Apparently he has died from Covid-19

I don't really remember him from The Goodies but I did like him on I'm sorry I haven't a clue.

OP posts:
Mummyoflittledragon · 12/04/2020 15:23

Oh no! Sad I loved the goodies!

Doyoumind · 12/04/2020 15:26

I feel very sad about this. I suppose because he was part of my childhood and seemed like such a nice guy.

Binterested · 12/04/2020 15:30

Loved Tim and the Goodies 😰. The kitten on the Post Office Tower SmileSad

Lordfrontpaw · 12/04/2020 15:31

Stirling Moss too.

bettybattenburg · 12/04/2020 15:31

rip Timbrook Taylor..that's how I always heard his name too.

ellanwood · 12/04/2020 15:31

So sad. I love ISIHAC, especially when he sings! He will be very missed.

SuckingDieselFella · 12/04/2020 15:32

Very sad news.

Why doesn't someone start a petition to the BBC? It would be good if they showed an episode of The Goodies as a tribute. They've always refused to show repeats because it isn't politically correct.

HermioneWeasley · 12/04/2020 15:32

The Goodies was the earliest alternative comedy I saw. I’m really upset to hear the news

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 12/04/2020 15:32

So many happy memories of TBT. RIP.

ChrisAndJonty · 12/04/2020 15:43

This is so sad. I absolutely loved the Goodies during the 70s.

The giant kitten
The send up of Rock Follies (The Little Laddies)
Celtic Kiltie
The shoot out at the OK Coral as to whether the word was pronounced "sconn" or "scone".

They also had several chart hits (I don't know how high they charted but I used to hear them lots on the radio back then)

Funky Gibbon
Too Old to be a teenage heartthrob (or something like that)
Father Christmas Do Not Touch Me (As she stood beneath the mistletoe-ow-ow)
Black Pudding Bertha

RIP Tim

dontcallmelen · 12/04/2020 16:24

RIP Tim, the goodies were part of my childhood fond memories of watching them with my DF, yy loved the lunacy & sheer silliness.

ErrolTheDragon · 12/04/2020 16:33

I thought his name was, Timbrook Taylor.

Isn't that how everyone says it?

RIP Tim. I lover The Goodies as a kid, and ISIHAC latterly. No one will ever play the Swanee whistle like that again.

Thighdentitycrisis · 12/04/2020 16:33

Sorry to hear this
Agree that his singing on ISIHAC was brilliant

MrAlyhakinsMassiveYacht · 12/04/2020 16:52

Such a shame.

ravenmum · 12/04/2020 16:54

Another Timbrook fan here.

mencken · 12/04/2020 16:56

everyone of a certain age now has a funky gibbon earworm. And all the other classic Goodies moments. Eckythump, anyone?

RIP 'Timbo'. A good age but still a very sad day.

And Sir Stirling too - 'who do you think you are, Stirling Moss?'

JudyCoolibar · 12/04/2020 16:59

I’m really sad about this. My memories go right back to listening to “I’m Sorry I’ll Read That Again” on a radio illicitly smuggled into boarding school, and I can still hear him doing Lady Constance in my head. I also loved his gentle humour in ISIHAC. He’ll be much missed.

JudyCoolibar · 12/04/2020 17:02

My earworm is the Angus Prune tune from ISIRTA.

Sodding Coronavirus.

wowfudge · 12/04/2020 17:17

What the hell isn't politically correct about a kitten toppling the GPO/BT tower?

ErrolTheDragon · 12/04/2020 17:25

What the hell isn't politically correct about a kitten toppling the GPO/BT tower?

Or dinosaur-like diggers?

I think it was the apart-height one , somehow someone missed that it was satire.Confused

MrFaceyRomford · 12/04/2020 17:31

Farewell Lady Constance. You'll be missed.

Did somebody call?

TheDogsMother · 12/04/2020 17:31

RIP Tim and thank you for all the laughs. Such a witty man and seemed really lovely too.

MrFaceyRomford · 12/04/2020 17:32

Ah! The Angus Prune Tune!

Great name BTW Julie.

SuckingDieselFella · 12/04/2020 17:36

@ErrolTheDragon

I'd never heard of that but it has its own wiki entry! Definitely satire, unless you're stupid or the BBC.

IDefinitelyHaveFriends · 12/04/2020 17:39

So sad: I’ve been listening to him on Sorry I’ll Read That Again/Haven’t a Clue my whole life.

We have the Goodies DVDs. Kitten Kong is still brilliant, but the problems are
A) teethgratingly awful canned laughter (Kitten Kong is available without it, but the others aren’t). It’s honestly painful to watch.
B) a whole bunch of really cheap “he’s a homosexual isn’t it hilarious” jokes which are peppered all the way through.
C) the odd dated racial joke (not exactly racist, but “of its time”).

The problem is that because the episodes had half hour plots you can’t edit the dodgy/unfunny bits out and just show the good bits like Monty Python. And because the target audience was family viewing it’s less easy to put up a disclaimer of “this programme reflects the language and attitudes of its time” at the front and leave the viewers to it - that only really works for adult viewers.
