Sod it, I'm opening some champagne.

The news is dire, people around me are panicking, I'm on a zero hour supply teaching contract and schools may be closing

I'm finding solace in champagne and The Thick Of It on Netflix.

I’ve gone cheap and opened the Asti, needed Happy bubbles tonight, but liking the idea of champagne! been told not to come in Monday, so guess it’s all change from now on.

ArthurDentsSpaceTowel · 13/03/2020 22:55

My DM has promised us she's stocked up on the Tio Pepe sherry for when we come over this weekend.GrinWine

MusicToMyEars800 · 13/03/2020 23:13

AlCalavicci · 13/03/2020 23:15

MusicToMyEars800 · 13/03/2020 23:18

Need more booze and I’m all out.... had a bottle +1 glass, now I’m out!!! And watching rick and morty.... I need more booze 😑

SapphireSeptember · 13/03/2020 23:42

I have lots of gin Gin and tea, Brew not a lot of chocolate Chocolate (might have to rectify that, also I have a voucher for Hotel Chocolat Grin) and sainsbos had loo roll today! The gig I was going to in April has been postponed till the autumn (thankfully not cancelled) and my mum said it'll give me something to look forward to in these shit times. So I raise a glass of gin to you all, and I hope we all get through this!

Seventyone72seventy3 · 14/03/2020 08:13

I can't believe that we are in lockdown and I forgot to get chocolate or biscuits! 😫 Don't make my mistake!!

MusicToMyEars800 · 14/03/2020 08:49

I have to venture out in the madness to Morrison’s today 😩 I am dreading it.... I will however take pictures to entertain you all 😂

TheVanguardSix · 14/03/2020 08:56

Where’s lockdown? Are we in lockdown? I’m in a hospital bed, no windows, don’t know night from day. I’m probably in a corona cluster on my very ward. Fuck knows.
Stockpile the champagne! Replace your milk with it. Grin
I feel like I’m in a bubble of industrial green paint and machine bleeps. Tell me what it’s like outside these walls, out there in the land that bog roll forgot! Detailed descriptions full of purple prose, please! Describe Supermarket Sweep Saturday at Morrison’s! I want the guts of the story! I want entrails! Grin

SapphireSeptember · 14/03/2020 10:21

I've looked at the news and it's just said big gatherings are going to be banned from next week, I can't see anything about lockdown. Unless you're in a different country? I don't think the UK government have any intention of doing anything like that, no matter how bad it gets. I have lots of biscuits and I'm going to get some chocolate later. Smile

@TheVanguardSix The blossoms are sprouting, birds are tweeting, the daffodils are out in force, rabbits are frolicking (probably, haven't been up to the train station since November, I walk past a big field near to it and there's usually a few bunnies bunny-ing around.) Smile

NoGravyForYou · 14/03/2020 13:04

@TheVanguardsix it's definitely spring at the moment, lots of daffs blowing in the wind ( there's been a lot of wind ). But you can feel it in the air that the heaviness of winter is starting to lift.

Howmanysleepsnow · 14/03/2020 13:40

@TheVanguardSix it’s weird. No one walking on the streets (not sure about the city centre, but not in our local shopping area), but lots and lots of cars. Supermarket car parks are rammed. I’ve not been in one today but yesterday I needed milk and fresh fruit veg. It was like Christmas Eve levels of busy, or more. No loo roll, kitchen roll, rice (except a couple of pouches), pasta (except lasagne, cornflakes, long life milk, soup, tinned tomatoes or tuna. Several people bulk buying beer and cider!
Dh works in a non-food shop and sales were 30% of normal yesterday.
A&E is full of people on trolleys in corridors as separate wards are shut for coronavirus and query-coronavirus-but-not-diagnosed-yet-cases so nowhere to admit to.

Neilsfavouritechilli · 14/03/2020 15:43

So I've decided to start self medicating early today after a dreadful trip to do the weekly shop. No Heinz beans, no decent loo roll and worst of all no ciabatta - I had to have paninis with my crab salad. I finally understand what my poor gran suffered during rationing. I'm currently making emergency pasta sauce with the last of my tapenade and chorizo. How did it get to this? (I'm trying to be lighthearted lest I be flamed). Plenty of booze in the shops though 😀

chocolatesaltyballs22 · 14/03/2020 16:01

Wish I'd found this thread last night and second whoever suggested a Friday night wine club! Feel like everything else on here is doom and gloom at the minute.

Wineislifex · 14/03/2020 16:02

The wines back open...it’s four o’clock 🥂

LemonNSugar · 14/03/2020 16:05

Local Sainsbury’s has run out of so much stuff, but plenty of booze and meat available. I might have a boozy (guest-free) bbq tomorrow Grin

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 14/03/2020 16:09

For me, a bottle of Cahors and some powerful cheese.

SunshineCake · 14/03/2020 16:52

Sorry to hear of your recent diagnosis @Iusedtobeapartygirl.

I want a baileys but it is a bit early.

LilyRose88 · 14/03/2020 16:53

Just ordered some Red Velvet Baileys online after reading this thread. I'm not drinking at the moment but my daughter is visiting next week and I thought it would be a nice treat for her! And I have decided that my diet is on hold for the moment, so I have bought some nice chocolate and kettle crisps.

bluebellation · 14/03/2020 16:59

@TheVanguardSix I live in Ireland where the daffodils are nearly over, but we have wood anemones aplenty and the wild garlic is coming up. Lidl today had plenty of toilet rolls but no eggs or lentils, which was a bit weird . I hope your hospital stay is not too long and you're home soon .
