts or the Q of S otherwise you get points.

But then again this might not be the same game as others are thinking of Grin

Arseit · 18/05/2020 22:57

I’d love to know if Shit head did ever have a more refined name, or who named it Shit head!

BasalGanglia · 18/05/2020 22:59

Oh hell?

FlibbertyGiblets · 18/05/2020 22:59

OP your game is Nomination Whist.

PorpentiaScamander · 18/05/2020 23:00

Sounds nothing like the game we know as shithead. Or cheat/bulllshit

Chase the lady sounds like what we always called 'chase the ace'

Thats the trouble with card games. They dont have one set name Grin

Neednewwellies · 18/05/2020 23:23

@FlibbertyGiblets, thanks but it’s not Nomination Whist as no partners or bidding.

MummingIt2018 · 18/05/2020 23:28

Sounds like Beany. Each round has a trump card - starting with ace, 2, 3 etc that you can use in place of any card. Idea is to build sets like in rummy so a run of one suit ie 4,5,6,7 of clubs or a set ie all four suits of a number or face card. You got up total of cards you're left with and winner has fewest points. You go through each card as the trump so there's a lot of rounds and you keep score. Many a happy night playing beany!

MotherofTerriers · 18/05/2020 23:36

I think we called it blob

TheSmallAssassin · 18/05/2020 23:47

@BeesandGees that sounds like a, game that my family used to lay called Yes Please, I can't remember all the rules either, but there were two packs of cards and you had different things to get each time. And there must have been some claiming cards from other people to give it the name, but can't remember how that worked!
