I've just given my son a terrible haircut

Yesterday I did DHs. Pretty good job - but his was already pretty short. My DS's hair (age 12) had got really long and messy. Using clippers - started off on the longest setting, did the back. Then the error - went to the front, he moved and I took a chunk out under the fringe really short! Aaargh!!
He now won't let me near it to finish it so he has a lopsided haircut with one side looking Ok, one side unblended into the rest of the hair and a very dodgy fringe with long bits over this short bit! I never should have gone near the fringe with the clippers and used scissors!
I'm hoping the schools are off for a good while yet so it can all grow back Blush

You're not the only one, don't worry! I had a 'how hard can it be?' moment last week after I'd done a surprisingly good job on the dog with clippers. Turns out 13-year-olds are a lot harder than cocker spaniels! It took me three days to put it (sort of) right, and I hope to goodness that his barber reopens before the schools do! Fortunately my disaster was at the back so he didn't see it!

First day of lockdown I woke up to 3 x ds's doing each other's hair with a beard trimmer!
Left them to it..
Just made them promise to leave our husky alone!!

I did DS back and sides on a no 4. Didn't look too bad, I thought - but he was concerned about my ability to blend the top in (quite rightly) so asked me to clip it on a no 4 as well. Of course I said. I'll just go around your ears and neck with a no 2. Well you can guess what happened, I went straight through the top of his head with the no 2 guard on and he had a 2 on top and a 4 around the back and sides Shock Luckily he was nowhere near a mirror and I could pretend I needed to even it up which I did and then when he said it was a bit shorter than he was expecting I said 'well our clippers aren't the same as the ones at the barbers' and he accepted it.

Gave my ds2 a cut yesterday... fine with the no 4 on the clippers up the back and sides but I had a little trouble trying to blend the top.. it's not the worst haircut in the world but it's not great and he is in public as works in Asda!!!

Lol, when my son was 3/4 years old he absolutely hated hairdressers, clippers etc so I used to wait until he was asleep to cut one side of his hair.
Then I’d have to wait until he turned over to do the other side and the back!
The results were always lopsided and “ interesting “ but he never minded.
It was a relief when he was old enough to use clippers himself.
We often get the old photos out and have a chuckle at his 3 year old hairdo 😊

My DS is only 1 but his fringe has been in his eyes for awhile. So I held him and DH cut it - MIL is a hairdresser so I told him it was in his genes. It is not! I was horrified at how much he lopped off, and then I had to do a bit more to even it out. Looks alright now, but I'm not going anywhere near the back. It's long and curly (and beautiful), so until MIL can do it properly he can have it like that. Unless it gets unbearably hot, which it probably will! He won't let me do a ponytail or put a clip in.

So glad that DD and I both have long hair and no fringe, we can tie ours back and it looks fine. I'm desperate to do DH's, he's like a sheep, but I'm not brave enough. As soon as we're allowed to see family I'm sending the boys straight to MIL...

Did DS1's. Two on the sides - fine. Three on top - waaaaay too short. Hopefully it will grow before he goes back to school.

I did ds(16) yesterday too, ordered clippers last week just before they all went out of stock. No 2-3 clippers at the back/side with a poor attempt to graduate up to the top. Top done with scissors. Top isn't too bad, the back is awful and patchy but thankfully he can't see it 🤣

Most of his friends have had an all over nbr 1, 2, or 3 but he was having none of it.

I did take a photo of my initial effort but I sent it to my best friend for reassurance - you know, the one person in the world who's supposed to say 'it doesn't look that bad!' - and she was so openly horrified that I deleted the photo in case DS picked up my phone and saw it!
