Eggs but no lice/nits?

Just checked DD's hair thoroughly as her cousins have nits (we see them as I care for my DM) I cannot find one lice in her hair but these look like eggs to me? 🤦🏻‍♀️

Eggs but no lice/nits?

Are they stuck fast to the hair or easy to slide off? If stuck they’re eggs.

Helpppp101 · 16/05/2020 18:32

@LokisLover yes so where have the nits gone!? 🙃

They are old eggs, new eggs (nits) are black. On her colour hair it’s hard to see nits and eggs have you not combed?

(Hmm have spent far to much time tackling nits!!)

june2007 · 16/05/2020 18:38

Eggs are the nits, the creepy crawlies are the lice. I believe. I suggest condition and wet comb.

NoSquirrels · 16/05/2020 18:44

You just haven't combed enough. They're there...

Do you have a Nitty Gritty comb - rather than a cheaper alternative? And do you have a load of cheap conditioner?

The combs with shorter teeth won't find them, and you need to properly slather on the conditioner.

Poetryinaction · 16/05/2020 18:47

There will be loads with all those eggs. Get some solution and a comb.

BeetrootRocks · 16/05/2020 18:47

They look like eggs alright!

My DDs have hair looks similar to yours. Nitty gritty it was always getting caught in the metal and pulling out. I used a cheap plastic one from the chemist and loads of conditioner. Worked a treat.

You need to do it every day to start and then you can do every other day etc, check the lifecycle of a head louse to see how long to go before eradicated.

Helpppp101 · 16/05/2020 18:48

Yes went through her hair as if I was giving her highlights and then went over and over! Found lots in my nieces hair but none in DD's 😖 think ill treat her anyway just incase 🤢

When I said I can't find one lice in her hair I meant I used a metal comb 😄

Trust me they are there...little fuckers..

Apple23 · 16/05/2020 19:32

Lice lay their eggs near the scalp and they grow out with the hair, so those have been there some time. Look behind ears and at nape of neck. They may be there or may have since shuffled off to find a new home.

InTheCludgie · 16/05/2020 22:55

I have a potentially stupid question re treating a lice infestation. Do you put the conditioner on, rinse it off then comb through with the nitty gritty while hair is still wet?

Smellbellina · 16/05/2020 23:25

No you put it on dry hair and comb through then rinse

dementedpixie · 16/05/2020 23:28

If they are white they are empty egg cases. As they are so far away from the scalp they are from an old infestation

InTheCludgie · 17/05/2020 14:55

Thanks Smell this has worked great

Helpppp101 · 17/05/2020 15:44

@dementedpixie I find that so strange! I checked her a few weeks back when she was still at nursery and no lice then or eggs! Now she just has eggs or the shell!? 🤷🏻‍♀️ when did they come and when did they go! Little buggers 🤦🏻‍♀️

OP posts:
Helpppp101 · 17/05/2020 18:19

Here are todays finding with the nitty gritty comb and conditioner 🤷🏻‍♀️ Still no moving lice! Hope they are not on my head instead 😂😂😂

The fact that the eggs are so far down the hair means they've been there for ages. Thus is not a new infection. That might explain why there are no live Lice ATM. Are there eggs on hair closer to the head?

avroroad · 17/05/2020 18:31

think ill treat her anyway just incase 🤢

Just in case? She has had nits for a while.

dementedpixie · 17/05/2020 18:37

She has no lice though. You dont need to treat if there aren't live lice. Could it be something other than eggs? Does she have a dry scalp/dandruff?

avroroad · 17/05/2020 18:40

She has no lice though. You dont need to treat if there aren't live lice.

Do they just go away themselves? I always tested if we found nits, I thought you were supposed to tbh.

dementedpixie · 17/05/2020 18:48

OP has not found any lice despite checking a few times. They are either not nits (empty egg cases) or from a previous time they had lice as they are so far down the hair strand

Helpppp101 · 17/05/2020 22:42

@dementedpixie we have never had lice before, I have checked her once a few weeks back (early march) as they had a few cases at nursery nothing then and checked her now as her cousins have lice and eggs!

Find it very strange how there is no lice! I definitely checked her thoroughly she was screaming at me to stop it took that long 😓
