Anyone else loosing weight because of lockdown with kids?

To start with I could do loosing a few pounds so I'm not starving by any means.

I have four kids who normally eat at school and now they are at home obviously we are getting through more food.

The cheaper brands I normally buy arent available plus I'm.trying to not go out to buy food unless I'm desperate. I haven't been to a shop for ten days.

I have lost 4lbs in those ten days as I'm skipping one meal a day and eating so much less too. I just want the food to last for the kids so I'm not constantly having to venture out. I'm hoping I dont need to food shop more than once a fortnight.

Also I scared of comments about buying food for 6 people and stockpiling. Also that you still cant buy more than three of anything. 3 lots of 500g mince is nearly three meals for 6 especially if you cant buy pasta or tinned tomatoes.

How sustainable is loosing 4lbs a week? Is it ok as long as I'm still overweight? I have a good buffer before I get to a healthy range BMI!

Maybe this is good way to loose the excess weight?

Me! I've lost 7lb so far since the lockdown. A combination of running around after a toddler and a baby, eating home cooked food only, and not drinking wine or beer (because any more than half a glass gives me a headache these days and i can't cope with the kids and a headache!) I also dont seem to have time to snack!

I have a stone and a half still to go to get to my goal weight, so I can definitely afford to lose it!

Chiyo666 · 02/04/2020 15:32

No we’re just sat around getting fat. My kids are going back to school fat and thick.

Thelnebriati · 02/04/2020 15:41

Half a stone so far and I'm wearing my old size 14 jeans today Shock
I used to exercise every day so I'm worried I'm losing muscle instead of fat.

Me! Lost 2.5 stone in 2 months since giving birth and now lost all the baby weight and continuing to lose 1-2 kgs a week I think through exclusive breastfeeding + home cooked meals + 40 mins running around woods behind house with dog every morning

Womenwotlunch · 02/04/2020 15:51

I have put weight on. However, have been much stricter this week and have managed to work out everyday .

UpToonGirl · 02/04/2020 15:51

God no, I'm too scared to get on the scales! I have been eating way too many snacks and hardly exercising.

buckeejit · 02/04/2020 15:55

No. I'm really fat to start with & still not loosing any weight but drinking a lot more alcohol

That sucks about not being able to buy enough food though. I think we should all be thinking of a little rationing. I've started telling my dc they can't have everything they want. I too don't want to go to shops if possible

OatcakeCravings · 02/04/2020 15:57

Dear god no! I wish, I daren’t get on the scales! I’ve seem to have been mainlining wine and KitKats!

Doingtheboxerbeat · 02/04/2020 16:55

On what planet is anyone losing weight?

Whoareyoudududu · 02/04/2020 16:57

No, I’m gaining...

FlyingPandas · 02/04/2020 17:01

The weight thing is neither here nor there, OP.

Go shopping and get some food.

It is not a competition to see who can last the longest before going to the shops. Being sensible is not about being a martyr. If you need to go to the shops every three to four days because you have a large family, then go to the shops every three to four days.

LER83 · 02/04/2020 17:57

I really wish I was! I'm eating way more then normal! Not to mention all the cakes from all the baking! Normally it's just me at home during the day so don't really bother with lunch, but now dh is at home he is making proper big lunches, then massive dinners! And normally I walk everywhere which I'm obviously not doing at the mo! There is 5 of us and we go to the shop about 2 or 3 times a week.

DelurkingAJ · 02/04/2020 18:01

I am. I snack at work when I need a break and buy meal deals that I finish out of habit. Not lost a lot but a kg or so over two weeks (in the upper third of healthy weight for my height so a couple of kgs won’t hurt).

SummerHouse · 02/04/2020 18:07

I am loosing. It's the Joe Wicks / high stress diet which incorporates a lifestyle change of working from home from 8 am till 9 pm whilst intermittently setting activities for disinterested children and waiting for WiFi.

CoronaIsShit · 02/04/2020 18:15

Nope. I’ve lost 4 stone over the last year and have put back 4lb in the last 2 weeks Angry. I was going to the gym 6 times a week burning around 1000 calories a time, had a great routine and was still eating very well but very clean.

I’m now eating terribly due to stress, joining the 4DC in snacking and a daily 45 minute brisk walk (can’t run due to pelvic floor being fked) is not cutting it!

middleager · 02/04/2020 18:19

Yes, stress, worry and cutting back means Ive lost nearly a stone, but I have been stressing since start Feb!

NemophilistRebel · 02/04/2020 18:21

Losing a bit of weight as initially I felt too stressed to eat

Then I found myself so busy I lost track of time (at home with kids but also working)

And then we were running low on food, couldn’t get deliveries and I’m meant to be isolating so didn’t want to go to shop until entirely necessary

We now have food and I’m less busy so guess I probably won’t lose any more

I’m due a baby in a few weeks so really shouldn’t be losing weight too

HoneysuckIejasmine · 02/04/2020 18:22

Yep. There's nothing like worrying about your children going hungry to really help lose weight. However, I am mid diet anyway (6 stone down, 2 to go) and I am in a high risk group so weren't all self isolating. We've got food in but I'm worried how long it'll last as after this week we can't get deliveries. Doesn't help that yesterday Morrisons failed to deliver about half my order. Stressing about the next one now, whilst feeling guilty because at least I have one booked.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 02/04/2020 18:23

*we're all self isolating

Morgan12 · 02/04/2020 18:28

Quite the opposite.

Doesn't help that 3pm has now became 'cake time'.

MakeyCakeyHeart · 02/04/2020 18:31

Losing here too, thats a good thing in a way.
Stressed, not got the huge amount of food in as usual and wanting to make it last and yes also Joe Wicks!

DinosApple · 02/04/2020 18:34

Before all this I was eating a small lunch and normal dinner. Losing weight gradually for a weekend away to Rome booked for May.

Now I'm eating the same, but not moving anywhere near as much. I've also baked...

Dontjumptoconclusions · 02/04/2020 18:45

The problem with doing a big shop is that I just eat it all in the same amount of time I would do a smaller shop.

If there was a food shortage, I'm definitely prepared for it Grin

Itwasntme1 · 02/04/2020 18:49

Definitely losing a bit of weight. I don’t want to binge eat and deplete the food stock😊.

I am also no longer having Starbucks carrot cake for breakfast, ham and cheese croissant for lunch and jelly snakes to snack on all day at the office!

I don’t put too many snacks in the weekly shop, and can’t nip out to marks and Spencer’s for a yummy cream cake.

Pre lock down me was a pig.

Redcrayons · 02/04/2020 18:56

I wish.

The shops are much better stocked than 10 days ago, you’ll find almost everything you need. And the social distancing measures in all the supermarkets it’s relatively low risk.
