Are my dc the only ones who still love the Wii?

Ok I know they aren't because we don't actually have a console currently - dd1 plays at friend A's, dd2 plays at friend B's and C's. They never talk about or play on other consoles! And I mean old school Wii, not Switch or U. We got one when they were popular, used it on and off (not that much really) until it broke. Then after a bit bought one and then another secondhand for £30 off eBay, now both also broken. Yesterday Dd2 begged me to buy another! Is this just nostalgia? Is it quaint that at least three families we know are still using this decade old tech?

My teens still use ours sometimes, they like the Mario games.

qwertyuiop100 · 30/03/2020 08:26

My, now adult DC, are both at home now and we had family Just Dance battle yesterday. I almost got rid of it when they went off to uni, but glad I kept it now. Bowling later!

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 30/03/2020 08:28

My lot like a couple of games on it that you can't get anywhere else, ours is actually the U (and that screen controller is bulletproof - survived 2 toddlers and tiled floors for years!)

I miss Disney infinity (eldest spent hours playing that.. I'm quite fond of it)

IndecentFeminist · 30/03/2020 08:29

We have a Wii fit at my parents' house, had wondered about collecting it.

Lolly86 · 30/03/2020 08:29

We still use it with DD6 it was great when DSSs were younger and were over now they 15 and 20. DD loves the wii fit, dance, sing and sport games. I enjoy them all still.plus MarioGrin

SylvanianFrenemies · 30/03/2020 08:31

No, my kids love it too - especially the sports games.

Trimalata · 30/03/2020 08:32

I actually tried to buy one off eBay a few weeks ago because we cant afford a Switch. Apparently everyone else had the same idea because the prices were rocketing up!

MollyMossy · 30/03/2020 08:34

We all love ours still - specially wii party, wii fit and mario kart. It's a great way for the whole family to play together!

Bridecilla · 30/03/2020 08:34

We've been playing Mario daily since we started isolation. Great fun - we hook up and battle against friends online too!

Parker231 · 30/03/2020 08:35

DT’s had a Wii tennis competition yesterday and they are 20. The match is continuing today and then I’m playing the winner.

Corneliusmurphy · 30/03/2020 08:35

That’s funny, dp retrieved ours from the loft this weekend and the dc have spent the weekend playing Mario as a three player. Not sure I’ve enough batteries for the wii fit but I might have to investigate...

gigglingHyena · 30/03/2020 10:40

Ours still gets used, like anything they'll ignore it for ages then have a sudden rediscovery. Dd and her friends have had many an after school Mario kart tournament. We dug out the Wii fit board over the weekend.

Mind you, we still bring out the game cube games as well.

Thighmageddon · 30/03/2020 10:45

Oh I have a wii for board thing somewhere that I'd comp,Evelyn forgotten about until I read these comments. I'm going to have to find it forthwith Grin

Thighmageddon · 30/03/2020 10:46

Completely not comp,Evelyn

ScrapThatThen · 30/03/2020 10:52

All this love for the Wii 😁

I miss ours! It was really on its way out after ten solid years of use. We have a PS4 and a switch now but still miss the Wii!

My favourite games were Wii party, smooth moves, Wii fit/plus, big brain academy and my absolute favourite was rhythm paradise

YDYtrue · 30/03/2020 11:15

My children have spent hours playing mario kart and wii party over the past couple of weeks 😀

I love that it gets them playing together rather than one playing sims/fifa on the PS4 and the other moaning that it’s boring.

And the 4 year old can manage the wii too

skippy67 · 30/03/2020 12:02

I love my Wii! Does anyone know how to connect it to a smart TV though?

How are yours broken so often? Confused We’ve had the same one since a week after they came out in 2006 and it’s still running perfectly.

NoClarification · 30/03/2020 12:35

We bought the kids one a few weeks ago off eBay, they have been playing with it non-stop! Fantastically retro.

bookmum08 · 30/03/2020 12:54

We love ours. 20 quid from the charity shop. Family member gave us a bunch of games for free. You can buy the games for stupidly cheap prices secondhand (like 50p) - obviously not at the moment. We have upgraded to a Switch but only have four games because they are expensive. My favourite on the Wii is Mario Kart. I always play as Toad because he is cute. We get a lot of use from the old Nintendo DS too.

QueenArseClangers · 30/03/2020 12:55

Wii fans here too! I think it’s a great accessible system and often involves the whole family.

One of my DC has taught himself the Wii Mii theme tune on the piano Grin

Sports Resort and Mario and Sonic Winter Olympic Games (or Winterlimpic as it’s become known in our house) are the go to games.

Hippywannabe · 30/03/2020 13:00

We did wii tennis the other day. Just dh and I at home

ExpletiveDelighted · 30/03/2020 13:05

DS still in regular use here too
