People who have pictures of themselves all over their houses.

I have never asked why as it is judgy isn’t it so I’m asking you all, why do people do this.
Especially those that are obviously professionally done, all misty around the edges, there’s usually feathers and off the shoulder outfit with heavy makeup making them look somewhat dragqueen like.
Pictures of them self up the stairs, huge ones in the living room with lots of smaller ones. No other family members, just themselves.

Or those awful painted or hand drawn ones that are just awful, why does that look amazing to one person but makes another shudder?

I’m old, I’ve been in many many homes, lots and lots and it always surprises me as it’s a lot, loads and loads of people have these.
Curious that’s all.
Not saying they can’t do or have what they want in their own homes...blah blah blah, just curious.

Oh @DontDribbleOnTheCarpet your DH isn't being very kind.

So you have a Max Spielmann that does portraits near you?

If you do or something like it then maybe get some pictures done of you with the child and a Mother's Day gift to yourself, it's not like your DH can complain!!

Lilopup · 07/02/2020 13:15

A woman I used to work with gifted her niece a life size plaster cast of herself... Confused. I always wondered what the niece did with that

Butterflyflower1234 · 07/02/2020 13:24

It's called self love, some of you should try it some time.

I assume you have pictures of your children, family members, pet why, because you love them so why not have reminders of yourself in your own home?

I have lots of photos of me in my house. They are not professional ones but lots with family, friends, from my travels because I love looking at each pictures and being reminded of a happy moment.

Crazybunnylady123 · 07/02/2020 13:29

I just have photos and canvas pictures in our bedroom of our daughter and one of me and dp together. No where else in the house.

DollyDaydream70 · 07/02/2020 13:34

I don't have any photographs of myself up in my flat. I have a couple of my Sons and my Mum, and then I have about 50 of Marilyn Monroe.. It takes all sorts!

user1471449295 · 07/02/2020 13:39

I’ve got a friend who has professional photos of herself everywhere too. Bit arrogant I think

Damntheman · 07/02/2020 13:40

@Lilopup I NEED to know where she ordered that life size cast of herself from! I forsee an epic prank on my best friend coming up :D

Cookit · 07/02/2020 13:40

I have lots of family photos up (framed). I love seeing family photos from over the years dotted around.

I’ve honestly never seen anyone have photos of just themselves up on the wall like you’re describing though.

Zebracat · 07/02/2020 13:43

I have a portrait of myself. My dearest friend is an artist and gave it me for my birthday. I hate it, no photos anywhere in my house, and now I’m stuck with this thing , that I do display, because she would be really hurt if I didn’t. She is at least a very good artist.

justasking111 · 07/02/2020 13:44

Well.... a mahoosive oil painting of the family done by a friend of DS who is now famous. We keep that in the hall. Other than that pics of DC`s in the bedroom, the bulk of pics in the sitting room are of DCs and GCs. I am in one picture.

Pipandmum · 07/02/2020 13:46

I have a selection of the kids with their late father printed on canvas from when they were young, mainly from holiday snaps, up in the kitchen. It's an informal space and they capture a lovely time in their lives, and it always makes me (and hopefully my children) think about their dad each time I look at them. I'm thinking of adding a couple more recent ones from their half brothers wedding. I'm not in any of them.
Whether you display them or not people don't print ouf enough photos these days - I have thousands on my phone and computer that are never looked at. I do a photo calendar each year of the best pics.

bluebellation · 07/02/2020 13:47

I have several photos in nice frames dotted about the place. They're mainly of my DDs, one of whom died a few years ago and the other lives abroad, so I like to see their smiling faces as I go about my day. If visitors don't like them, tough.

HowlsMovingBungalow · 07/02/2020 13:47

No photos of anyone here.
If I want to remind myself of what I look like, there is a mirror in the bathroom.

Etinox · 07/02/2020 14:06

@RJnomore1
“The canvas ones of the family lying lined up on their stomachs with bare feet in the air particularly irk me. There is no reason for that but they still do.”
Lying down photos are when the family are, ahem, inconveniently sized.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 07/02/2020 14:13

those Venture style photos are awful and wtf do they always have bare feet?! Bare feet are not attractive. There’s an example of one here:

FFS, one of the girls isn't even looking at the camera! Hmm

JemSynergy · 07/02/2020 14:14

I love photos and have lots of the children around the house on shelves and a few on the wall..I also have some wedding photos on show. I love having photos displayed and I do look at them a lot.

CoffeeChocolateWine · 07/02/2020 14:26

I have a friend who has photos of herself up all over the house. She has lots of photos on the wall generally of her children and other family but they are outweighed by photos of herself and like you describe, they are photos that she’s had professionally done. Slightly awkwardly, she has a very large naked pregnancy photos (in fact two side by side) up in her lounge. I never used to know where to look but I’ve got used to it now as I go to her house a lot!

What can I say, I love her dearly...but not as much as she loves herself!

ClientQueen · 07/02/2020 14:37

People always say this though
"Oh she loves herself"
Yeah, what on earth is wrong with that?!

LER83 · 07/02/2020 14:39

I've got a couple of wedding photos around and some of the children, but none of just me. But I know someone who I wouldn't put it paste to have a whole wall dedicated to herself. I remember looking through her wedding photos and there must of been about 5 of her and her husband, the rest was just her in various seductive poses - laying on the floor with legs up walls etc. Was really weird and felt like I was looking at a catalogue as opposed to someone's wedding photos!

RedRed9 · 07/02/2020 15:10

I’ve got a friend who has professional photos of herself everywhere too. Bit arrogant I think
^ Are you sure she’s a friend because you don’t sound like a great one yourself.

Why does it matter to you if she has photos of herself up? Can’t you just be happy that’s she’s happy rather than call her arrogant?

RedRed9 · 07/02/2020 15:10

Totally agree @ClientQueen

ClientQueen · 07/02/2020 15:20

Just makes me cross. Yes I have a photo, I look banging in it. When I'm 80 it'll be nice to look back on. I get given the images for free to use
I spent years hating myself, my mother tells me how ugly and obese I am and how clothes don't suit me, how glasses look awful, how such a person looks "lovely and slim and smart" and on and on and on
Sometimes I hate myself but doing shoots and being paid really helps as well as seeing lovely photos

Lilopup · 07/02/2020 15:25

@Damntheman if only I knew, there were so many questions I had for that woman lol

CoffeeChocolateWine · 07/02/2020 15:26

People always say this though
"Oh she loves herself"
Yeah, what on earth is wrong with that?!

I didn’t say there was anything wrong with it...I think it’s great to love yourself, but honestly, I don’t, so it seems ‘weird’ to me as I could never imagine putting photos of myself up everywhere. No thanks.

But I do also think the naked pregnancy shoot photos should have gone in their bedroom. It’s their house so they can do as they like but if I was their child I think I would find it a bit cringe to see naked photos of my Mum on the wall!

PhoneLock · 07/02/2020 15:29

I don't understand when people have pictures of their own children in public areas of their house

How many houses have public areas in them?

Apart from public houses, obviously.
