How many pairs of shoes does your 8 year old (DD) have?

preponderings · 15/02/2020 15:44

DD currently has:
crocs for home/garden
wellies
winter boots
gym shoes (indoor)
and hiking boots.
(Oh, and a pair of party shoes MIL insisted on buying her, which she has worn twice Hmm )

Until now she's always had a pair of goretex shoes, like these from superfit, as her every day shoes.

Pair of sandals for the summer.

When they do sport at school, I've always sent her with her everyday shoes. She's just joined a sports club and they will do athletics outdoors in the summer. Does this mean I need to plan to get her a pair of sports trainers as well? It seems a bit crazy for her to have so many shoes but I don't know if she'll need shoes with a softer, more flexible sole for sport.

DC7 has

Football boots
Soft sole running trainers for park run and sport at school (cricket/hockey/etc)
Every day trainers (the other ones are usually muddy)
Crocs
Sandals
Wellies
Hiking boots
Snow boots
Flip flops
Smart brogues (rarely worn)
Slippers

pollyputthepastaon · 15/02/2020 15:48

Yes I’d say sports trainers with flexible sole are essential.

Lipperfromchipper · 15/02/2020 15:52

Dd 7 has
Wellies
Trainers
School shoes...

Yep that’s it...no need for much else really Confused

Winter boots
Trainers
Sandals
Wellies
Party shoes
Plimsolls for school
Dance shoes x 3 pairs (ballet, character and tap)

No 'school shoes', as her school doesn't have a uniform

Elbeagle · 15/02/2020 15:53

Mine is only 6 but she has a pair of trainers for outdoor sports, plimsolls for indoor PE, party shoes, winter boots, some smarter trainer type things for home, wellies and sandals.

Elbeagle · 15/02/2020 15:54

Oh and ballet, tap and jazz shoes.

Elbeagle · 15/02/2020 15:54

And school shoes!

Coffeeandcrumpet · 15/02/2020 16:03

School shoes, nice boots trainers and wellies, she will have some sandals in summer too. Oh she has dance shoes too. Trainers seem pretty essential to me.

steppemum · 15/02/2020 16:08

we always used to have:
school shoes
trainers
wellies
crocs /flip flops in the summer
sandals in summer
pe shoes for school
sometimes they had a smarter pair of shoes

happycamper11 · 15/02/2020 16:11

Dd2 age 7 has an insane amount of shoes because she inherits as well as me buying but I do think sorts trainers are needed. We do park run and some running events though. She has -

Wellies
Snow/hiking boots
Doc martens for school and day to day wear
running trainers
High tops (sketchers)
Awful fake ugg boots that she loves
Converse shoes
Sandals - smart and beach versions

I've been blessed with dc with slow growing feet so get plenty wear

happycamper11 · 15/02/2020 16:12

Add these are what I've bought not the others that are kicking about

DobbyTheHouseElk · 15/02/2020 16:14

Trainers for school
Trainers for home
School shoes
Crocs
Football boots for school.
Slippers

Paddingtonthebear · 15/02/2020 16:16

7yr old DD has:

Two pairs of trainers at home
Pair of PE trainers kept at school
Suede fur lined winter boots
Wellies
Leather ankle boots for school
Slippers

BrokenWing · 15/02/2020 16:24

At 7 ds would have had

3 pairs of trainers suitable for school, home and dog walking
Wellies for dog walking
2 x footie boots (one astro and one blades)
Pair of trainers left in school for pe

At least 2 pairs of trainers will be all black for school and these would be washed and used for anything smart. I don't buy smart shoes for a one off event. If he goes to a close family wedding we hire a full kilt including shoes.

LER83 · 15/02/2020 16:24

Dd 7
School boots
School shoes
School trainers for inside pe
School trainers for outdoor pe
Ugg style boots
Ankle boots
2 x trainers
2 x slippers
Wellies
Canvas type shoes
2x handles for summer
2x flip flops
She wears all of them. Her feet grow slowly so they last a while.

MinkowskisButterfly · 15/02/2020 16:32

Dd2 is 5 has:

Trainers (fashion rather than sport)
School shoes
2 x wellies (1 left at school)
Party shoes
Plimsols at school
Ankle boots

Also has tap and ballet shoes but they dont count

She will have sandals and flip flops in the summer

Lipperfromchipper · 15/02/2020 16:42

I am Shock at the amount of shoes and shuddering at the thought of having to store them or keep them tidy!! I am really a minimalist at heart!! 🤣🙈

TheGreatWave · 15/02/2020 16:43

School shoes
Boots
Trainers
Wellies
School trainers.

Then she has things like croc type shoes for slipping on to go into the garden and a little pair of slip on shoes.

DinosApple · 15/02/2020 16:46

My 9yo has 4 pairs: winter boots (school), wellies and sports trainers. In the summer she also uses Sainsbury's crocs and the winter boots are replaced with school shoes.

My 11yo has 6 pairs: walking boots (req. for a school trip) and converse type boots too.

In addition to these they both keep a pair of trainers and wellies at school. Neither do sandals or flip flops.

In your circumstances I'd probably get some sporty trainers too.

Mumof1andacat · 15/02/2020 16:49

Ds 7 has wellies, school shoes, trainers and p.e trainers kept at school. Never been able get him to wear flip flops or sandals. We dont do hiking and theres no need for snow boots.

reluctantbrit · 15/02/2020 16:50

School shoes and school trainers (staying in school in PE kit)
Trainers for at home
Shoes for at home like Mary Janes as she mostly wore dresses
Hiking boots
Winter boots or sandals
Riding boots
Slippers
I don’t think she owned wellies at that age anymore.

Pinkvici22 · 15/02/2020 16:54

DD7 has:

School shoes x2
Ballet shoes
Boots x4
Slippers
Party shoes x4 (maybe 5)
Sandals x4
Sliders x2
Wellies
Trainers (running)
Trainers (white trendy ones!)
Dressing up shoes x2

I think that’s it...which I realise is a lot!
She has quite slow growing feet and generally gets pretty good wear out of all her shoes.

reefedsail · 15/02/2020 17:03

9yo DS has:

school shoes
crocs
casual trainers
sports trainers
rugby boots
sailing boots
slippers

Really he also needs some winter boots but for some reason he didn't end up with any this year. He's nearly the same shoe size as me so he wears my wellies when necessary.

He tells me he needs 'astros' for hockey, but I am ignoring him- what even are they??

inwood · 15/02/2020 17:07

Way too many!

School shoes
School trainers
Football boots
Ankle boots
Wellies
Home trainers
Cowboy boots
Keds
Converse
Canvas pumps
Crocs
Party shoes - sparkly pumps
Dressy shoes - patent buckles

Bluewavescrashing · 15/02/2020 17:11

School shoes
School trainers in PE bag

Crocs for garden/beach in summer
Sandals in summer
Ugg boots (handed down from cousin)
