DS is 11y 8m, and lived me ranting about the Fleetwood Mac v Coes thread earlier. He’s getting very into music, but would like opinions on what other “Classic” albums he should be listening to. He’s got an Echo Dot in his room and access to my Amazon Music account, so hit us with your suggestions - he already loves Guy Garvey/Elbow and Queen - not too sweary or sexy please, he’s only 11 and pretty naive country mouse at that.

So far we have:
Fleetwood Mac - Rumours
The Beatles - The White Album
Queen - Best of, Night at the Opera

He can have Green Day -American Idiot when he’s older!

@Judashascomeintosomemoney / I’m not really that familiar with Jeff Beck, what’s good to start with?

Just about every Cure album up until Disintigration, but if I had to pick one, Kiss me, Kiss me, Kiss me.

Dire Straits - Money for Nothing.

Every U2 album prior to Joshua Tree.

INXS - Kick

New Model Army - Ghost of Cain and Thunder and Consolidation.

Levellers - Levelling the Land

Well he was in the Yardbirds (Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page), and The Jeff Beck Group (Rod Stewart, Ronnie Wood) - check out ‘Beck’s Bolero’. He’s played with Roger Waters, Stevie Wonder, The Pretenders and evening Johnny Depp (Isolation, just out)....too many to mention. He’s gone on to do really innovative stuff over the years, often showcasing excellent vocalists and musicians (particularly women) like Tal Wilkenfeld, Imelda May, Imogen Heap and Rosie Bones. And his guitar playing is sublime, he can make a guitar sound like anything other than a guitar - the human voice - on Nadia (listen to the Nitin Sawheny original). A bird - Blackbird. The best showcase album is You Had It Coming, IMO.

Fields of Gold by Eva Cassidy

Just so he can hear a beautiful voice.

And some Abba - Arrival - just for the album cover. Which you just don't get on Alexa music!

It's great your DS is getting into music. My DS sort of listens to Absolute Rock when we are in the car but God forbid he would say he liked any of the music

AC/DC - Live at River Plate. The version of Thunderstruck is fantastic and you really get a sense of the incredible atmosphere. I'm not one for love albums usually but I make an exception for this one!

Dire Straits - Brother's in Arms is a great shout too.
