Help me find this film from childhood

I have this memory of watching a film with my mum one afternoon when I was off sick from school. This is what I can remember: some people moved into a haunted house , there were a number of different ghosts in it, the very end credits are where the family are driving off in an old fashioned car and you see all the ghosts sitting on the back, going with them. In my mind, they waved at the camera but this may be a false memory. I think it was black and white - it was definitely an old style film- think 'The Ghost and Mrs Muir' in terms of the way it looked- and one of the ghosts was an older man, silly and comedic. I have searched Google and just cannot find it- a couple of weeks ago I read either a thread on here or an online article about old family ghost films and I thought I had bookmarked it to go through them all and see if any of them were my film- but I can't find the bookmark! Any one out there know what I am talking about? I'd love to watch it again as it is one of my best memories of me and my lovely late Mum.

Is it 13 Ghosts?

crochetmonkey74 · 05/03/2020 14:16

No, it's an old film, funny family type one

Something about your description is reminding me of The Amazing Mr Blunden, but I think that's in colour. It hits some of the plot points, though.

Topper?

crochetmonkey74 · 05/03/2020 14:39

The Amazing mr Blunden sounds nearly there- but there were definitely a few funny ghosts in the car at the end.

Topper has a different ending- have checked online but the look of Topper is the same sort of thing

I meant the 1960 13 Ghosts.

I don't think it is The Canterbury Ghost

this has a pretty good list

Beetlejuice?!

seekingwaxwings · 05/03/2020 14:50

I know you said it was an old b&w film, but it sounds like the plot and ending of Haunted Mansion.

crochetmonkey74 · 05/03/2020 14:56

Yeah me too- it was I think older than that- and I was half wondering if it is an Abbot and Costello or something like that

Will deffo look through that Wiki list

Defo not Beetlejuice

High Spirits?

There is an old fashioned car that drives off at the end but the ghosts don't go with them.

crochetmonkey74 · 05/03/2020 15:23

High Spirits is right in the type of family story- but a bit too late - it is older than that

Blythe Spirit?

PrincessHoneysuckle · 05/03/2020 15:31

Addams family?
Casper?

BronzeSilverGold13 · 05/03/2020 15:49

The only film I can think of that sounds anything like that is the haunted mansion with Eddie Murphy but that's from 2003!

Sorry it might not be useful - the film has an old style to it, not quite Ghost and mrs muir but old comedy!

Herocomplex · 05/03/2020 15:51

The Canterville Ghost?

Isingtoomuch · 05/03/2020 16:04

Candleshoe?

seekingwaxwings · 05/03/2020 16:33

Yes I suggested that up thread bronze. OP are you sure you didn't watch Haunted Mansion on a black and white telly? Smile

crochetmonkey74 · 05/03/2020 16:34

Candleshoe is the right type of car but definitely not the film and I am almost certain it was black and white- definitely not a fake memory either as Mum remembered it the same. Not the Canterville Ghost- but similar in style and tone- it's driving me mad!

Could it have been one of the Munsters films?

crochetmonkey74 · 05/03/2020 16:45

no, not the Munsters- the joke at the end was that the people thought they were escaping the house, but as we watched the car drive off, the ghosts were sitting on the tail of the car going with them

are you sure it was a film and not an episode from a series? Was it UK or US? I am strangely invested in identifying this film :)

Standrewsschool · 05/03/2020 17:09

Rentaghost - tv series not a film.

The recent sitcom called Ghosts has a similar storyline, someone inherits a haunted house. She can see the spirits but her boyfriend can’t. It was quite good.

ghosts

This occurred to me yesterday so I am now wondering trawling old episodes of things but I have no idea where to start!

None of the films mentioned so far I'm afraid : (
