Day 6 of awful diarrhoea, losing weight, doctors?

Bringringbring12 · 24/02/2020 13:05

Just that. I am on day 6 of horrific diarrhoea.

I am very underweight and trying hard to put on but this is setting me back badly. I’m eating but it’s coming out of me within hours.

It has definitely improved from three days ago (when I was chained to the toilet) but it’s still bad.

Doctors? Or ride it out?

Tia

Same here OP, I ordered some fortisip yesterday. It's not nice, is it?

I'd go to doctors

Bringringbring12 · 24/02/2020 13:11

Thank you
What are you eating? Losing weight? It’s dreadful

Fortsip - not heard of it

Have you been to docs?

Any idea of your cause? Mine from holiday abroad.

What exactly are you eating?

It could be that whatever is causing the issue is getting fuel from what you’re eating

I would request a telephone appointment if possible or if not call 111

I once had similar and was told not to eat any fat or meat only boiled rice and veg to starve out the bug...

Mine was something I brought back from Egypt I seem to remember!

Frownette · 24/02/2020 13:18

Bring at the moment I'm eating toast, berries with bio yogurt, cheese and crackers, olives and bananas.

I'm in a different county for 2 months so no idea where doctors surgery is. Could try 111.

Boiled rice and vegetables?

Bringringbring12 · 24/02/2020 13:20

Crackers
Rice
Rice cakes rice cakes rice cakes
Cereal and almond milk

I would advise a huge amount of apple sauce (a cooking apple cooked in a few tablespoons of water). I think it's the pectin or something in it and it works brilliantly. I had diarrhoea for about two weeks before and was advised to stop feeding the bug and drink full sugar juice by the doctor (and to give them a stool sample which I just couldn't bare to do).

anyoldvic · 24/02/2020 13:33

Yes lose the fruit and cereal, avoid all nuts, vegetables, fibre.

Eat apple compote, rice, rice milk (not almond), carrot purée, white bread, drink lots of water.

And definitely go to the doctors.

BeeMyBaby · 24/02/2020 13:34

Should say fizzy juice, not fruit juice, although the only side note to that is I was not underweight.

Frownette · 24/02/2020 13:35

Oh god not when it's liquid Bee!! I'll get some white rice later

Frownette · 24/02/2020 13:41

No vegetables?

I'd have to get hold of some baby food for the purees. This doesn't sound like fine dining...

Frownette · 24/02/2020 13:41

I'm not giving up tea

Bringringbring12 · 24/02/2020 13:42

@anyoldvic

Thank you
Why definitely doc? The diarrhoea or losing weight and already underweight?

Imodium, get someone to fetch you this from pharmacy and then phone your gp and see what they say

woodencoffeetable · 24/02/2020 13:46

could be a parasitic infection like giardia.
you need to see a doc and mention where you have been so you can get the right treatment.

noblegiraffe · 24/02/2020 13:47

I had this and it was campylobacter which is a Notifiable disease, I had to fill out a form of exactly what I’d eaten 3 days before it started.

It did pass without medication but was awful. I’d go to the docs.

anyoldvic · 24/02/2020 13:49

Both, Bringring, there might be something behind both your low bodyweight and diarrhoea that needs investigating.

Frownette · 24/02/2020 13:51

Ahh giardia- when I got here the loo was filthy so I spent quite a long time cleaning it

LennyPugGoat · 24/02/2020 14:02

Day 10 for me (not a stealth boast) it’s been awful and I finally gave in and went to the doctors (mainly because I needed a certificate for work)

They want a stool sample and a blood test. Wrote gastrointestinal on the sick note. I have a temp and dehydrated so I’ll follow this thread and take any tips I can get.

I’m living off tea and toast

LennyPugGoat · 25/02/2020 00:07

Update

I’m currently 5 hours explosive diarrhoea free! It’s gone midnight and I’m still up feel hungry and thirsty.

Bringringbring12 · 25/02/2020 05:29

@noblegiraffe

I have just read about that and I think it’s what I have. I fit every symptom and I got it whilst in a developing country all inclusive!

Day 7. No real ease up at all. How long did yours last @noblegiraffe? I am managing to keep my fluids up easily (evidenced by lots of urinating)

You need to be screened
Giardia in particular causes weight loss with diarrhoea

dontgobaconmyheart · 25/02/2020 06:13

If you think you have it OP then all you really need to do is call the GP surgery to speak ro a doctor and explain this and give in a stool sample. Be sure to mention that you have been abroad and where. It's catching so get the bleach and disinfectant out, clean everything you've touched, buy immodium, buy rehydration salts and try meal replacements to keep your calorie intake up until the tests are back. You might need antibiotics to clear it so no need to suffer unnecessarily.

Frownette · 25/02/2020 06:13

Yay Lenny! I've got to go to the doctors about something else this week so I'll ask then

Frownette · 25/02/2020 06:16

Bring hope you see doc soon.

I'll let you know what the fortisip is like, think it arrives thursday
