Shepherds hut, hot tub or hotel?

which would you choose for a weekend away with your DP? Coastal hotel with great views ( no spa or pool) or a rural shepherts hut with its own hot tub?

I’m not keen on sitting in anyone else’s bathwater so hot tub would put me off right away. I’d be most interested in somewhere lovely that had a great restaurant nearby so I could have an amazing meal out that I didn’t have to cook.

ActualHornist · 16/02/2020 21:17

Hotel every time. Food and nice bed would be my priorities.

tiredsleepysleep · 16/02/2020 21:22

My rule is that it's not a holiday if you have to cook your own food.

isthistoonosy · 16/02/2020 21:29

hut everytime, but we've both stayed in a lot of hotels with our jobs, we are pretty antisocial and generally we are critical of hotel food. Come to think of it I guess that is why we just stay home!

aibutohavethisusername · 16/02/2020 21:29

Shepherd’s hut

cattaxi · 16/02/2020 21:31

Hotel - room service & relaxation. Much nicer than a dirty sex pond.

WisestIsShe · 16/02/2020 21:33

Shepherd hut. The same as @isthistoonosy
We prefer privacy and really don't rate a lot of other people's food 😂

Ughmaybenot · 16/02/2020 21:34

Shepherds hut. Fuck being around people 😂

funnylittlefloozie · 16/02/2020 21:35

Cant stand those "shepherds huts', but i do like a sex pond Grin. We tend to get a nice cottage when we go away, and private sex pond is one of my main criteria.

happycamper11 · 16/02/2020 21:37

Would probably depend on the area and time of year. I'd take a hotel in the highlands in February over the hut but in June in Devon I'd probably pick the hut

FizzyPink · 16/02/2020 21:38

I’ve been looking at shepherds huts recently but being so remote with not much to do does put me off. For something similar but much more luxurious take a look at Bethnal and Bec - my absolute favourite getaway we’ve ever done

CMOTDibbler · 16/02/2020 21:54

It would be the hut for me. We're going to a yurt tomorrow for the week as we like the quietness and having time to make food slowly

cowboy · 16/02/2020 21:56

shepherds huts are lovely but the one I stayed in had a truly awful, stinking compost loo - be warned! So I'd have to say hotel 😂

Leeds2 · 16/02/2020 23:05

Hotel, every time. Lovely bed, room service, hopefully a decent restaurant.
I don't like hot tubs though.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 16/02/2020 23:08

I stayed in a gorgeous, cosy shepherd's hut with a cockerel scratching about outside. All very lovely in the afternoon. Really not good when he started cockadoodledooing at 4am. For three hours.

TooDamnSarky · 16/02/2020 23:09

Shepherds huts are hell if you happen to be married to a snorer.

LynnSchmob · 16/02/2020 23:09

Compost loo? (Faints)

I’d go with the hotel - one with good room service.

paperdreams16 · 16/02/2020 23:11

Has anyone stayed in a shepherd’s hut around Essex, Kent or Suffolk that they could recommend?

dognamedspot · 16/02/2020 23:17

Hotel for sure. Well, to be honest I'd go for a different option - a nice self-catering place with some privacy. We don't self-cater much, eat out most of the time. We like to have somewhere scenic, but also nice facilities.

AdoreTheBeach · 17/02/2020 01:54

Hotel for sure. While I love a hot tub, DH does not.

The thought of an outdoor loo and manoeuvring through poor weather would put me right off the hut idea.

DonKeyshot · 17/02/2020 04:51

Hotel every time - the more stars the better. Coastal views alone would more than sway it for me and sitting in a murky hot tub in the middle of nowhere is not my idea of a good time.

If I couldn't afford to stay in a hotel I'd rather stay at home as self-catering is not a break from the usual grind.

GrockleRock · 17/02/2020 04:54

Can we stop pimping up the shepherds hut, its a shed with a bed!Grin

Hotel OP Wine

hibiscuslightening · 17/02/2020 11:28

Thanks folks. The shepherds hut in question apparently has a wood fuelled hot tub which would be prepared for us ( does that include fresh water?) and the ‘shepherds hut’ has an en suite! The hotel is only 3 star...

Does anyone know how big the beds are in a Shepherds hut? I worry they might be too short for 6’ DH?

I do like the idea of not cooking, as we always self cater as a family. But I don’t mind throwing a few things together? Hmmm, what a nice dilemma to have!

I would prefer the hotel and DP would prefer the shepherds hut. We stayed in a luxury treehouse thing recently and that was amazing

Mirrorxx · 17/02/2020 11:40

@Caramel78 would you mind saying where you found the treehouse? Thanks
