How would you spell the name Laurie for a girl?

Laurie?
Lori?
Any other suggestions?

I really love the name but DH and I can’t agree on the spelling. He thinks Lori but to me that looks like it should be pronounced Low-rie. I prefer Laurie but wonder if this is a more masculine spelling (eg in years to come will they think she is a man if they get an email from her?).

Any thoughts?

I think Laurie is male because of Little Women and Lori is female because of The Walking Dead.

Lori

BuffaloCauliflower · 12/04/2020 23:21

It’s Lori. Nice name, I’ve only ever met one

I know both, both females. I think it's a lovely name but I'm probably drawn to Lori as it seems younger/on trend/funky which of course can work not in favour too. Sorry not much help

I know a few male Lauries (Scotland), but would still spell it that way for a girl. Lori looks so American, and not like a 'proper' name. It looks like it's short for something.

starrynight19 · 12/04/2020 23:27

My niece is called Lauris , a lovely name and she is 23 . Never heard of it ever and I work in an educational setting

iMoan7 · 12/04/2020 23:28

I’m in Scotland too Dieu and I too know a few male Lauries (I absolutely love the name for a boy as well but DH not so keen). I share your views on the Lori spelling but I don’t think I would ultimately not choose the name because of this issue 🤔

Laurie is fine for a girl, I think. I much prefer it to Lori.

dementedpixie · 12/04/2020 23:31

I think Laurie is nicer and perfectly suitable for a girl

Gooseysgirl · 12/04/2020 23:33

My American has this name and spells it Lauree.

Gooseysgirl · 12/04/2020 23:34

*American female cousin

Moonmelodies · 12/04/2020 23:35

Lorry.

jackstini · 12/04/2020 23:37

The only male one I know is spelt Lawrie

I would pronounce Lori like 'lorry' but Laurie like lorey

Geraniumblue · 12/04/2020 23:38

There’s a few American female Lauries. I think it’s a lovely name for a girl or a boy.

DariaMorgendorffer · 12/04/2020 23:38

Laurie

Grandmi · 12/04/2020 23:39

My son is called Laurence...shortened to Laurie...I would spell a girls name to Lori.

iMoan7 · 12/04/2020 23:40

I love Laurence 😭 I so wish DH liked it!

OP posts:
Geraniumblue · 12/04/2020 23:41

What about Lauren? Would that do?

WillYouDoTheFandango · 12/04/2020 23:42

I know two, one of each of your spellings. Both American. I prefer Laurie.

WhenItIsOver · 12/04/2020 23:47

Not Laurie, it is short for Laurence, Lawrie short for Lawrence.

Lauris is unusual but is a place in France.

I knew a male called Loris, no idea if he was named after the Slow Loris Grin.

Lori seems to be the norm for a girl, otherwise Laura, Laurel, Lara...

SouthWestmom · 12/04/2020 23:47

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laurie(givenn_name)

Wiki says it's unisex as Laurie and fives male/female examples

TeddyBeans · 12/04/2020 23:48

I didn't realise there was another way to spell it. Lori looks odd IMO - Laurie for me!

Kpo58 · 12/04/2020 23:54

Definitely Laurie.

ExclamationPerfume · 12/04/2020 23:58

I worked with a Lorrie.

VivaLeBeaver · 13/04/2020 00:01

Lorri
