Would you travel to turkey next week?

Background is we have a work conference in Turkey next week. 4 of us attending. Work still happy for us to go and I think there's very very few cases of coronovirus reported in Istanbul which is where we'll be. Two out of the 4 of us are worried about going. I was fine but I'm getting a bit jittery and don't want to be stuck abroad. What would you do? Very worried and confused.

No. I travel a lot for work across many countries. We have banned all air travel.

You will be in a sealed tube breathing recirculated air for 4 hrs. You have no control over who else is on the plane or who they have been in contact with. All you know is that they are people who travel.

hairymuffet · 12/03/2020 18:51

No

niceberg · 12/03/2020 18:52

Definitely not.

TorkTorkBam · 12/03/2020 18:52

UK is pretty bad right now. Don't take it to Turkey.

ForeverRedSkinhead · 12/03/2020 18:53

No.

Nixee2231 · 12/03/2020 18:53

Turkey has just banned travel into the country from alot of European countries. UK is not among them as far as I know but I wouldn't be surprised if it were also banned soon. They are being super strict and have already closed schools, banned all gatherings etc.

inwood · 12/03/2020 19:00

No. I'm surprised your company has given it the go ahead tbh.

peachypetite · 12/03/2020 19:01

No

TheHumansAreDefinitelyDead · 12/03/2020 19:02

No, what if the close borders whilst you are there?!

blue25 · 12/03/2020 19:03

No way

firsttimemummyd · 12/03/2020 19:05

Definitely not. I would also look for a new job as a company encouraging their staff to travel at this time is certainly not looking after the welfare of their employees.

Powergower · 12/03/2020 19:05

The company were waiting for the outcome of the cobra meeting and I think were preparing to cancel. But due to no lockdown declared they've not cancelled. They're still reviewing so it could all change tomorrow but just wondering whether I need to panic a bit more. There were rumours floating around our area that all schools would close from tomorrow and that led to a lot of panic buying and panic responses from locals. It's been a crazy week.

Have they had the four of you tested to make sure you are not silent carriers?

PrincessMargaret · 12/03/2020 19:23

All travel banned at my company. Just do Skype.

Khione · 12/03/2020 19:45

I would

Happygirl79 · 12/03/2020 19:47

I would refuse to go

Kitcat47 · 12/03/2020 19:54

I would not go

Todayissunny · 12/03/2020 19:58

No. I wouldn't go.
i cant help feeling suspicious that Turkey has only reported one case so far.

Pinkfrangipani · 12/03/2020 20:01

@Todayissunny I agree. One case? Seems highly unlikely. I wouldn't go either.

Roselilly36 · 12/03/2020 20:02

No way, the situation is changing daily, what if you can’t get back, how will that impact on your family?

Powergower · 12/03/2020 20:28

Decided not to go. It's too risky. Next dilemma, was very smug about not having panicked but just realised we are down to the last bog roll!!

Todayissunny · 12/03/2020 21:10

@Pinkfrangipani - i have just found some numbers. Turkey have tested 940 people - in a country of about 84 million.

UnholyStramash · 12/03/2020 21:18

Absolutely not

Maythelordopen1 · 12/03/2020 21:19

No way!!

safariboot · 12/03/2020 22:29

I would cancel now on the grounds that there's a significant risk you'll be in Turkey and your return flight will be cancelled!
