DS is 11y 8m, and lived me ranting about the Fleetwood Mac v Coes thread earlier. He’s getting very into music, but would like opinions on what other “Classic” albums he should be listening to. He’s got an Echo Dot in his room and access to my Amazon Music account, so hit us with your suggestions - he already loves Guy Garvey/Elbow and Queen - not too sweary or sexy please, he’s only 11 and pretty naive country mouse at that.

So far we have:
Fleetwood Mac - Rumours
The Beatles - The White Album
Queen - Best of, Night at the Opera

He can have Green Day -American Idiot when he’s older!

Kate Bush - The Kick Inside
Pink Floyd - The Wall or Dark Side of the Moon

Best ofs are hardly classic albums

A classic album should have no more than one or two tracks not up to the standard of a single

Together alone - crowded house
Nothing like the sun - sting
I prefer the bends to ok computer but either would do

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 29/04/2020 20:42

(He needs to hear some Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen too but, honestly, like Bowie, there’s just too much to pick one album each)

BikeRunSki · 29/04/2020 20:43

Brilliant stuff, thank you

Ziggy Stardust and Abbey Rd were the soundtrack to his first few months (also The Killers). He already quite partial to a bit of Bowie, AC/DC and Pink Floyd, but prefers Wish You Were Here to Dark Side.

I realise that “Best Ofs” are not classic albums, but they can contain some really good, strong tracks and be a gateway to a band/singer’s wider repertoire.

Love Graceland, and Bridge Over.,,, reminds me of my own childhood (Art Garfunkel and I had similar hairstyles at the time).

I think we’re going to have fun here. He’s just started (well , he went once, the week before lockdown) to his school rock band to have a go on an electric guitar (he recently passed G2 on classical) , so I’m think a bit of Cream, Hendrix too. I’ll try and think of something more recent!

Brilliant thread OP, thank you. I’m now listening to some of the other PPs recommendations whilst I cook the dinner!
