I was obsessed with Buffy when I was younger, especially Giles. I used to tell my dad I would marry ASH one day, don’t know what it was about him. I am 30 now and just watched ‘the stranger’ on Netflix and all those old celebrity crush feelings came rushing back Grin
He’s so charismatic, I love watching interviews with him. Every time I read those celeb meeting threads people always say he’s lovely too.
Just thought I would share my appreciation for him in the hope I am not alone!

I was afraid something had happened to him for a second!

I'm also rewatching Buffy. And I've watched the musical episode so many times. Love listening to him sing.

Met him a couple of years ago in London after a play. I'm in a wheelchair and he came out for a five minute chat in the house before going to stage door. Because it would be easier for me. He is absolutely lovely.

I fancy his bloody pants off

NYnachos · 07/02/2020 16:41

I have met him Smile. He was very nice (not like some other celebs...)

THAT'S where he's from! I just watched The Stranger and couldn't remember what he was from! (Not a Buffy fan, obviously 😁)

Thescrewinthetuna · 07/02/2020 16:44

How has like every mumsnetter met him, there’s always a tonne of comments saying how lovely he is. I didn’t appreciate him in Buffy the first time round (I was very young and in love with Spike) but I rewatched it all when my DS was little and I was Team Giles all the way. Just started watching The Stranger, he’s still got it

Nancydrawn · 07/02/2020 16:48

OneThingAndThenTheNext ditto. Every time I see a famous name on its own, I assume either the person has died or has done something very, very bad.

Eeek.

User12879923378 · 07/02/2020 16:54

I know it's radio but if you're an ASH fan you must listen to Bleak Expectations. It's brilliant and he sounds just as lovely as he looks. Oh and he's in Cabin Pressure too because he is in all the best things. God, I love him.

Tombakersscarf · 07/02/2020 16:59

In the Stranger he was just credited as Anthony Head. Has he dropped the Stewart then?

User12879923378 · 07/02/2020 17:09

I think he used to be Tony Head in the UK and then there was some American Equity issue that meant he had to use his middle name over there.

ammarry · 07/02/2020 17:09

Why is no one mentioning his long stint on Merlin as Uther Pendragon.

So charismatic on that.

BIWI · 07/02/2020 17:14

He was brilliant in Merlin! So sad when he died. (in Merlin, obviously!)

He was on last week's Off Menu Podcast, with Ed Gamble/James Acaster, and worth a listen.

SundaySalon · 07/02/2020 17:18

I need to go away and watch some of the other things he’s in. At the minute I am YouTubing all his interviews. Is merlin good? Or is he just good in it? I am not above skipping through to his bits.

I am intrigued about the team Giles posters? I always thought it was team angel or team spike and Giles was very much everyone’s cup of tea? Is this because of the tension in the last season between Giles and Spike?

OP posts:
wildcherries · 07/02/2020 17:19

It's an old interview. But his laugh gets me.

Funnyfive · 07/02/2020 17:25

He lives down the road from me, knew him really well for a while, he came to my wedding, babysat for his kids etc - he is really lovely and so is his wife.

GothMummy · 07/02/2020 17:25

OP you had me scared then I thought something awful had happened to him!

SundaySalon · 07/02/2020 17:27

@Funnyfive ehm... and you live where? Grin

Apologies to those who thought he had died! I should have put a more descriptive title.

Littlegoth · 07/02/2020 17:31

I met him. He was lovely.

Someone at work did some training with his wife (she teaches something called T Touch for horses) at their home farm. She thought he was lovely too :)

Corneysjazzband · 07/02/2020 17:35

So pleased someone else suggested the radio series Bleak Expectations. He was fantastic as the evil nemesis Mr Gently Benevolent. Possibly even better than as Giles the librarian....

CaptainCallisto · 07/02/2020 17:49

I accidentally hit him around the head with a guitar on Bath Spa station (tripped up the stairs running for a train). He was utterly lovely about it - much more concerned about whether I'd hurt myself than his head bump. I missed my train but it was totally worth it Grin

thedevilinablackdress · 07/02/2020 17:55

YouTube him singing. So good.

BIWI · 07/02/2020 17:58

Merlin is brilliant! All 5 series now available on iPlayer and Netflix.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 07/02/2020 18:03

Merlin is generally excellent.

I'm one of the ones who's met him - at the stage door after seeing him in Pirates of Penzance. He kissed my mum, who I'd taken for her birthday treat, and then gave me a kiss too because I felt left out Grin

He was utterly lovely.

TwoHeadedYellowBelliedHoleDig · 07/02/2020 18:04

Don't forget Cabin Pressure - 'and I see from your uniform you've become a Bolivian tank commander'

HeidiHoNeighbour · 07/02/2020 18:25

Around 1990ish I went to a wedding and he was a few rows ahead of me.

He was holding his very young baby and when we stood for the bride, baby was sick in a perfect line down his suit jacket and trouser leg.

He noticed, wiped babies face and shrugged with a smile.

Suddenly way more attractive.

Minesril · 07/02/2020 18:35

'Do you want me to wag my finger at you and tell you that you acted rashly? You did, and I can... I know that you loved him. And he... has proven more than once that he loved you. You couldn't have known what would happen... The coming months are gonna be hard... I suspect on all of us. But... if it's guilt you're looking for, Buffy, I'm not your man. All you will get from me is, is my support... and my respect.'
