Adapting to WFH long term - show me your desks!

I’ve been working at the kitchen table.
The chair is definitely not suitable for sitting on all day. I don’t think I’ll be back in work for the foreseeable so looking online at desks and chairs. Has anyone bought anything nice lately? I saw one on Made but it’s estimating 4 weeks.

I'm another whom works from bed. I'm like a 46 year old teenager Grin

Blibbyblobby · 19/03/2020 20:11

I used to use a yoga ball back I was a CS student pulling all night coding sessions. It turns out with a bit of motivation you can still slouch on them Grin

Mine's on our landing which wasn't a problem til the schools closed

My pc is actually a laptop but I got a universal USB docking station so the ethernet, mouse, keyboard and dual monitors attach there. Then if I need to go mobile I only have one cable to unplug from the laptop.

I also repurposed an old iphone 4s as a webcam, much better quality than the laptop camera and means I can shut the laptop entirely when working on the docking station. And it sort of justifies having held on to the old phone for so long...see DH, I knew it would come in handy!

Valkadin · 19/03/2020 23:10

DH sat at his desk he has pinched my laptop so is currently looking Like Jack Bauer in 24 with three screens.

Hotwaterbottlelove · 20/03/2020 06:02

I recommend a back buddy from Amazon if you can't buy a decent chair. They are shapped memory foam pillows you sit on on top of any chair and they have taken all my pains away

Biancadelrioisback · 20/03/2020 06:27

I'm going into the office today to grab my chair and bring it home. I cannot cope on my dining room chairs much longer

Bluesheep8 · 20/03/2020 06:43

Kitchen table and laptop for me.

hokolo · 20/03/2020 06:53

I work from home. I have a standing/walking desk and a £20 saddle stool sort of like this No chair. Chairs are death.

Sniv · 20/03/2020 07:19

I'm surprised that the 'yoga ball as an office chair' thing still lives on. For most people it doesn't promote great posture anyway, and the ball will position you too low for most desks and fuck your arms/shoulders as you try and type.

AlCalavicci · 20/03/2020 13:24

I have a proper desk ( with a hulking printer on it ) but a dinning chair with no padding I have a square arse

peachypetite · 23/03/2020 22:22

Managed to get a navy one from Ikea. Website has been awful I guess due to so much demand.

I was wfh already and we do have a space for "office". I used to do a lot of hotdesking and I'm now a stickler for raising my laptop - a nice Emma Bridgewater cake tin is good. You can get mouse and keyboard cheaply from Argos etc and soltions to avoid running out of usb ports. Now if i see one of my team on Skype/Teams with the camera looking up their nose I call them out.

Secondhand office chairs are pretty cheap, a lot of those places are still open too. I'm not messing up my back as well as everthing else.

I got a fake wood one with gloss doors/drawer from Wayfair. Love it. I had to remove the drawer to fit a proper office chair but that's ok.

QuinoaAvo · 20/03/2021 21:43

I also have standing desk on top of the desk as some days I really hate sitting down.

I got an electric sit stand desk and the chair above Bout 10 years ago from these guys as I've mainly worked from home since then and I had to save my back! Most expensive furniture in the house bit truly worthwhile of its a long term situation and you pull long stints at the screen.

lightlypoached · 20/03/2021 23:17

Got a standing desk. It sits on top of the ordinary desk. And I have a stool that is like a toadstool. Absolutely wonderful. No back issues, energy much higher, legs stronger. Much, much better than sitting.

This is the stool https://shop.officeneedsdirect.co.uk/Sitall+Deluxe+Visitor+Stool+Mandarin+Fabric+Seat/pi/BR000213-3216735-1.html
