... because you'll die of drinking detergent first.

Heard an expert say this on the radio earlier, made me Grin (in an OMFG we're all fucked kind of way tbf...)

I know Trump's batshit and his supporters don't seem to care - but surely he can't come back from this, can he?

He's the President of the USA stood in front of worlds press with millions listening to him. It is neither the time or the place to be 'thinking out loud' about something so important in the middle of a pandemic where thousands are dying.

He's yet again made himself look like a rambling uneducated fool.

differentnameforthis · 26/04/2020 09:32

I read someone on fb saying "medical detergent is different from household detergent" in Trumps defence.

Plus...

Grenon styles himself as “archbishop” of Genesis II – a Florida-based outfit that claims to be a church but which in fact is the largest producer and distributor of chlorine dioxide bleach as a “miracle cure” in the US. He brands the chemical as MMS, “miracle mineral solution”, and claims fraudulently that it can cure 99% of all illnesses including cancer, malaria, HIV/Aids as well as autism.

leader of group peddling bleach as coronavirus 'cure' wrote to Trump this week

There is a group who thinks MMS cures autism, and parents get sucked in and give their children bleach enemas to "cure" them. There will be people who will take his "sarcasm" at face value, and I think there already has been a death..

ScreamingKid · 26/04/2020 09:34

As did Boris when he gleefully told everyone he'd been shaking peoples hands in hospital.

Goes to show these jobs aren't given out on merit.Hmm

sueelleker · 26/04/2020 09:46

Toys out the pram along with the dummy I think No, it was the dummy who threw the toys out of the pram.

GulliBelle · 26/04/2020 10:25

So either he was being sarcastic as he claims, or he was thinking aloud as a pp claims. It can't be both, even in Trump world.

NoMorePoliticsPlease · 26/04/2020 10:29

I watched the clip several times. He wasnt being sarcastic. He was musing and asking a stupid question of his scientific advisor who was visibly shocked. He clearly thought it was an intersting line to ponder about, and he always lets these thoughts fall out of his mouth

chomalungma · 26/04/2020 10:32

It seems that he had already asked his science adviser about the disinfectant question - just by reading the transcript.

His science adviser isn't a medical scientist - at least not the one who presented the data on disinfectants.

I wonder if he asked Dr Birx before the briefing those questions.

ItsGoingTibiaK · 26/04/2020 13:27

@Muminabun

When you’re one of the most powerful people in the world, you should know better than to ‘think out loud’ when you’re doing a press conference being watched by millions of people - particularly when you’re thick as shit and can barely string together a coherent sentence.

And then to lie to the world about it, claiming that you were being sarcastic, and then changing your mind and claiming you were actually just referring to using disinfectant and light on hands...

The man is irresponsible and dangerous. He’s clearly not competent to hold the position he does, and his words and actions have serious consequences for the whole world. I despair.

Muminabun · 26/04/2020 14:17

I believe American republicans call the hysteria, ‘trump derangement syndrome’. I can see why. His ratings are better than Obama’s. There is a reason why this is. ,clearly many Americans are very happy with him.

georgedawes · 26/04/2020 14:29

Love the trump bots, turn up with a defence that he didn't even use himself then pivot to ratings and fake news media. Yawn.

EdwynCollins · 26/04/2020 14:34

Covid-19 has proved that some people can defend even the worst idiot.
Trump, Boris they can say anything and people will defend them. We could have the worst death rate in the world and they will still defend government decisions
A friend has shared a FB post allegedly from a family who's relative died of a heart attack and C-19 was put on the death certificate despite them complaining. They are alleging that the figures are being artificially raisedHmm

ItsGoingTibiaK · 26/04/2020 14:36

I think the republicans need a better PR agency if the best term they can think of to insult their opponents actually accurately describes the mental state of their president.

Kljnmw3459 · 26/04/2020 14:47

The world has another 4 years of him, but what scares me more is what kind of even more extreme rightwing lunatic will follow him to the white house. And no, there's no hope for the Democrats much like there was no hope for labour last year. I fear that in 2024 we'll see some full on qanon nutcase take over.

chomalungma · 27/04/2020 11:58

@mummmy2017

Do you have any follow up on that bladder cancer treatment?

saraclara · 27/04/2020 12:29

Yes, he didn't outright TELL people to drink disinfectant. But his infantile suggestion that putting bleach in the body would work was clearly going to lead to some people trying it.

knittingaddict · 27/04/2020 13:33

Do you know the treatment for bladder cancer involved filling your bladder with a substance that kills germs.
Also he was on about UV killing the virus.
I believe there may also have been .....won't it be good if.... In the conversation.

Are you going to tie yourself in knots too mummy trying to rationalise what Trump said?

I know about the treatment for bladder cancer as my husband has had it many, many times. Which one do you mean? He has had BCG (the same thing as tuburculosis vaccine) and mitomycin injected into his bladder via a catheter. Both are horribly toxic with very unpleasant side effects. This is a cancer treatment Viruses are very different.

Like hell was what Trump said anything to do with an actual medical procedure. He was definitely talking about UV being put inside the body too. This is what he said:

"Supposing we hit the body with a tremendous, whether it’s ultraviolet or just very powerful light — and I think you said that hasn’t been checked but you’re going to test it.

And then I said supposing you brought the light inside the body, which you can do either through the skin or in some other way. And I think you said you're going to test that, too. Sounds interesting.

I see disinfectant, where it knocks it out in a minute, one minute, and is there a way we can do something like that by injection inside, or almost a cleaning. Because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs, so it’d be interesting to check that. So you’re going to have to use medical doctors, but it sounds interesting to me. So, we’ll see. But the whole concept of the light, the way it kills it in one minute, that’s pretty powerful."

The man's a dangerous idiot.

knittingaddict · 27/04/2020 13:40

It seems that he had already asked his science adviser about the disinfectant question - just by reading the transcript.

chomolungma I've listened to a few reports and it appears that Trump was briefed about light ie sunlight and UV (possibly) and disinfectants killing the virus. Externally. Being Trump and obviously a medical genius, he decided that internal use of UV and disinfectants should be looked at too. He's an utter fool and probably understands about a third of what he is ever told.

knittingaddict · 27/04/2020 13:51

Also mitomycin doesn't kill germs. It's a chemo drug that attacks cancer cells.

BCG is highly toxic and destroys the lining of the bladder and sets off an immune response and hopefully kills the cancer cells.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 27/04/2020 13:52

@Kljnmw3459, another four years of Trump Shock - it's not a certainty yet, surely! I have every digit crossed that enough of the US electorate votes for Biden to spare us that further horror. Biden is far from a perfect candidate, from my limited knowledge of US politics, but he'd be better than Trump. Almost anyone would.

HazelBite · 27/04/2020 14:32

Thing is we all have weird thoughts and musings and sometimes we voice them. Most politicians have the sense and intelligence not to put their "musings" in the public arena or put them on Twitter!

Unfortunately Trump is not a politician, he is an exceptionally sucessful businessman, which has given him a very inflated sense of "self" and he does not have a politicians insight as to know when you should keep your mouth shut.

knittingaddict · 27/04/2020 14:49

He is not an exceptionally successful business man either. He inherited a massive fortune, has gone bankrupt multiple times and would be worth more now if he had just left his inheritance in the bank. Why do you think he won't publish his tax returns?

bluedelphinium · 27/04/2020 15:13

I think the worst is that he seems to think that saying 'i was being sarcastic' is some kind of get out of jail free card. why on earth would that have been an appropriate forum for sarcasm, let alone suggesting untested theories that could potentially lead to dangerous misunderstandings by viewers? Zero humility.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 27/04/2020 15:30

It takes some sort of talent to go bust in the casino business. Not sure it's exceptional business talent, though.
