We're at LAX and dh just realised he left his passport in hotel. We are going on internal flight which he does have ID for then flying back from LAX in a week to UK. Ant bright ideas.

Is he a U.K. citizen?
I might be talking out of my arse but I think you don’t need a passport to get back into your own country, just ID.

I think you are correct, but it will be complicated and I suspect the bigger problem for the OP's husband will be getting on the flight out of the States without a passport...

I think a call to the Embassy/Consulate PDQ might be the best bet.
Call the UK embassy?

Oh missed the update.

Clymene · 17/02/2020 19:44

Cross posts. I'd get it couriered

UhKevin · 17/02/2020 19:47

Courier or back to LA early. Otherwise if your planned internal flight is late back then you’re screwed for the international return.

Morporkia · 17/02/2020 19:49

I would get it couriered to where he is now..and tell him to staple it to his forehead

Vagndidit · 17/02/2020 19:55

Wow--very lucky they've located it. I would pay good money to have it overnighted to wherever you're staying. Don't wait until you get back to L.A. I'd want the peace of mind to have it on hand.

FlamingoAndJohn · 17/02/2020 20:01

My only concern with getting it couriered is that you are adding another point of failure into the loop.

Get the hotel to keep it. He gets an Uber from LAX to the hotel before you fly to the U.K. then back to LAX.

FaceClothParty · 17/02/2020 20:04

I think I’ll just leave him to work it out,I’m getting the flight on Sunday whatever!

And yes to stapelling it to his forehead. Or his fore something. If it was me there’d have been no end of patronising me. I’ve been sweetness personified.

Won't he need it to register at the next place you're staying?

I'm a frequent traveller and always have to show my passport at check-in. They make a photocopy of it. (Just had this last week in 3 different countries).

Anyway, good luck with it all!

HoldMyLobster · 17/02/2020 20:50

I've never had to show anything other than a driver's license in the US to check in a hotel.

FaceClothParty · 18/02/2020 12:35

It’s in LA and w’re In Nevada. Luckily he had his driving licence to take the internal flight but the had to escort him through security. And luckily I had my driving livecnce as they wouldn’t hire the car to him without a passport.

When my friend's husband lost his UK passport in the US, they had to wait at the airport until someone from the Embassy brought him an emergency (gold coloured, I think) document to travel back with.
