Please help! I’ve overeaten and now feel really sick!!!

Well this is pretty embarrassing.

I’m slim and normally eat a decent diet. Today for some reason I have totally overindulged. I suffered from bulimia for 7 years but worked through it with the help of counselling and have been fine for the last 9 years. I do suffer from anxiety and depression but I’m on medication for that which is really working.

The problem is, I am now lying in bed really nauseous. It’s awful. Is there anything I can do which doesn’t involve me making myself sick, to ease this horrible feeling?

Please help!!!

rub your tummy perhaps.. help it digest .. walk around the room maybe... gosh don't do anything drastic.. hope you feel better soon.. it's a horrid feeling. 🌺

RedRed9 · 10/03/2020 20:36

Make yourself cold: Open the windows. Put a cold flannel on your head.

Soon it will pass and you’ll snuggle under your duvet.

Greywind1523 · 10/03/2020 20:36

Peppermint or ginger is good for getting rid of the bloated feeling.

Anything minty like chewing gum or anything similar like peppermint tea

YouBoggleMyMind · 10/03/2020 20:37

Really deep slow breaths. I'm through the nose, out through the mouth. Repeat. Concentrate on those individual breaths. I always find keeping myself cool helps with feeling sick too.

LefttoherownDevizes · 10/03/2020 20:37

Renies, tums or other antacids. DS2 feels really ill if he eats too much and really finds they help

Softleftpowerstance · 10/03/2020 20:39

It’s a horrible feeling, especially if you have a history of bulimia.

Try mint or ginger tea (just steep mint leaves or fresh ginger in boiling water)

Try brushing your teeth or chewing gum to help avoid the temptation to vomit.

A gentle walk probably isn’t the solution right now as you don’t want to divert blood from your digestive system.

Try not to panic. This is something lots of people do without having a history of ED and it doesn’t mean you’ve undone all your progress.

MitziK · 10/03/2020 20:41

Something cool on your head, rest and let your digestion get on with it.

It'll pass soon.

giftponderings · 10/03/2020 20:42

Maybe open a window and get a few breaths of fresh air?

HopelesslyMe · 10/03/2020 20:55

Thanks everyone. And thank you for not judging me. I feel disgusting right now.

I don’t have any tums/rennies. Would ranitidine help at all? I was warm under my covers so have opened the bedroom window and pulled back the covers. Will head downstairs and check if I have any peppermint/ginger tea.

I actually feel as though I’m likely to be sick at any moment. It feels like the nausea you get with a sickness bug. Why did I do this to myself!?

Don't panic
Breathe
Prop yourself up on pillows
Distract yourself with film, radio or calming music
Open a window
Tiny sips of San Pellegrino or similar natural sparkling mineral water (it makes you feel fuller at first, but then you burp!)

Fairylea · 10/03/2020 20:57

Can you get out for a walk? Always helps me when I feel like this, the fresh air seems to help and walking takes your mind off it.

HopelesslyMe · 10/03/2020 20:57

Doesn’t help that DH is away, the kids are in bed, I’ve got the house to tidy and things to sort for tomorrow!

Sizeablecontours · 10/03/2020 20:59

Poor you op. You'll be fine in a little while Flowers

thebabessavedme · 10/03/2020 20:59

a cup of boiled water (drink while fairly hot) will help, you will fart like a gun but the nausea will ease

BumbleBeee69 · 10/03/2020 21:07

oh yes.. boiled water works... I remember that now...

KittenVsBox · 10/03/2020 21:24

Pottering round doing stuff isnt a bad idea.
Stay upright for a bit rather than lying down.
Hope you feel better soon.

Fatted · 10/03/2020 21:29

Are you sure you haven't eaten something that's given you a bad stomach?! I get hot and feel nauseated when I've got food poisoning.

Rennie and Gaviscon can help, but if you don't have anything like that try some of your ranitadine or a small drink of milk. DH gets bad heartburn, feels sick with it and some milk can help settle his stomach.

FruityWidow · 10/03/2020 21:30

There's a really good yoga with adrienne video on YouTube for digestion

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 10/03/2020 21:40

If you can stomach it swallow a teaspoon of malt vinegar or two. After half an hour have some milk. Lying down on a full stomach is most likely to blame. Stay upright without slouching and hold s hot water bottle on your stomach. The heat and vinegar seems to encourage the digestive system. The milk is for the heart burn that you'll get from the vinegar. If you dont have vinegar, anything acidic will do. Lemon juice, coke etc

womanaf · 10/03/2020 21:53

Don’t lie flat. Sit up or pillows so you’re lying at angle.

If you’ve got chewing gum that sometimes can help.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 10/03/2020 21:57

A couple of bay leaves steeped in boiling water, with a wee squeeze of lemon. Drink as hot as poss. Old Sicilian cure-all that I swear by.

TheUnquestionedAnswer · 10/03/2020 22:04

I usually bring in a bucket to the bedroom and just try some meditation when I feel like this. It's reassuring then, in case it comes. on suddenly. Hope you feel better soon.

gower4 · 10/03/2020 22:05

Maybe you do have a tummy bug? When I get one it feels exactly like being too full.

Sizeablecontours · 11/03/2020 07:01

How are you this morning op?
