How many pairs of shoes does your 8 year old (DD) have?

preponderings · 15/02/2020 15:44

DD currently has:
crocs for home/garden
wellies
winter boots
gym shoes (indoor)
and hiking boots.
(Oh, and a pair of party shoes MIL insisted on buying her, which she has worn twice Hmm )

Until now she's always had a pair of goretex shoes, like these from superfit, as her every day shoes.

Pair of sandals for the summer.

When they do sport at school, I've always sent her with her everyday shoes. She's just joined a sports club and they will do athletics outdoors in the summer. Does this mean I need to plan to get her a pair of sports trainers as well? It seems a bit crazy for her to have so many shoes but I don't know if she'll need shoes with a softer, more flexible sole for sport.

School shoes and 2x indoor plimsoles kept at school and after school.
School gym trainers
Casual boots
Winter snow boots (no wellies at the moment)
Trainers - home also used for sport
Crocs
Party shoes
Ballet shoes (do they count?)

Love51 · 15/02/2020 17:16

Wellies, school shoes, trainers, sandals (for anything she has to dress up for). Also back pe pumps.
I was considering getting her some boots, but she loves her trainers so it wasn't needed. This seems like the minimum, which is crazy for a young kid.

Lucindainthesky · 15/02/2020 17:16

DD8 has at the moment

School shoes
PE trainers
Trainers
Doc marten style boots

In the summer she will have a couple of pairs of sandals, one practical every day pair and a more dressy pair.

When DD1 was that age she had loads of shoes. She loved shoes. She still does only she pays now Grin

When DD2 was that age she had one pair. She is Autistic and wears the same pair of boots for everything. Still does.

SlayingDragons · 15/02/2020 22:03

My 9yr old DTs have:

  • school shoes
  • 2x sports trainers
  • converse hi tops
  • white adidas (not for sports)
  • uggs
  • black boots (these were used for school last year in winter but their new school doesn’t allow boots so they just wear them outside of school)
  • ankle boots

I think that's it, so 8 pairs each. In the summer they will likely add a couple of pairs of ballet flats.

In their defence their feet grow pretty slowly (hence why last year’s school boots still fit and they are now on their 3rd winter in their uggs)

The ballet flats they have don’t last because I tend to buy cheapy ones from M&S or Next rather than decent quality and they wear out by the end of the summer

Ok, so it would be within the normal range then! I make her bring her sports kit home each week as I refuse to buy her an extra pair of gym shoes for one hour a week.

OP posts:
Lipperfromchipper · 16/02/2020 10:49

Mine just run around bare foot when at home tbh 🤣

Elbeagle · 16/02/2020 11:15

Mine are always barefoot in the house. By trainers ‘for home’ I just mean as opposed to ‘for school’. So they wear them for walks/jogs/bike rides/to friends houses/to play in the garden etc.
