Anyone shocked to see how young all the important people are?

I'm usually fairly well informed on current affairs but I get most of my information from written word or radio. I know the name of the Educatiom Secretary, for example but I wouldn't recognise him.

Since I've been watching the briefings, I've been somewhat distressed to realise just how young some of these people in very responsible places are.

I know it's my age, but anyone else?

Such as.....?

DoubleAction · 19/03/2020 17:53

All of them, the Chancellor, Education Minister, Minister for Health, they all look like children to me Grin

You must be getting very old then Grin

willowpatterns · 19/03/2020 17:56

The older I get, the younger everybody else looks...

GrumpyHoonMain · 19/03/2020 18:02

This is a young cabinet - most are in their late thirties to early fifties. I think prime ministers (or shadow prime ministers) tend to recruit people younger than them.

PawPawNoodle · 19/03/2020 18:04

Rishi Sunak is actually 63, he just uses a very good moisturiser.

GrumpyHoonMain · 19/03/2020 18:08

Sunak is there, at 39 and with the kind of experience most investment bankers have, because he’s the son in law of the founder of Infosys. His wife’s family will have the Indian government’s ear when it comes to trade negotiations.

LapsedVeganAcademic · 19/03/2020 19:37

Oh yes. At a hospital appointment a few weeks back, the doctor didn't look to me old enough to have sat his GCSE!

midsomermurderess · 19/03/2020 19:45

If you're good enough, you're old enough.

AdoptedBumpkin · 19/03/2020 19:46

To be fair, Chris Witty and Patrick Vallance (not politicians I realise) do not look young. Boris is 55 which may be young to some people but not in the grand scheme of things.

It is a younger than usual cabinet but that is partly because a lot of older Tory backbenchers wouldn't be up to or wouldn't fancy the cabinet positions.

OldLace · 19/03/2020 19:53

PolPotNoodle you had me there, (Sunak aged 63), you bugger!

ChelseaCat · 19/03/2020 19:59

Distressed?? Really?! 🙄

DoubleAction · 19/03/2020 20:02

Yes really ChelseacatHmm

rslsys · 19/03/2020 20:24

They'll all look a hell of a lot older by Christmas . .

AnyFucker · 19/03/2020 20:37

Yes, they will age rapidly Sad

SueEllenMishke · 19/03/2020 20:42

Why are you distressed? Have any of them given you reason to believe their age is preventing them from doing their job?
You sound really patronising tbh

BackforGood · 19/03/2020 21:15

You're not wrong OP Wink

Nor are you @rslsys Grin

Vintagehearts · 19/03/2020 21:20

The minister of health looks like a child to you? Hmm Really?

DoubleAction · 19/03/2020 21:22

Did anyone really think this was intended to be serious?

They do all look really young to me but as I said, I realise that is because of my age. The policemen get younger every year thing.

CheriLittlebottom · 19/03/2020 21:23

I'm only 36 OP, and I think a lot of them look disturbingly young these days!!

helpfulperson · 19/03/2020 21:39

I remember reading a blog post from someone (can't remember who but think it might have David Beckham) who talked about sitting at a formal dinner next to a bloke who looked about 30 and introduced himself as the President of Brazil.

I think you are just getting old I'm afraid.

dillite · 19/03/2020 22:18

Boris is only 55?!?!?!?! On what planet? No bloody way he's that young. He looks 65 at least.

AnneLovesGilbert · 19/03/2020 22:23

Hancock is still looking pretty youthful and perky. Whitty is 53 and looks about that. I don’t think that’s young to be in his role, his experience is exceptional.

I do find myself wondering how they’re all sleeping. I was feeling pretty stressed last night and couldn’t switch off for hours and hardly anyone is relying on me for anything!

LangSpartacusCleg · 19/03/2020 22:32

If it is any consolation, they will all have aged by at least twice the normal rate by the time they leave government.

MrsT1405 · 19/03/2020 22:58

My current gp (spanish) is 12, I'm sure! Hes so cute and keeps trying to grow a beard..no chance.
