Is there a great vacuum cleaner for under £100?

We have mostly hard floors and I just want a reasonably-priced vacuum cleaner that does a great job. I've spent hundreds on Dysons and Mieles in the past and been really disappointed with them. Is there such a thing . . . ?

Oh - we have two massive hairy cats, if that makes a difference!

Henry

I had a dyson. Hated it. Got a Henry for £150 and it’s the best thing ever!

DorsetCamping · 02/05/2020 21:26

Henry's are too heavy

I got a shark duo (the corded one) for £109 and I love it! Very lightweight, easy to manoeuvre around table legs and it takes up all the cat hair that my old vax didn’t even touch.

RedPandaFluff · 02/05/2020 21:40

See I'm not sure about Henrys - they look cumbersome and awkward. I have heard a lot of good things about them though.

Googling the Shark Duo . . .

I bought a Shark Lift Away today. Two words - Game. Changer.

Little over your mentioned budget but it is currently on offer in Argos for £149.99. Ordered it last night and it arrived this morning!

Flummingbird · 02/05/2020 21:44

this is really good, however I mainly have carpets. Way better than my old days on though...

Flummingbird · 02/05/2020 21:45

Old dyson...

1984isnow · 02/05/2020 22:04

I have a Shark Liftaway after angry crying over Henry one too many times. I loved it until I got a shaggy rug. I can't use the carpet setting on the rug, as the roller brush gets jammed and the normal setting just seems to roll cat fur into balls.

It's great on flat rugs, and fine on hard floor

Rosie2000 · 02/05/2020 22:04

I have the Shark liftaway too. The crap it picks up is incredible, had mine for around 3 years

borntobequiet · 02/05/2020 22:05

Mine cost about £40.

Chewbecca · 02/05/2020 22:09

DH rates our Vax pet vacuum cleaner, costs around £100.

Davros · 02/05/2020 22:15

GTech HyLite. Sorry, don't know why the link's come out massive and not clickable. £99.99 this weekend with code LG86

moanyhole · 02/05/2020 22:31

Shart liftaway is amazing for carpets and rugs. The amount it picks up is fascinating but tbh I dont think its any great shakes on hard floors. I have the liftaway for my rugs and carpet in one room, its worth it for that alone. I have a brilliant tesco plug in then for the hars floors. Runs around the place and suction hasnt diminished in the 2 years ive had it. 50 euro only. Looks like a dyson one and is blue

RedPandaFluff · 03/05/2020 13:26

Thanks everyone - going to have a look at those options today. I quite fancy a Shark but DH had a good experience with a Vax . . .Grin

I have gone through 2 Vax, both good to a point, just got Shark Liftaway (yes over your budget but thinking longterm) and it's really good.

GiantKitten · 03/05/2020 14:25

This one was recommended by Which a bit ago
It is incredibly cheap - under £60!
Also bagless so no extra costs.
Amazon Basics Cyclonic

Thelnebriati · 03/05/2020 14:36

There was an EU ruling that made vacuum cleaners less powerful, so look for a good used one made pre 2017. There were some new on Ebay for £60 last year, so its worth looking.

RoseDog · 03/05/2020 15:07

I ordered the shark lift away yesterday to replace my Gtech (RIP), this thread gives me hope the shark will be good!

YappityYapYap · 03/05/2020 15:08

Henry

GiantKitten · 03/05/2020 16:15

They’re not less powerful, they just use less power.

I’ve got Miele cylinders from before and after the EU change & the newer one is as good if not better.

GiantKitten · 03/05/2020 16:17

It’s not about the wattage, it’s about how well they’re designed.

Is there a great vacuum cleaner for under £100?
MasterGland · 03/05/2020 18:21

Henry. Had mine since the dawn of time.
