How are your supermarkets looking at the moment?

Things had been a bit more normal here for the last couple of weeks but DH has just been to Asda and came back commenting that it looked like people had been in clearing the shelves again!

He couldn't get:
Hand soap (not that much of a surprise, that's always been scarce)
Washing up liquid
Bananas
Bell peppers
Courgettes
Broccolli or cauliflower
Chicken thighs
Lamb mince, fresh or frozen
Pizza, fresh or frozen
Semi skimmed milk (any brand or size)
Flour (again not too surprising)

and got the last box of Felix cat food!

Oh and baking potatoes but they're always a bit hit and miss to be fair.

I've just been to Tesco no flour barely any pasta and no kitchen roll! Fortunately the wine aisle was pretty full!

Troels · 15/04/2020 16:08

Went to
Aldi, two min wait to get in, couldn't get dry cat food
Asda, walked straight in, no line, couldn't get store brand brown sauce (it's gluten free so I can eat that)
Home Bargains, walked right in, couldn't get sketch books for Dd art class for high school
Iceland, walked right in, no whole green beans, 100% beef beef burgers or mini milk lollies.
Shopping all done as good as it gets.
Tomorrow is prescriptions for the month.

Not too hideous - I have found that Fridays and weekends are busy. They have a queue that is about - hmm 100m - anyway I had to wait 30 mins last time I went, but if I pick a 'good time' it's about ten mins.

Once in its a free of all and you are only supposed to go in one person per household. We did this (I waited outside) and DH reported back that people were pretending to be separate then regrouping once inside (and taking selfies in front of the shelves). People are getting too bloody close too - as if the magic supermarket environment makes the 2m rule invalid.

Random things seem to disappear from the shelves - last time I went there were no lemons or courgettes. Still no flour but there were eggs (thank goodness because we go through a lot of them). Skimmed milk is hit and miss. Cleaning items are scarce, no Zoflora!

I bought some plants to cheer up the balcony and scurried home in case I got stopped by the police/vigilantes for buying non-essentials.

There was an elderly chap merrily doing his shopping with a wheely walking frame and basket on the top - a bottle of whisky, 6 pack of beer, box of biscuits and a while roast chicken.

daisypond · 15/04/2020 16:13

Still no pasta or flour.

Tonz · 15/04/2020 16:14

The store I work in is not too bad but struggling for pasta and tins and eggs but otherwise we'll stocked

CuriousaboutSamphire · 15/04/2020 16:16

Local large town has enormous queues

Local small City has smaller queues and the shelves are well stocked except for flour, tins of beans, lots of baked beans. Some pasta and almost everything else is fine.

Local farm shop gets flour in, direct from the mill, if you are a long term customer with a loyalty card, but you go on a list.

Lordfrontpaw · 15/04/2020 16:17

Have you got protective clothing? Our local store have given the staff visors and gloves now.

x2boys · 15/04/2020 17:07

Not bad actually I even got hand gel this morning Shock

Likethebattle · 15/04/2020 17:13

Haven’t set foot in one for three weeks so not sure.

PhoneLock · 15/04/2020 17:15

I must be lucky because I haven't had a problem getting anything... even flour. I haven't tried getting eggs as we get them direct from the farm The hens haven't stopped laying.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 15/04/2020 17:17

Icing sugar is short everywhere.

Pavlova31 · 15/04/2020 17:19

The local Co Op and Tesco stores had no pasta, flour or long life milk yesterday also quite limited in tinned vegetables or tinned meat.

Mooserp · 15/04/2020 17:21

Flour and yeast are the only things I haven't seen.

justanotherneighinparadise · 15/04/2020 17:23

No broccoli, no cauliflower, no eggs, no flour in my local Tesco.

Juanmorebeer · 15/04/2020 17:23

I've struggled to get eggs, flour, hand-wash or pasta but apparently that's everywhere

nevernotstruggling · 15/04/2020 17:25

Plymouth outskirts. Lidl has a queue but in store everything. Even calpol

justasking111 · 15/04/2020 17:27

Hit and miss for different things wherever we go. It is strange to see gaps in shelves, I wonder if people see little stock of an item and grab the last of it just in case. Baked beans, loo roll were in today, no flour, plenty of wine that was bare last time I went. Veg. is deffo. down our friendly wholesaler said that is the case everywhere.

Monday afternoon Tesco was very quiet, Tuesday afternoon apparently a zoo. There is no discernable pattern.

fitflopqueen · 15/04/2020 17:28

i've not seen any soap since before lockdown, there must have been some really dirty buggers before Corona.

Tonz · 15/04/2020 17:29

No we don't have any protective clothing at all

ShanghaiDiva · 15/04/2020 17:29

Went to Lidl today: no flour, very few eggs, veg was a bit limited
They had: liquid soap, pasta, loo roll
Visited at 2pm ish and no queue.

Tiuriwiththewhiteshield · 15/04/2020 17:29

Quite well stocked was our Sainsbury’s this morning - no lasagna sheets (but they did have other pastas), no flour. I’ve been looking for weeks now for red lentils and a dish brush but still not managed them this morning..all other items were fine, queue was manageable and people kept their distance 👍

chickedeee · 15/04/2020 17:32

M & S were excellent on Monday but expensive Sad

Easter eggs were on half price Grin

AtleastitsnotMonday · 15/04/2020 17:34

troels how can it be essential to go to 4 different stores?

Tiuriwiththewhiteshield · 15/04/2020 17:36

Yes - loads of Easter Eggs half price at Sainsbury’s 😄
