This has stuck in my head for years. When I was about 10 we did about Egypt at school and in a group we painted a life size Mummy in lovely colours and I got to take it home. It was lamainted and attached to my bedroom wall (not sure what with) and was there for over a year. One night me and my mum watched a documentary on Egypt and curses before going to bed. That night the mummy on my wall fell down and landed on me in bed Shock it haunted me for months! Obviously a complete coincidence but still Grin

The night before several people who are close to me die, I get woken by the sound of a pebble being thrown at my window.Sad

lizzzyyliveson · 02/02/2020 15:10

I used to see a (pareidolia) face in the wooden floorboards in my bedroom. At first it was a knight in armour and then it seemed like it was my ex smiling up at me but then one day it turned into a grinning skull. I could still see my ex in the face but the skull upset me so I covered it up. Later on I heard from a friend that my ex had passed away. Still makes me shiver.

Years ago I lived in a basement flat. Pretty standard set up for that city in that our front door opened onto a communal hall with the door to the street at the front and the door to the backgarden/bins/washing line at the back. We had a long straight hall from the kitchen to our front door. If you stood in the back garden you could look in the window into our kitchen and up to our front door.

One night I was pottering about in the kitchen, getting ready to go out, chatting away to my flatmates about where I was going, etc. There was a bit of a clatter out the back but there were foxes and cats about so no one thought anything of it.
I left the flat and heard running footstep. I turned round to see a man running down the lane from our back towards me so I jumped backed into our building, locked the door and called the police. There had been a series of rapes in the area so they came out asap. They had a poke about and said it looked like someone had recently been lying in the long grass out the back.

The next day there was a photo fit in the paper, made by one of the women who had been attacked - it was the guy I had seen the night before. Who had been lying in my garden watching me through my kitchen window. It still makes my flesh creep, thinking about it.

Once while cleaning the floor on my hands and knees an orange Opal Fruit landed in my head.
I was home alone.
It was the start of many things..

I think I’ve put this on here before, although possibly under a different name.

I was walking down a street I hadn’t walked down before and I noticed a brass plaque by door saying piano lessons and giving the name and qualifications of the teacher. Seeing it gave me a sudden vivid flashback to having piano lessons as a child. The teacher with a beard, knitted tie and bad breath who stood slightly too close. The look of the room, half drawn blind, the bust of Beethoven, metronome, music books on shelves. The smell of old fried food in the air and the distant sound of the TV from the back room where the teacher’s children were. The whole image was instant and very clear.

What was creepy about all this? It wasn’t my memory, I’ve never had a piano lesson in my life. I have no idea what was going on, it’s never happened to me before or since and I can’t explain it.

My DP dreamt about an uncle she hadn’t seen or heard of since she was a child (parents were divorced and the uncle was on the side of the family that lost touch after the divorce). Woke up and told me about the dream.

During the day the phone rings and she immediately goes “It’s Uncle X”.

It was her mum telling her that he had passed away.

I have a not completely outlandish, but fairly unusual first name.

I was in a town a long way from home and someone called out to me by name. When I turned round to speak to them, I didn't recognise them but that's not unusual as I meet a lot of people through work and it's sometimes hard to place them out of context.

Anyway, he repeated "first name another surname" I said sorry, that's not me, he apologised he was mistaken and we went our separate ways.

But he did get my first name right and I've only ever met one other person who has it.

raspberrycordial · 02/02/2020 15:48

I was only thinking about this today-not creepy as such but a huge coincidence...on my birthday last year, I was walking the dog early morning. This is the same walk I do nearly every day, the same route-not always at the same time. As I got to the bottom of the farmer's field, there was a half deflated foil balloon, once filled with helium and it said 'happy birthday'. It had obviously broken free and come down in that place-it hadn't been obviously left there if you see what I mean. So in the 9 years that I've walked that route, a balloon travels and lands where I'll find it on my birthday-I like to think it was a message sent by someone who was very special to me.

Living in a flat in north London, things started disappearing from the kitchen drawers, really commonly used things like wooden spoons. I’d buy more and go to put it away but find the missing spoons back in the drawer. Tops would fly off bottles of Ribena, we found other things crushed out on the steps leading to the garden. My mum was really freaked out by finding various things like this. There was no way for anyone to access the garden from outside of the flat.

Name changed for this
I was admitted to a psychiatric hospital as I was paranoid psychotic. One of my fears was being stalked by a certain group of people. The first time I looked out the window there was a visitors sticker that had landed on my window sill from someone who probably threw it off when they left.

To this day can still remember how I felt when I saw that sticker. It was horrifying.

Shameless place marking Halo

Lou0390 · 02/02/2020 16:02

When I was much younger I lived in a very old and slightly creepy farmhouse. I was putting some clothes away and my little cat who had been fast asleep on my bed suddenly jumped up growled and hissed, next thing my books were thrown onto the floor. Always had an uneasy/sad feeling that house.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 02/02/2020 16:03

Also shameless place marking! Loves woo thread

lucysmam · 02/02/2020 16:36

Oooh, last time there was one of these threads, someone linked to a long running Digital Spy thread full of creepy tales...I've since changed phone & no longer have it open.

I'll see if I can find it to link; it kept me busy for ages reading it!

lucysmam · 02/02/2020 16:39

this one and then there's part 2.

SapphosRock · 02/02/2020 16:48

DP and I were discussing where to go on holiday in the same room as our DD who was almost 2.

We'd gone through a few destinations when DP suggested Thailand. DD suddenly started shrieking 'no no no no no! No Thailand no Thailand'

'Why?' We asked her. Her reply...

'Tsunami'

In 2018 my mum and dad rented an AirBnB for all us (them, their 3 kids and partners) and my baby was about 14 weeks old at the time. It was a huge Victorian town house. As soon as we arrived I just couldn't really settle, but put it down to the fact I was a bit frantic from the long car journey with a young baby, and everyone was being really loud so I'd keep taking my baby up to our room to feed him.

I was sat on the bed trying to feed my son and he kept looking past me into the corner of the room and smiling and giggling, in a way he only really did when people were looking at and playing with him. It really freaked me out, to the point I told my husband I didn't want to sleep in that room and made him move the travel cot as I was going to sleep in one of the lounge areas with him. I'm generally quite sceptical, and always look for alternative explanations but this really freaked me out.

After a nice family evening I managed to persuade myself I was being silly, the three of uswent to bed in the bedroom, though I was a bit scared when got up in the night to feed him, sat in the pitch dark.

The next morning we were reading the 'history of the house' the AirBnB host had left; yup, mother and baby had died in the house.

HerRoyalFattyness · 02/02/2020 17:03

When I was a kid we were sat in the living room watching TV one autumn night. I can't remember what we were watching, but we were engrossed and it had gone dark, but my parents hadn't yet closed the curtains.
I got up to get a drink from the kitchen and saw a man stood in the window. I screamed and the man moved to the side and hid in the rose bush. My parents asked what was up so I said "there's a man, he was watching us"
They laughed it off and I insisted they look. My dad agreed and I followed him outside.
He took a torch. On the grass was a set of footprints only going one way. Towards the window. My dad sent me inside and checked the bush and the hedges but found no-one.
He must have found a gap in the hedge and got out through the neighbours garden.
I've no idea how.long the man was watching us.for or who is was.

Pywife2 · 02/02/2020 17:11

Place marking for this one. The real people ones staring in the windows are scarier than the ghostly ones.

TheMemoryLingers · 02/02/2020 17:16

Ahhhh, nothing like a bit of woo on a Sunday afternoon!

peachgreen · 02/02/2020 17:33

The next morning we were reading the 'history of the house' the AirBnB host had left; yup, mother and baby had died in the house.

What kind of AirBnB host includes the death of a mother and her baby in history of a property?! Like, next to the number for the local chippy and directions to the nearest National Trust property?! Confused

I was away on holiday with friends for the first time as a teenager. Had a horrible nightmare where my younger brother fell on some train tracks and died - I had to identify his body and the tracks had burned his leg and arm in a very distinct shape. Phoned my mum the next day and she told me he'd fallen off his bike that morning and got bad friction burns. When I got home the burns were in exactly the same shape as in my dream. Even though my brain tells me it was coincidence + my brain playing tricks on me, it still creeps me out a little bit.

Blinkme · 02/02/2020 17:33

Years ago, a ring had gone missing in my grandmother's house.

It was her mothers and she wore it every day. She took it off at night and left it with her other rings on the shelf beside her bed.

One morning, she woke up and the ring was gone. All the other ones were there but my great grans one wasnt. She was really upset, it meant a lot and we literally took the carpets up looking for it thinking it may have been knocked off the shelf and down behind the skirting board, we searched the room the house and it was nowhere to be seen. We all agreed that she had perhaps lost it earlier elsewhere and just thought that the ring had disappeared.

A few weeks later, on Christmas eve, we could smell chanel in the house really strongly alongside the smell of fruit pastilles exactly like my great grandmother used to smell. We all shared some memories and we headed home.

Next morning, my gran woke up to find the ring on the shelf, dusty, exactly where she left it. It was like it had never been gone and to this day we can't explain it

StormBaby · 02/02/2020 17:46

I've got loads of creepy stories and I can never remember which ones I've shared and which ones I haven't.
I grew up in a haunted house, it was all quite minor, things would move from where they were right under your nose, then reappear. The TV would change channel on its own, dark shadows would move in the hallway. The one time I remember being really scared was when I was home alone, aged about 14, I went upstairs to the toilet and as I passed the hallway window it was fogged up and I absentmindedly drew a big smiley face on it. As I left the bathroom, literally minutes later, 'somebody' had written 'Hi' underneath it in the condensation. I ran to the neighbours house until my mum got home!

I was running an event that involved stall holders. Some of the stall holders were tarot readers. One of them had asked me a question earlier and I told her I would get back to her.

I had some time so went over to her table where she was deeply engrossed in a reading with a man. He was looking at her while she was looking down, I assumed in deep thought. I stood behind them, waiting for them to notice me, unsure if I should interrupt. Someone called out to me, I answered their question and when I turned back, the man was gone.

The tarot reader was looking up at me and smiling, wondering what I wanted. I asked her where the man had gone and she said that she had been alone the whole time.

mynameisntlouise · 02/02/2020 17:54

@peachgreen I know, right! It was history from like 200 years ago (or something, I'm not good with eras) talking about the first owner of the house. You know how it's not as tragic if it happened a long, long time ago??
