Dd is turning 12 next week and is having a few friends over.

She wants to make their own subways at home. What bread would you use?

What fillings?

Has anyone done it before? 🙈

You can buy sub rolls in the supermarket, then I'd just get some meat and salady bits, maybe look at the subway menu online? I think it's a lovely idea. Maybe you could ask your DD what her fave subway fillings are, and do those

What a great idea! Potentially fairly cheap too

Cheese slices
Jalapeños

Ooh this is a fab idea for a party!
Lots of deli meats eg pre cooked chicken, beef, lots of salad and sauces.

whitesoxx · 22/02/2020 17:26

Look on Pinterest.

Separate all the toppings into bowls or Tupperware and set it out like the Subway counter.

Don't forget the sauces! And the sides, walkers crisps and giant cookies and muffins

Go into Subway and ask for napkins and branded cups for the drinks Grin

OldUnit · 22/02/2020 17:26

Cook some chicken off in a fajita seasoning. 😍

OldUnit · 22/02/2020 17:26

Yes! Deffo an arrangement of big cookies

peachypetite · 22/02/2020 17:33

Get a load of different rolls and bowls with

  • grated carrot
  • olives
  • cheese
  • cucumber
  • tomato
AlwaysCheddar · 22/02/2020 17:33

Little pots of nachos!

Gazelda · 22/02/2020 17:49

I'm stealing this idea! Sounds brilliant fun, easy and cheap.

FoxRedBitch · 22/02/2020 17:59

It's a great idea but you will have to find subs that are big enough. I tried to replicate my favourite subway at home with some sub rolls from the supermarket, I barely got a third of the filling in before they fell apart.

I would almost be tempted to ask your local subway if you can buy some rolls from them.

ChippyMinton · 22/02/2020 18:09

How would you replicate the grilling thing or whatever it is they do to melt the cheese?

And the aroma! It’s so distinctive when you walk past.

EmpressJewel · 22/02/2020 18:12

Make up menus for all of the guests and give them 'vouchers' eg free bottomless drink with every sub or free cookie if you choose extra salad.

Get some packaging to wrap up the subs eg wrap them in grease proof paper and put in a paper bag (print off subway logo).

For pudding, do an ice cream factory with different sauces and sprinkles.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 22/02/2020 18:12

Buy white and brown sub rolls

Put out bowls of chopped pepper, cucumber etc

Have chicken (plain & fajita seasoning flavour chicken) beef, ham

Slices of cheese

Bbq sauce, sweet chilli sauce, mayo

A bit plate of cookies

All out on a table, then let the dc knock themselves out

BigFatLiar · 22/02/2020 18:13

For the rolls you could try the small bagettes that Tesco (and other supermarkets) do. Probably half of one would be enough for a roll.

Dozer · 22/02/2020 18:13

Fun!

Costco might be a good option, depending on numbers.

nikkylou · 22/02/2020 18:13

Be cheeky, ask a local subway if you can buy some rolls! I think they're mostly franchises so if you have couple around maybe ask a different one if you get a no.

Otherwise, maybe a bakers will custom bake something if you can't find anything in the 'normal' shops.

Fillings, get different sauces. All the veggies.

Little slices of cheese and toast them on request.

Deli meats, go to deli counter at the supermarket and get a selection of naice meats in the quantity you're after.

Make a batch of meatballs only if you think theyll actually eat them.

Nachos and little pots for them.

Complete the experience by wrapping tight in paper, probably greaseproof paper is most similar.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 22/02/2020 18:13

Wrap in baking paper so they can eat whenever girls that age like to be in the house, I’m guessing far away from any adults

Sickofyoutube · 22/02/2020 18:22

Fab thank you!!

Great idea - you're making me hungry!

I'd have some other types of cheese as well as plain cheddar, and lots of sauces such as pesto, mayo (maybe also garlic mayo), mustard, Dolmio (or similar), harissa, humous, guacamole, taramasalata, cream cheese and chive, etc. Some of those could then also be used as dips for crisps.

Do you have a sandwich toaster or panini maker?

mumwon · 22/02/2020 18:35

you can buy sandwich fillings (cheating!) from most supermarkets already made up! & include pineapple! Brilliant idea! & already grated cheese (make life easy for yourself!)

mumwon · 22/02/2020 18:36

some subways do gluten free!!! (slightly off topic!)

TheSpottedZebra · 22/02/2020 18:38

Yes, agree with PP that he 1/2 french stick would be a good size. You could hollow them out a bit if you think they'd be too bready.

Hit up lidl or aldi for loads of sliced meats and cheeses, and ready made meatballs. Plus a jar of gherkins, pitted olives, and jalapeños, and maybe roasted red peppers (real Subway would be improved by these imho ).

Foslady · 22/02/2020 18:42

Brings back memories - we did a 5 Guys party food once - boy was that one popular!!!!
