This has got to be one of the best TV programmes I have ever seen. How on earth did I miss it the first time round? if you want to watch the most gorgeous light-hearted gentle comedy, go on the BBC iPlayer where you will find all 3 Series Smile Sheila's lemonade! Grin

Seems that my laptop is very much alive,tho...Shock

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 23/03/2020 08:32

Watched it all first time, but time to revisit, I think!

One of the most delightful series ever.

She only plays a minor character, but I always love Sophie Thompson in anything - IMO in the acting dept. she knocks spots off her sister Emma.

Love what we do in the shadows. So funny. Ghosts is brilliant and as an archaeologist I love detectorists (of course).

I also love witless on bbc3.

Yes sophie thompson is amazing. I think definitely the better actress.

goldpartyhat · 23/03/2020 08:36

Loved it. The title song is a beautiful bonus.

SandyFire · 23/03/2020 08:39

It’s amazing. If any of you have Spotify or similar then check out Johnny Flynn’s other music. He’s an incredible musician and writes loads of beautiful songs.

Cheesecake53 · 23/03/2020 08:43

It is one of my all time favourite shows!

Katinski · 23/03/2020 08:53

mog thanks for the Ghosts recommendationSmile
As well as the tv programmes already mentioned, the radio's good too.
Cabin Pressure, anyone?

BoreOfWhabylon · 23/03/2020 09:02

My very favourite scene

Tulipstulips · 23/03/2020 09:03

It’s an antidote to the news, that’s for sure. May have to rewatch.

JoyceDivision · 23/03/2020 09:07

Yes, love Detectorisys and Johnny Flynn's music is brilliant, think DH and I might have to binge watch this week on an evening after work. I would love DC's to get into it!

SurpriseSparDay · 23/03/2020 09:14

It is utterly brilliant.

I started a thread a while ago suggesting Mackenzie Crook as next Dr Who show runner, and Toby Jones as the Dr. Clearly no crossover audience (except me) as there were no takers.

Keep replaying in my mind the moment when Lance’s ex says good morning on her way to the bathroom. Astonishing.

I started watching This Country at around the same time. It’s great but I’m never going to love the characters as much as the Detectorists.

BoreOfWhabylon · 23/03/2020 09:17

I think your Dr Who idea is great, SurpriseSparDay!

ThisIsMeOrIsIt · 23/03/2020 09:20

DH and I had the theme music at our wedding! Happy memories whenever I hear it Smile

Badabingbadabum · 23/03/2020 09:23

Thank you for reminding me about it and that I should definitely settle down for another watch!

SurpriseSparDay · 23/03/2020 09:41

Thank you, Bore!

Concept adumbrated with flawless brilliance here:

You’re welcome!

You must be local to me Scruffyoak :-) my mum’s exercise class got hoofed from the church hall for filming, she was most put out.

TotorosFurryBehind · 23/03/2020 11:14

We love it. We play the theme tune every night as part of dds nighttime routine, whilst getting her ready for bed 😃

The bit where the camera pans out as they walk over the ship sends a shiver down my spine. It's such a gentle, humourous programme, but underpinned by a deep reverence for history.

TotorosFurryBehind · 23/03/2020 11:23

I love the way the main characters are not treasure hunters, but are seeking a connection with the past.

It reminds me of the feeling I get when standing in those caves in France with then thousand year old drawings of animals. A sense of the passing of time and all those who have gone before us.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 23/03/2020 13:00

@BoreOfWhabylon
Fantastic Thank you... Thats the next few days sorted

Scruffyoak · 23/03/2020 13:56

Yes, we live in the suffolk coastal area :)

spiderlight · 23/03/2020 14:17

Detectorists is just sublime. Absolutely love it.

Mackenzie Crook was also fabulous as Wurzel Gummidge in the Christmas specials last year, which had a similar feel to them.

BurneyFanny · 23/03/2020 15:27

We are not far from the castle on the hill :-)

Scruffyoak · 23/03/2020 17:26

We live near the other castle in the area :-)

Tulipstulips · 23/03/2020 19:03
