Where has my toddler put my house keys?!

Argggh I've been looking all day. I came in yesterday afternoon with them, haven't seen them since.
Under the sofa - no
Washing machine - no
In bed - no
On her bookshelf - no.... etc etc.

Of course I could have misplaced them myself but I rarely lose anything so unlikely.

Ahhhhh

inside the play kettle

Missing things are always found outside having been posted through the cat flap by the toddler.

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 03/02/2020 19:18

My dd used to put things like keys in her little hand bags, pencil cases. If she has dolls are they in her doll pram hood! In her toy kitchen if she has one.
I basically learned that if something if mine went missing it would be DD using it as a toy. So keys would be in her 'play version' of where I would put them!

Thank you everyone for your tales of missing items that have reappeared and suggestions of where to look.
I FOUND THEM! She'd put them in an outside pocket of my work bag. I know it was her because I always put my keys in a different pocket inside my bag, and she loves getting things out this particular outside pocket as she can reach it.

I might need to get a padlock for my bag so she can't get them out again Grin

I have this large glass jar with a very narrow opening just big enough to put coins in. Today, my toddler posted my absolute favourite and quite expensive “posh” pen into. Not getting that back!

Uh huh. Wink I'll believe you, OP. Thousands wouldn't.

Glad you found them.

That's adorable

Toddler took DH's keys last year. Searched for a week, no luck. Was just about to suck it up and ring the council to pay for another set when I noticed something poking at the bottom of the train track set. Another time, I found mine down the toilet, tucked right at the back. Little bugger. Good luck OP, toddlers should be recruited to the SAS for their ability to hide things in the most random, unlikely places.

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 03/02/2020 21:26

Behind the radiator? My eldest used to “post” things in the vhs player! I was always unplugging it to poke things out with a knifeGrin

ShesGotBetteDavisEyes · 03/02/2020 21:27

Aw - just saw you found them - she obvs wants to be like mummy!

billy1966 · 03/02/2020 21:38

Check out any plants. We had a phone stuffed into a large bushy house plant and it was pure luck we found it after 2 days.

Rightsaidmabel · 03/02/2020 21:48

Did anyone else see the recent program of 4 actress "Dames" reminiscing? Dame Jan Plowright,Maggie Smith ,Judy Dench etc.
They were remembering when their children were small and chuckling about the time when the small son of Joan Plowright and Sir Laurence Olivier had hidden a vital set of keys. They were quite unkind at the memory of one of the theatre's greatest Lords pleading: "Now where have you put the key to Daddy's num nums?"The Drinks Cabinet!

Cakeandmarshmallows · 03/02/2020 21:49

I am glad they have been found. Think it's already been said, but out the car flap and in the toddler car often in the lift up seat are popular with my toddler for many things, particularly keys!

Now if anyone can suggest where he may have put his dads large gold ring (that he was silly enough to leave in reach) I would be very grateful and so would his daddy!

Blackbear19 · 03/02/2020 21:57

Gold ring. Look in toy till or on the wardrobe floor!

sproutsandparsnips · 03/02/2020 22:06

I used to find everything under the seat of his ride on.

InvisibleToEveryone · 03/02/2020 22:21

One of mine always put keys in a lock.

Any key, any lock, right or, more often, wrong keyhole.

Kind of made it a bit easier to locate missing keys.

GinnyStrupac · 04/02/2020 02:03

Glad they turned up, OP. We are currently missing the house phone handset, if anyone can help with that?! It was days before we realised because in these mobile times it rarely gets used. We can't page it from the base because when we try it remains quiet, so the battery on the handset must have run down. We can hear people are ringing us because the base rings, but we can't answer. They will think we're ignoring them - hopefully it's nothing urgent. It would be nice not to have to buy a new phone.

redbirdblackbird · 04/02/2020 02:25

Do you have a toy kitchen? Everything goes into the oven in our house!

Erismorn · 04/02/2020 02:35

Glad you found them OP

@Cakeandmarshmallows in the toilet cistern. This may be where my dad found my mum's engagement ring, several years after they had given up looking for it I may also, on a separate occasion, have hidden her gold watch there

GinnyStrupac · 05/02/2020 02:31

Pleased to report the phone also turned up. It was in an empty wicker Christmas gift hamper. I was not responsible for the phone but I just might have been responsible for the empty chocolate box found with the phone.
