Random question - does anybody know how many minutes into the movie the iceberg scene is?
And how much of the movie is left after this scene until the end?
Thanks!

Sorry I don't know but YouTube has loads of Titanic stuff which gives timings etc.

SierraHotel · 15/05/2020 10:19

When they actually hit the iceberg? I think theres ages left after that. The whole film is about 3 hours long..I guesstimate 2 hours.
My dd used to love it, she went through a phase when she watched it every day 🤷‍♀️

hippohector · 15/05/2020 14:42

Yeah the time (in the film) that it actually hits the iceberg.
I’ll have a look on YouTube

No sorry, but I am now super curious as to why?

Lllot5 · 15/05/2020 14:46

I heard the film was longer than the ship took to sink. I not convinced that’s true btw but I wondered if that’s why op asked.

Pinkblueberry · 15/05/2020 14:51

@Lllot5 must be. I think it took something like 2 and a half hours for the ship to sink, the film is over three hours long.
I think the ship hits the iceberg about half way through the film - just under 2 hours in maybe?

StuntCroissant · 15/05/2020 14:52

Hits iceberg at 1hr36 in.

There's another 1hr30 after that (inc credits).

Why?

Flippinfurloughed · 15/05/2020 14:54

I am curious as to why you want to know now?!

My ex collected watches, and one of my favourites of his was a steam punk one made of bits of the titanic wreck with the dial like the ships controls or something. It blew my mind a little bit whenever he wore it Blush

JMAngel1 · 15/05/2020 14:54

Ok, so what is this about? I'm catholic and have never heard of traybakes as a thing??

Horehound · 15/05/2020 14:55

I suppose there's all the scenes of everyone rushing around, the band playing, the lifeboat rope snapping, the captain at the helm, then the actual sinking, then the rescue to get bodies out the water, jack dying, back into dry land. But even with all that I'm surprised is 1.5 to the end!

sparklefarts · 15/05/2020 14:56

@JMAngel1 I think you're on the wrong thread Grin

notimagain · 15/05/2020 15:10

Shouldn't there have been a spoiler alert.....Grin

Anyhow according to the Walter Lord book on this, "A Night to Remember" .

The impact happened at about 2340 ...
The ship went under at 0220 (according to various witnesses).

So 2 hrs 40...Pinkblueberry was almost spot on.

Lord's book is a bit long in the tooth now so I don't know if those times have ever been revised by later research.

OdeYellerBelly · 15/05/2020 15:18

I can't tell you how many minutes in the scene is but I worked on the movie, just the modern day bits though.

Moonmelodies · 15/05/2020 15:34

Which Titanic movie?

Yerroblemom1923 · 15/05/2020 15:37

I'm guessing the one called Titanic with Leonardo and Kate Windswept....

hippohector · 15/05/2020 15:38

Thanks all!
DSS is doing a project on the Titanic. There’s no way he will sit through the whole film, and he is only interested in the iceberg/sinking bits anyway, not the whole love story that goes with the film, so I was going to show him just from that point onwards.
However, if there is still another 1hr 30mins after the iceberg scene I might have to rethink.
I could look for some documentaries I guess, but I wanted him to get a feel for the human element to it as well as the actual physical sinking.

Which Titanic movie?
The Leonardo Di Caprio and Kate Winslet one

isabellerossignol · 15/05/2020 15:42

There is loads of Titanic stuff on YouTube, biographies of passengers and the like, that might help with the human side?

Soubriquet · 15/05/2020 15:43

The only trivia I can add, is the length of time it took for the actual titanic to sink, is exactly how long it is in the film after the boat hit the iceberg Grin

hippohector · 15/05/2020 15:46

Thanks isabellerossignol I’ll have a look

He would probably be better watching A Night to Remember

Drogonssmile · 15/05/2020 15:49

It's roughly about half way through so about an hour and a half in I think. My 6 year old son is obsessed with Titanic!

dancingthroughthedark · 15/05/2020 15:49

There's also a documentary which is on YouTube called Titanic, the Nightmare and the Dream which might be good for a project and it's only an hour or so long.

hippohector · 15/05/2020 15:56

Sorry, one more question if anyone knows the answer...
Is the sex scene with Jack and Rose in the car before or after the iceberg hitting bit?
I know it’s only a mild sex scene but I’d still prefer to avoid it if possible in case we do watch it!

Thanks dancingthroughthedark
