As a customer are you avoiding these children’s play things right now?

We have been trying to open a children’s play centre for a few months now. We have had delays due to the equipment being stuck in China. It is now on the way but we are now thinking that we will encounter more problems due to people avoiding indoor gatherings in the near future.
As a parent, will you be avoiding indoor activities during the Easter holidays assuming Covid-19 is still a threat?

Very definitely. And mine are of an age where they enjoy soft play type things. DS is asthmatic, grandad has a partially collapsed lung and is 81, DM is in hospital with infections as it is already. We're going nowhere with lots of people these holidays.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 12/03/2020 21:14

Yes, sorry. Outdoors only, and we have membership.

INeedNewShoes · 12/03/2020 21:14

I'm definitely at the more cautious end of the spectrum on things like this. I'm not a great fan of softplay generally as most of the ones I've seen are not cleaned enough and are pretty grim really. We have a couple of smaller ones near us that are cleaned properly daily and today I probably would still go to one of these well kept places.

DD has an appointment at a children's hairdressers next week for a cut. They have a playroom attached that is usually beautifully looked after and clean and part of having a haircut for her is that she gets to play afterwards.

At this stage I won't be cancelling but if things are substantially worse in a week's time then I don't think I will want DD mixing with other kids' germs unnecessarily.

She goes to nursery so I have become pragmatic about most germs but I am concerned as someone whose lungs aren't great that getting Covid-19 could be particularly nasty for me.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 12/03/2020 21:15

Not a chance.

Noti23 · 12/03/2020 21:16

Currently? No. If things get worse (which they will)? Yes. I’m young with no health concerns and it doesn’t affect children badly so I’m not desperately worried (I will self isolate immediately if we get ill). I’ve decided that I’m not going to visit my 86 year old gran anytime soon though. I suppose it depends on how quickly things progress. I wouldn’t have thought this is the best time to open a play centre. In a month’s time we might be at the quarantine stage.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 12/03/2020 21:16

Well soft play is a germ breading ground at the best of time...I won’t be taking my dc in the next few weeks

halcyondays · 12/03/2020 21:17

Of course it’ll still be a threat at Easter.

Mamato2gorgeousboys · 12/03/2020 21:19

Yes, sorry to say this, but we’ll be avoiding them for the foreseeable future.

WifOfBif · 12/03/2020 21:20

We usually go to soft play regularly, but will not be visiting any for the foreseeable.

DrSheldonCooperPHD · 12/03/2020 21:20

We are completely avoiding soft play at the moment. Last time we went my eldest crawled through a tunnel and when he came out the other side realised he has crawled through a large puddle of someone else's wee - they're gross at the best of times but I'll happily take the kids because they love it - but not with this coronavirus to contend with on top of the usual germ fest.

Scruffyoak · 12/03/2020 21:20

I am avoiding them atm

hidinginthenightgarden · 12/03/2020 21:22

It’s not actually soft play. It’s closer to a trampoline park but I’m aware both share the fact that they are indoors, sweaty kids and germs will mix. Slightly less than soft play as it isn’t a confined space but a lot of trampoline parks and soft play places round here seem to be putting up posts about the precautions they are taking so I assume people aren’t going.

I'm completely avoiding soft play too. With the weather this awful it's not as though I can take my toddler outside to play either. I'm going off on a tangent here but it's really very depressing being cooped up inside like this!

Teakind · 12/03/2020 21:26

I'm avoiding all indoor play spaces at the moment too. I worry about the businesses but it's not a risk I want to take at the moment.

INeedNewShoes · 12/03/2020 21:28

I find its worth braving the weather and getting togged up in waterproofs etc. to get some fresh air! Don't let the weather stop you.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 12/03/2020 21:28

We're sticking to National Trust etc lots of outdoor stuff. Maybe even the beach depending on winds.

We won't go to soft play again until this all finishes. Dunno what to do if the kids get invited to a party at one.

ForeverBubblegum · 12/03/2020 21:29

I'm not but it seems as though lots of people are. DS more or less had a softplay to himself today (so ironically probably less germs then usual)

Sorry, it must be a stressful time for you, do you have the option to delay opening?

Spied · 12/03/2020 21:30

I wouldn't be taking my DC.

hidinginthenightgarden · 12/03/2020 21:30

Yes we can delay the opening but once we commit, we will have to start paying rent so don’t want to open and no one come so we can’t pay rent!

Exochord · 12/03/2020 21:31

Nope. We’re playing in the back garden because we can’t afford to catch coronavirus. We have elderly relatives to think about.

Starlight456 · 12/03/2020 21:34

I went to soft play last week , the same amount as usual.

A few less at a couple of groups this week.

Haggisfish · 12/03/2020 21:35

I will be avoiding until after holidays too.

LetsAskaRobot · 12/03/2020 21:38

We tend to visit soft play/trampoline park/inflatable parks once a week, but have been avoiding for the past couple of weeks and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future Sad

12345ct · 12/03/2020 22:00

Absolutely I will be avoiding soft play.

Imicola · 12/03/2020 22:01

I'll be there because it will be nice and quiet!
