We're at LAX and dh just realised he left his passport in hotel. We are going on internal flight which he does have ID for then flying back from LAX in a week to UK. Ant bright ideas.

Ring the hotel?

sleepismysuperpower1 · 17/02/2020 18:29

phone the hotel and see if they would be able to post it to the next place you are staying

ShyTown · 17/02/2020 18:32

Ring the hotel, ask them to keep it in their safe for you. Pick it up when you get back to LA. You’re very lucky he has ID for the internal flight!

Violetroselily · 17/02/2020 18:34

Surely contacting the hotel is your only option?

What other suggestions are you looking for Hmm

inwood · 17/02/2020 18:35

Hits is your only option. Quite frankly you're fucked otherwise.

namechange34 · 17/02/2020 18:35

Ask the hotel and get them stick it in a taxi to you at the airport, if there is enough time before your internal flight. If not, ask them to courier it to your next hotel.

PotteringAlong · 17/02/2020 18:37

Ring the hotel, get them to keep it, collect it next week?

Ghostontoast · 17/02/2020 18:43

He lost it but you have to locate it - why can’t he do the hotel calling arrangements?

Nandocushion · 17/02/2020 18:53

This is what FedEx is for. Alternatively, as a PP suggested get them to hold it for a week and pick it up when you're back in LA (if you have time before your international flight).

sparklefarts · 17/02/2020 19:02

Errr ring the hotel..?

AlexaAmbidextra · 17/02/2020 19:05

Well what do you think you should do?

MyuMe · 17/02/2020 19:07

Go back and get it.

My passport and money was stored in the hotel safe in South Africa

I set an alarm on my phone to take it out the safe and put in my bag the night before I was leaving

It isnt hard

FlamingoAndJohn · 17/02/2020 19:11

So you don’t need it to fly right now?

Will you have time to go back to the hotel from LAX before the flight to the U.K.?

Either you call the hotel and get them to keep hold of it before you go back and get it between the flights. Or you see of the airport can hold it for you somewhere.
Best chance is get a slightly earlier domestic flight to LAX, return to the hotel between flights and pick it up.

FaceClothParty · 17/02/2020 19:17

The hotel still haven't located it. He checked out teo days ago to meet me somewhere else. He is doing the contacting hotel.

The courier to next hotel sounds best option once they have located it.

Or if the xan hold on to it safely....uber to pick it up in 5 hour gap between internal and international flight next weekend. I was wondering if we could get it couriers to the aer lingus check in desk.

coconuttelegraph · 17/02/2020 19:19

Bright ideas in what context? I assume you've already contacted the hotel and made sure the passport is safe, if you don't need it for a week what do you need help with?

FaceClothParty · 17/02/2020 19:20

Bright ideas about couriering in the states really...

OP posts:
coconuttelegraph · 17/02/2020 19:21

X posted with you, I see what you are asking now. I'm not sure a check in desk is the best idea, it's not very safe. If the hotel haven't found it after 2 days you'll need to cancel it, anyone could have it now

FlamingoAndJohn · 17/02/2020 19:26

The hotel still haven’t found it?

Is he a U.K. citizen?
I might be talking out of my arse but I think you don’t need a passport to get back into your own country, just ID.
Call the UK embassy?

As said above, if they haven’t found it by now, it’s gone. Cancel it.

Have you contacted your insurer? Do you have Amex?

TSSDNCOP · 17/02/2020 19:27

Nice to give the OP a shooing when she’s asking for advice; it’s not as uncommon as people seem to think and there’d likely be someone that’s had a similar experience that could advise.

DH has his FedExd at his expense of course to his next hotel.

But, OP it looks like the bigger problem is actually that the passport is lost. Can you contact the Embassy for advice on an urgent replacement.

TSSDNCOP · 17/02/2020 19:28

Shoeing Hmm

QuantumEntanglement · 17/02/2020 19:37

If it went missing 10 days ago and the hotel still hasn't located it that doesn't sound good. I think now you need to be thinking about cancelling it and getting a replacement travel document for when he leaves the USA. Not sure if any other photo ID will get him through security for an international flight. Wherever you are flying to, is it a big enough city that there might be a consulate you can get to during your visit?

UhKevin · 17/02/2020 19:41

Flamingo absolutely no way are most countries letting people onto international flights with a driving licence or the like.

OP, I’m not being funny - genuinely - but have you called the embassy already...? It’s just from your posts you seem to assume it’s going to turn up at some point and I’d be working on the opposite assumption, surely. Hope for the best, plan for the worst and all that Confused

FaceClothParty · 17/02/2020 19:42

They’ve located it and are going to hang on to it till next Sunday. I think we should get it couriered to us. Dh intends to grab cab and go pick up before the flight home next week....it’s an hour round trip in LA traffic.

I might try and persuade him we come back to LA a day early.

Clymene · 17/02/2020 19:43

10 days ago??! It's gone. Call the embassy
