I've just given my son a terrible haircut

Yesterday I did DHs. Pretty good job - but his was already pretty short. My DS's hair (age 12) had got really long and messy. Using clippers - started off on the longest setting, did the back. Then the error - went to the front, he moved and I took a chunk out under the fringe really short! Aaargh!!
He now won't let me near it to finish it so he has a lopsided haircut with one side looking Ok, one side unblended into the rest of the hair and a very dodgy fringe with long bits over this short bit! I never should have gone near the fringe with the clippers and used scissors!
I'm hoping the schools are off for a good while yet so it can all grow back Blush

I promised to cut DH’s hair last week but then he remembered about a few upcoming Zoom meetings this week so decided to wait. I did his hair a couple of time ages ago when we were in difficult situation money wise. The very first time I managed half of his head, then looked at him and started crying. I was so upset about the result I couldn’t finish the haircut so he did it himself in front of the mirror. He was very surprised at my reaction and went to work next day absolutely fine.
This time I’m older and wiser so promised not to cry but I’m more confident after today (actually yesterday) knowing that lockdown is extended.

This thread has me proper belly laughing.

Green 🤣🤣🤣

Thanks for the laughs, folks ❤️

DS stupidly let DH cut his hair. It was so bad, he had to just shave him baldy in the end. He looks like he's in the Hitler Youth now, so I'm making him wear a hat when he goes into the garden in case the new neighbours see him. Grin

My neighbour let his daughter do his, let's just say he's glad the lockdown has given it time to grow!Grin

I'm too scared to go near DS hair he can grow it a bit before I chance going near it.

weegiemum · 17/04/2020 07:20

Yep ds (18) usually has a fancy fade but has decided to grow it out rather than let me at it with the clippers. Dh will want me to do it sometime, used to cut his all the time before he discovered hot towel shaved and now has a barber!
Me and the girls have longish hair that can last a while. Dd1 has decided to go blue as she doesn't have to work for a while, I've decided to grow out my roots and see how bad the damage is!

We have DHs best mate isolating with us and with 14 year old and 10 year old DS it was only a matter on time before they got the clippers out.

DS10 came off best although he is blonde, so he looks pretty bald but being 10 it's quite cute.

DS14 looks like he's in the Hitler Youth

And you will be surprised to know learning how to do a skin fade on YouTube is a lot more difficult than DH and his friend thought it would be (despite my warnings🙄)
Theirs is now affectionately known as a "corona-cut" and I think buying a cap now classes as an "essential item" 😑

I did a no 4 on our five year old just before his first day of school in September and he looked awful, just all wrong. He hated it too! I’m now banned from touching him with clippers.

Natsku · 17/04/2020 11:07

I tried to trim my toddler's hair to keep it out of his eyes and now he has the worst fringe in the history of fringes. The rest of his hair is quite long and puffs out at the sides so it looks even more ridiculous, like a 15th century page boy

I just ordered hair clippers so I'll see if I can top that

LittleMissBrainy · 17/04/2020 11:41

If anyone is able, there is a Facebook group called 'we're buzzing for the NHS', asking anyone who has had a home haircut to donate some of the money they would have spent on haircuts to the NHS.

My son just gave his DS a Mohawk - shared the entire process on Instagram ! This lockdown is giving us a lot of funny memories Grin

CigarsofthePharoahs · 19/04/2020 08:37

Well ds1 has decided that as lockdown has been extended he wants me to dye his hair blue. I promised I'd do it for the summer holidays if he was good at school. I put a mild lightener on it yesterday and it's made no difference so he won't be very blue.
DH has always cut his own hair, but that's because he has hardly any.

x2boys · 19/04/2020 09:09

Cigars what,s your sons natural hair colour ? I dyed my ds1 hair blue a few years ago in the summer holidays when he was a fan of Dan TDM his hair is dark brown so it didn't really take at all apparently it would have been much better if I had bleached it first but I felt that was too extreme

CigarsofthePharoahs · 19/04/2020 19:54

@x2boys his hair is dark brown. I haven't used the strong lightener, I wouldn't trust myself not to give him a chemical burn! I bought a spray in product that's sun and heat activated. I've applied it twice today and his hair is noticeably lighter now.
He also wants hair like DanTDM and I also had the same problem last summer. His hair had a blue tint to it, but five minutes in the sea later it had all gone!

Wotrewelookinat · 19/04/2020 20:11

Thinning scissors are a game-changer for blending short hairstyles after using clippers. I’ve done myself, DH, and DD aged 14. Got the scissors from ebay, watched a couple of YouTube videos and went for it! Pretty pleased with the results. The dog’s next...!

x2boys · 19/04/2020 20:31

Lol.Cigars thankfully ds1 has now grown out of the DanTDM faze 😂
