Jam on toast, acceptable breakfast. Jam sandwich.... Not

Why do you think that things are "designated" breakfast (and lunch/dinner) food. And there are looks of horror if you have something that is essentially the same

So jam on toast for breakfast? Yawn, whatever.
Jam sandwich for breakfast...the HORROR

Sausage, beans and hash browns ... acceptable.
Sausage, beans and chips for brekkie... Madness!

Marmelade on toast in the UK, but jam on a roll in Germany, for example.
I like smoked fish for breakfast (if I am having breakfast), but this is regarded as heathen, where I live.

BarbaraofSeville · 16/03/2020 08:56

I can't see how jam on toast is a good breakfast. Doesn't make you starving an hour later?

Just have what you want to and ignore those incapable of rational thought.

Annoyance · 16/03/2020 10:00

It depends on the quality of the bread.

Couldn't give a toss about a "good" breakfast or not... Just it's an acceptable food for breakfast... But only as toast, not as a sandwich

ahahah is so true though! just feels so wrong to eat some things, yet it makes no sense.

lazylinguist · 16/03/2020 11:57

Yes it's all nonsense really. Bread and jam isn't a great choice whatever time it is, but neither are most breakfast choices tbh. It's just culture and habit. We'd probably all be better off eating some protein and veg for breakfast, but it feels weird because we're not used to it. I guess it's partly about convenience too - people want to grab something and go in the morning, not be faffing about with making a meal.

Nikhedonia · 16/03/2020 12:41

Chicken for breakfast, just NO!!

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 16/03/2020 13:05

Doner kebab in daylight. Sick and perverted.

MrsEsss · 16/03/2020 13:11

Hot pizza - no.
Cold pizza - yes, yes, yes! 😋

AlCalavicci · 16/03/2020 13:23

When I was little apparently I asked for raw toast and jam for breckfast Confused

I still ( when feeling daft ) refer to sandwiches as raw toast or toast as burnt slices

florababy84 · 16/03/2020 13:41

Chicken for breakfast, just NO!!

Yes this is so odd. We happily eat pork products and sometimes even beef for breakfast but why does chicken at breakfast feel wrong?

MinnieMountain · 16/03/2020 16:29

Yet people eat donner kebabs for lunch in Germany.

BarkandCheese · 16/03/2020 16:38

Muffin, yes, cake, no.

Smoked salmon, yes, fish fingers, no.

Baguette, yes, garlic bread, no.

Fried sliced potatoes, yes, chips, no.

Black pudding, yes, chorizo, no.

Danish pastry, yes, scone, no.

Bowl of cereal, yes, bowl of soup, no.

Itstheprinciple · 16/03/2020 18:51

I had a jam sandwich for breakfast on Sunday. No idea I was breaking a rule!

Itsashame · 16/03/2020 18:54

I sometimes make my kids sandwiches for breakfast, ham, tuna or cheese with salad. I know it feels wrong but why? Healthy enough and they like it

MauriceandAlec · 16/03/2020 19:00

Food is food in this house. My son usually makes himself a sandwich in the morning (or two) and my daughter usually reheats leftovers.

AnotherMurkyDay · 16/03/2020 19:02

Almost anything on toast = breakfast
Cheese on toast? You heathen

AnotherMurkyDay · 16/03/2020 19:02

Welsh Rarebit? Are you on glue?

mogtheexcellent · 16/03/2020 19:21

Dh thinks I'm weird as I love egg mayonnaise on toast (no butter). Yum.

homemadecommunistrussia · 16/03/2020 19:25

I like a cheese and tomato sandwich for breakfast.
Veggie shepherds pie also works.
I quite fancy a chip butty for breakfast too, but sadly haven't had one.Sad

AnotherMurkyDay · 16/03/2020 20:03

@mogtheexcellent

Still warm eggs mashed with mayo on crunchy toast is amazing. I also love it in baked potatoes. YUM

ginandbearit · 16/03/2020 20:09

An elderly patient of mine , when asked if he would like a pizza for lunch , said "oh no , cant stand pizza...can I have Welsh Rarebit?"😬

Dreamersandwishers · 16/03/2020 20:12

My mum gave us find us pancakes for breakfast - loved it x

teraculum29 · 16/03/2020 20:23

its like you wouldn't eat roast for breakfast but happily you would eat fry up

Redcrayons · 16/03/2020 20:32

This is exactly the kind of nonsense thread I need today.

Jam on toast is just for breakfast, though Nutella on toast works as breakfast and late night snack.

A running buddy told me they always have porridge as A bedtime snack the day before a race. Shock weirdo.
