Dowser · 17/03/2020 15:44

Can we form a little huddle please?

In fact it would be lovely to speak to any mnetters on lockdown in Tenerife or other Canary Islands.
So many people have left our apartment block, Norwegians and Danes gone, Swedes following shortly.
I’m starting to feel like me and dh are the last brits left.

Support group needed 🙏
Staying strong.

Are you on holiday waiting to come back to the UK?

Dowser · 17/03/2020 17:01

No one?

My ILs are there but not planning to come home. I think it's mad but they still have two weeks left of their holiday???

Starisnotanumber · 17/03/2020 20:03

Might not be any mumsnetters but on facebook site i love tenerife there's a number of people in same situation. Maybe worth a look good luck we should be there next week but obviously not now

Starisnotanumber · 17/03/2020 20:34

There's lots of places doing take out food on site or food pick up not sure what board you are on. You in PDLA or elsewhere on the island?

Dowser · 17/03/2020 23:52

Thanks ladies.
I’ve packed like a maniac tonight , got a text tonight , rang up and basically there’s about 6 seats on a flight leaving tomorrow
Did I want a seat?
Last flight leaves on the 21st
Then it’s make your own way home
Autumn if they are with jet2 they need to know this
Yes PDLA
Friend on EasyJet , wasn’t due to go back till 27 th, they took her today
We are going a week early,
We’ve had two weeks.

We are on lock down in lanzarote. Should have been flying home sat but that got cancelled and we got on a flight for Friday. Can't wait to get home. 😕

Starisnotanumber · 18/03/2020 07:56

Great news for you Dowser. How you getting to airport are taxis still running?, If you are going by bus you need a tenmas card they have stopped taking cash.
Friends have said there is no food at airport or on plane so take something if you can,if you take an empty water bottle there's a couple of water fountains you can use.
Have a safe journey

Dowser · 18/03/2020 08:08

Thank you all.
Slept so poorly last night, no wonder with all that adrenaline running through my veins
Couldn’t switch off
Then just when I did a blooming txt from dil woke us as I’d forgotten to put phone on silent mode and she’s been anxious over the cough she has all winter.
I was feeling so well here, taking everything in my stride
Now feel back to square 1

Dread to think what Would have happened if I hadn’t rang them yesterday
The message my stress head heard was if you don’t take tomorrow’s flight and the rest of the planes are full, there no more after the 21st and you have to make your own way home

I put the phone down and bawled My eyes out
Then I packed with a vengeance

Since Sunday, it’s turned quite chilly here. Sunday was a dreadful day. One of those grey pancake clouds just sat over los cris and pdla all day
Monday was a nicer day, yesterday was cool again, today seems to be shaping up the same.
Plans to sit and get some rays on the balconies, didn’t really happen which was annoying as the week before had been lovely.
It just felt like a grey day at home with no telly!
Friends who have gone home this week all day it’s been mayhem at the airport
Jet2 said there’s 70,000 people over mainland, canaries and Balearics to repatriate by end of 21st
Really hope autumn that your rellys aren’t with them
You have to keep plugging away at their number
Then you get a txt telling you to ring
Then the shit happens.

OP posts:
Starisnotanumber · 18/03/2020 09:03

What time are you off. Jet2 seem to be one of the better airlines glad you aren't with Ryanair. They are still running flights stating that they are getting people home to Spain /Canaries so not giving refunds or changing dates

Vanillaradio · 18/03/2020 09:09

I hope you get home Ok. Just be mindful that the airport will be packed out, flights will be late and there will be no shops/cafes open. A friend came back a couple of days ago, there was a 12 hour delay to her flight and they have 6 month old baby- not fun!! They finally got a flight at 5.30am. I hope it all goes well for youFlowers

Dowser · 18/03/2020 10:23

1/4 to 3 I hope
Barely slept last night
Spoke to a friend here, they think they are going back on the 23 rd ...April 😱
Somehow I doubt it
I’d be ringing up and double checking.
The military truck has been round again telling people to stay in side
I hope this isn’t what we are destined for in uk

Thanks Dowser, I just got DH to ring them and impress on them the seriousness of the situation.

They're saying they are not allowed out until after 29th so they can't fly until after then. We're trying to explain there probably won't be flights after that for an extended period.

Will call them again later. Hoping in the meantime they've spurred into action.

Starisnotanumber · 18/03/2020 14:06

Hope you are at the airport now and things are going smoothly for you and you get home safely and can relax.

Dowser · 18/03/2020 15:07

Have you see the video of the police arresting a woman in the paradise park hotel who wouldn’t get out of the pool
Police man stripped to his boxers and hauled her out and cuffed her.
Rather roughly too

OP posts:
EverythingChanges321 · 18/03/2020 15:11

Yes I did see that video and she deserved it, silly woman.

Dowser · 18/03/2020 15:17

It was absolute mayhem at the airport
I’ve never seen anything like it in my life
Must’ve been thousands there
Just one bar/ restaurant over
I reckon when the tourists are off the island the authorities are really going to step it up a notch and no more mr nice guy.theyve turned a blind eye to holidaymakers almost jaywalking their way to supermarkets but I think they will begin to get tougher and don’t think it will be a nice experience

They are removing tourists from the beach hotels. They’ve definitely been flouting the rules down there.
One party is moving today from palm beach...and they’re leaving tomorrow
They wouldn’t let them stay though.
It’s turned cool this week so not too sorry.
( I don’t think)
Flight is full to the brim ...whole airport is
We are going to sit 45 minutes on the tarmac now ☹️

Dowser · 18/03/2020 15:19

British too..spoke at the airport to a guest who saw it all.

OP posts:
Dowser · 18/03/2020 15:20

Whole airport is closing this weekend.
First I heard Saturday..then Sunday.
So not too sure.

justtheonethen · 18/03/2020 15:23

@Dowser we are in Tenerife too. We are due to fly back on Sunday evening. Called tui (we are in a villa so just have flights with them) and they said unless I hear otherwise our flight will be the same.
Getting a bit worried they will close airspace and we will be stuck.

Dowser · 18/03/2020 15:35

Ring every day just one
It’s all changing so quickly
Sunday I was told the 25 th, only to ring yesterday to find we were going today.
I heard one of the airport staff say no flights tomorrow.
Are they doing the mainland tomorrow?
I don’t know.
Who are you flying with
If it’s jet 2 I’ll ask one of the staff if they know
On the other hand the staff in the call centre didn’t know much more.

OP posts:
Dowser · 18/03/2020 15:36

Yes plenty of taxis...ours was lovely and are very grateful for the business
Presumably their income will take a massive hit with no airport runs.

OP posts:
BirdandSparrow · 18/03/2020 15:41

I saw that video of the British people getting hauled out of the pool. What a pair of twats. Hope they got a stonking fine for such shitty behavior.

justtheonethen · 18/03/2020 16:05

@Dowser we are flying with tui. I'll call again tomorrow.
