Anyone fancy a grumpathon with me about current sayings that drive you mad?

There are so many at the moment, I'm not the only one who can't stand this nonsense, am I?

Are you me?

XXX is my spirit animal.

I can't even.

Dead.

I'm so extra.

"Super" in front of everything to mean "very", - or sometimes not really to mean anything at all. It seems to have made into mainstream journalism/magazines/online publishing too. I loathe it.

Also young people texting messages with loads of repeat letters in it for now reason. Eg: "Yeppp, will dooo." I get this from colleagues in their 20s at work. What's it supposed to signify? A generally relaxed manner? Grrrr.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 01/02/2020 18:53

AuntieStella · 01/02/2020 18:53

'Optics' when what is meant is 'appearances' or 'image'

I always think of a line of spirits behind a bar Gin

YukoandHiro · 01/02/2020 18:55

Ha ha ha @trippingonsunshine I love that you're being mislabelled as a boomer - time for a mini lecture on the particular hardships of generation x!

BennytheBall · 01/02/2020 18:56

'Ick' and 'poorly' coming out of the mouths and fingers of grown adults.

Yes! Also adults that say 'tummy' or 'sniffles' or any mimsy euphemism for a fanny.

iklboo · 01/02/2020 19:00

Aww. I like 'foof'. It's like an onomatopoeic queef Grin

ALongHardWinter · 01/02/2020 19:00

'Thinking outside the box and 'going on a journey' are 2 sayings that irritate me.
Another phrase I'm hearing more and more lately is people in shops saying 'Can I get' when asking for something,as in 'Can I get a small latte'. I feel like saying 'No,you can't 'GET it',you can HAVE it,the member of staff will get it!'.

Ursaminor · 01/02/2020 19:01

"Across" as in "across the BBC" - I don't know why, it just grates. Also "strong", as in " a strong trainer look" - likewise, urrgh!

TrippingOnSunshine · 01/02/2020 19:01

Yes!! Thank you @YukoandHiro!
I'm Generation X! (The Jilted Generation)! Grin

MincePiesGetInMyBelly · 01/02/2020 19:02

"I know, right?"

ALongHardWinter · 01/02/2020 19:03

Just thought of another one. People who say 'right' after every sentence. I was listening to a phone in show on the radio last night and a man phoned in who kept saying 'right' after every few words. I had to switch the radio off until he had gone as it annoyed me so much.

iklboo · 01/02/2020 19:04

Starting sentences with 'so', ending with 'right'.

'Can I get..?'

Can I get a coffee?
Yes come round here and get one.

Can I have a coffee?
Of course.

It really really annoys me!

Lailaha · 01/02/2020 19:11

thebluearsedfly frankly, any sentence that has a verb followed by done/gone/whatever without 'to be' in between. Makes me feel a murderous rage.

As does, for that matter, choccies/choc/sicky/icky/yummy/veggies/belly and all other infantilisations used by grown adults. But I'm quite intolerant Grin

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 01/02/2020 19:12

Gossip headlines that read 'so and so just trolled xxx on insta and it's giving us life/ we're here for it / this is everything / any variation!Angry

MrsFiddymont · 01/02/2020 19:13

Reaching out is another one.

TerrifiedandWorried · 01/02/2020 19:14

Mimsy is an excellent euphemism btw

TerrifiedandWorried · 01/02/2020 19:15

Yeet has faded in this house too.
DS1 is really into jazz and described something on the radio as 'stank'. I don't know either.

YukoandHiro · 01/02/2020 19:18

Oh god yes, journey is the absolute worst!

TheQueef · 01/02/2020 19:28

Basically.
Basically.
Everything has become basic here, I'm even doing it Sad

ulvie · 01/02/2020 19:28

Ooh, I like grumpathon. I have them regularly but never had a name for it before Smile.

My dislikes have mostly been mentioned:

Making memories (you're just doing stuff like go on holiday, out with friends - people have always done this, nothing new here).

This one (don't actually understand the logic/grammar here but I am old).

My bad (it doesn't even make sense).

SomeLikeItTepid · 01/02/2020 19:31

#blessed ..... oh nob off!!!!!
