Lamenting the inevitable gap between how our hair should look and the actual reality

I know it's vain blah, blah, blah but I am worried (and if I'm honest, morbidly curious) about when I will get a haircut. I usually go every 5-6 weeks, currently I'm on week 10 with no end in sight.
I'm supposed to look a little like Emma Thompson, at the moment I bear more than a fleeting resemblance to Gene Hunt.
Please cheer me up with similar tales of woe Wink

I am well on the way to Cousin ItGrin
Even worse work are asking for pictures of us! I actually had to wash my hair this morning Grin

sadforthekoalas · 17/04/2020 13:34

Your pics made me laugh. I just don't look in the mirror during lockdown except to brush my teeth and then I focus on them

Dowser · 17/04/2020 13:35

Gosh 10 weeks?
Where are you.?
China?

My roots are down by my ears.

I was booked the Saturday after we went into lock down and they were already pretty bad then

I’m working from home fortunately, although I have to go to our yard every evening to do our horses.

DH’s hair is just getting bigger Grin

dowser My appointment was due a few days before lockdown but my salon had already closed

Oh I’m with you op. I know it’s self indulgent and unimportant and blah blah blah but it’s really starting to get me down, silly as that may be. I have a full head of blonde foils and the roots aren’t good. I feel like a slob and look like one too. I’m a key worker and working 65hr weeks, I don’t even get to hide!

Aaaahhhndrea · 17/04/2020 13:40

I myself am channelling an 80s-Samuel Pepys fusion.

It's not pretty Grin

TreacherousPissFlap · 17/04/2020 13:46

I had to google what Samuel Pepys hair looked like and I was not disappointed Grin

And I'm still working too retro, nowhere to run, nowhere to hide and inappropriate to wear a hat

I’ve been brave and got some hair dye from esalon (apparently better quality). It took ages to get here and now I’m feeling too chicken to do it. What’s the worst that could happen?!Hmm

Connie222 · 17/04/2020 13:51

I’d been debating growing out my fringe for ages. I sort of like the fact that I’ve been left with out a choice! (I’m NOT trimming it myself under any circumstances!)

dancerdog · 17/04/2020 13:56

I'm growing out my Mallen streak. A bit bit tempted to send away for the stuff that removes colour from your hair so that the whole streak can become visible at once but that could be a very big mistake, especially if it turns orange...

Knittedfairies · 17/04/2020 13:58

I took the scissors to my fringe earlier this week. At least nobody will see it..

motorcyclenumptiness · 17/04/2020 14:02

I've gone up several hat sizes since lockdown began. I've also chipped a tooth.
All cameras on all work devices are gaffer-taped over.

FallonSwift · 17/04/2020 14:06

I have an undercut which currently looks awful. I did it myself with DH's clippers at the start of week one, and it was ok - bit wonky but ok. It now desperately needs doing again and the fucking clippers have broken! I have resigned myself to growing the sides out again

TreacherousPissFlap · 17/04/2020 14:10

I've seen memes that compare the panic buying over toilet roll to the mad scramble for salon appointments once lockdown is lifted. Given my hairdresser only works two days a week anyway it could be several more weeks before I'm on a rest day and he has a free slot

Mine is supposed to look like the left image. It got too long and started looking like the top right. So I cut it myself (!!!) and now I'm left with the bottom right. Yikes. Confused

My DH’s head looks like a sheep!
A big woolly white mass!!

Mentounasc · 17/04/2020 14:20

Can I generate some real hairstyle envy by mentioning that I've just booked a hairdressing appointment for 6 May. The salons are allowed to open here in Germany on 4 May and I imagine appointments are pretty limited because fewer people are allowed in at one time, so I was delighted to get a slot. I also suspect both the hairdresser and I will need to wear a mask, which is fair enough, but I've no idea how that will work in practice.

BarbaraofSeville · 17/04/2020 14:51

I'm considering myself fortunate that I don't need haircuts as I just tie it back and trim the ends as needed but I did find myself wondering what Naga Munchetty has been doing as her pixie cut looked as it always does on the news this morning. Does she live with a hairdresser?

But yes, Mento, I can see that the hairdressers, along with restaurants, takeaways and fast food outlets will be absolutely packed out when they're allowed to open again.

ArseholesOnToast · 17/04/2020 15:06

My roots are shocking but luckily I’ve got a couple of box dyes which I bought ages ago when they were on offer.

After dying I’m doing to have a go at the Mumsnet haircut. There’s every possibility I’ll end up looking like Pat Sharpe circa 1989.

TreacherousPissFlap · 17/04/2020 16:44

MrsMoastyToasty · 17/04/2020 16:52

My hair is a Dawn French- Mary Beard fusion. I'll leave it to you to decide whether the roots or the ends are Mary Beard-ish.

Aaaahhhndrea · 17/04/2020 16:58

It's not even just the hair. It's the eyebrows and, let's be honest, the 'tash. They do not have this problem in the apocalypse movies.

Wetcarparkrain · 17/04/2020 17:05

Yeah, or why women’s hair looked the way it did in Victorian times. Like, older queen Victoria slicked back bun, not sexy chignonned debutante.

RuffleCrow · 17/04/2020 17:06

I have a reasonable mid length brown bob. With a frizz of grey/brown roots. Lovely Grin

Have ordered a couple of boxes of dye and everyday i watch the front door for signs of the delivery person, like a dog waiting for its owner. Grin
