Why is horse riding/dressage acceptable, but Circus animals aren't? not

I was just wondering why we celebrate horse riding and even have performing horses in the Olympics. But to go to an animal circus is frowned upon?

Just to be clear, I don't think there should be horse racing or performance animals in the Olympics!

Am I missing something?

Meant to add, my purpose of training her to this level? Apart from the fact that I enjoy it and I want to make her the best all round horse I can so if something should happen and I can’t keep her, she would be useful and easily sold to a good home, it’s good for her. It makes her strong, supple and well muscled. Think of it as a person going to the gym.
