What nice things have you overheard from neighbours gardens during lockdown?

Being on a corner plot, we can easily hear people in 4 or 5 gardens, many of whom we've never met as it is their back garden backing onto our back garden with fences & hedges in between.
One family has, I guess, a pre-schooler. It was his birthday a couple of weeks ago and he had a swing. Much excitement! He has been trying to learn to swing himself with his parents regularly saying "you've got to move your legs in and out not just say "legs out; legs in"". He seems to have nailed it this weekend!
Another family have a baby who seems to gurgle and chuckle a lot and just sounds very contented with life.
Someone a bit further away has a competent pianist (although I'd quite like them to move onto another piece). I'm less enthusiastic about the violin playing as they're still at the very screechy stage.

This is THE most delightful thread!
With a special mention for Littlelemonposset Grin
Please keep it going?

cricketmum84 · 26/04/2020 18:56

@Bienentrinkwasser my littlest DD did this 😍 all her own idea. She made a traybake and wrapped up a couple of pieces for neighbours either side then left it on their doorsteps and knocked and ran away. I was pretty proud of her

Katinski · 26/04/2020 18:57

JohnnyMcGrath, I'm reading this in a Joyce Grenfell-type voice.HilariousGrin

Neighbour at the bottom of the garden talking to her chickens - they all have names and different characters so she has animated conversations with each individually.

slavetothenhs · 26/04/2020 19:04

What a lovely thread ❤️ we have a Polish family living next to us and I love hearing their little girl who's about five bouncing on her trampoline singing nonsense songs that I can't understand. In general I am so grateful that our neighbours are all nice people!

ivfgottostaypositive · 26/04/2020 19:05

My neighbours a few doors down sang happy birthday for their dog the other day - I really wanted to join in!

fudgefeet · 26/04/2020 19:08

I can hear my neighbours young daughter singing all day in Spanish, it’s very cute. Makes up for the moments she screams at the top of her lungs!

MadisonMontgomery · 26/04/2020 19:15

My new neighbours have two teenage daughters, one with a learning disability - her sister is so patient with her and plays hopscotch, skipping etc and sings with her for hours without getting bored or teenagerish, it’s actually really lovely (I hope that doesn’t sound patronising, it really really isn’t meant to be).

In return they get me having to lavishly praise my dog every time he goes to the toilet (he makes aggressive eye contact & groans until you do)

working5to9 · 26/04/2020 19:18

I can safely say that none of my neighbours will be coming on here to comment on the patience of my parenting or the good behaviour of my DC!
This thread was inspired by the retired neighbours who we do know commenting on how much they were enjoying the random conversations my two are having and how infectious DC2's giggle is. Considering how loud my DC can be, how much time they are spending in the garden and how they're pretty much abandoned for hours at a time as DH and I are both wfh but really busy, I was very relieved.

Our neighbour appears to be very talented at singing opera.

I like opera 😄

SimonJT · 26/04/2020 19:22

Our neighbour has three dogs, if any of them are on the balcony their owner/s get the dogs to ‘talk’ to my son, he genuinely believes the doggies are having a good chat with him. In normal times we sometimes pop round, they haven’t considered how long they’re going to have to keep up the talking dogs routine!

Jacquel · 26/04/2020 19:26

This is a fantastic thread! We can hear the lovely family next door, and Their children bouncing on their trampoline, chattering away. It’s so nice to hear them playing and chattering. I am missing my grandchildren so much and hearing them play fills my heart with joy!

Brigante9 · 26/04/2020 19:31

Cute boys next door, they play together so nicely.

My neighbours probably hear me telling the dogs to go and look at their frogs. They’re currently obsessed.

ElphiasDoge · 26/04/2020 19:39

Our neighbour very patiently took about 15 minutes explaining to her mum via FaceTime how to sign up to the White Stuff mailing list. Was very sweet!

And on the other side she’s been hula hooping all afternoon whilst reading a book which is very impressive!

The kids at the back are always outside kicking a ball against the fence. It drives DH mad but I think it’s nice. They’ve been doing this for the entire 3 years we’ve lived here and I’m just amazed they’re not bored of it! They always have complex chats about football management. I think the older one is maybe 8ish and the younger maybe 5.

fourquenelles · 26/04/2020 19:50

Little boy next door is out in the garden with his dad all day (mum works from home), He is being taught about bugs and insects, colours and how to be kind even to spiders. He seems to know quite complicated shapes for a 3 year old too. He is also being potty trained and has got very good at asking to go. His dad is so patient with him. It's lovely to hear.
Next door neighbour the other side knocked on her way to the supermarket to ask if I needed anything and neighbour 2 doors down left a slice on banana and walnut bread wrapped in foil for me on my garden wall.
They hear me telling off biggest dog who tries to wind up his 2 brothers by yipping at them like a tiny terrier!

Crunchymum · 26/04/2020 20:00

Yep other way round here too. My neighbours must have heard me moaning about the lack of stock for crafty stuff (I'd been on "The Works") and they left a bag of stuff for the kids.... had been saving it for their grandkids but wont see them for a while so donated it to us.

Neighbours across the way have their son's (presumed newish) GF with them and it was lovely to hear all the embarrassing baby stories about him during a drunken bbq last week Grin

Gooseygoosey12345 · 26/04/2020 20:01

Not much! Can hear my friend/neighbour in the garden with her kids occasionally, her partner sometimes plays his ukulele outside. We had a sing-a-long with my guitar and his uke as well one afternoon. The other side do a bit of gardening. It's pretty quiet round here

Karmatime · 26/04/2020 20:10

Young single guy on one side of us talks to his cats and he has voices for them to talk back.

Hassled · 26/04/2020 20:20

It's pretty quiet round here apart from next door but one's 2 little girls who giggle and boss each other round and argue and then giggle again endlessly. I bloody love them. My DCs are all grown up so hearing that again is just lovely.

Leah2005 · 26/04/2020 20:36

@Karmatime love that young single guy.

ClientQ · 26/04/2020 20:38

My neighbours granddaughter is obsessed with my cat
All I can hear is "CAT! Where cat? CATTTTTTT" Grin
The cat parades himself outside to be admired

beebeedandelion · 26/04/2020 20:38

We have toddlers next door and they sit in the garden singing which is so cute.

Rollercoasteride · 26/04/2020 20:43

Next door chatting to her husband, asking if we would want their spare bottle of sanitizer Grin

Wired4sound · 26/04/2020 20:46

The fabulous sound of next door spray painting the new fence panels on both sides so I don’t have to paint our bit!

Must get them wine to say thanks
