Anyone fancy a grumpathon with me about current sayings that drive you mad?

There are so many at the moment, I'm not the only one who can't stand this nonsense, am I?

Are you me?

XXX is my spirit animal.

I can't even.

Dead.

I'm so extra.

Being transparent... my boss always says this.
I feel I should be a jellyfish

ChinookPilotsGoVertical · 01/02/2020 22:50

"needs gone" appears a lot on threads like this, it's a Scottish usage & is perfectly fine.
"Around"
"So" to start a sentence
"myself /yourself"
"Inbox me"
Overuse of "like" & "literally"
"cheeky" I don't really mind if it's used to mean a quick pint or a takeaway you're not supposed to be having. In military usage "cheeky" means demanding or dangerous eg "that PT session was a bit cheeky" or "that attack was a bit cheeky".
A lot of this rubbish irritates because it doesn't make sense, people ought to be made to speak accurately & we ought to be able to taze people who witter this gibberish...

The tween ones crack me up and I love embarrassing my kids by saying them back in front of their friends. They still yeet on occasion but they don't get away with "ok boomer". "Go ham" is a new one.

NameChangeNugget · 01/02/2020 22:56

Anyone that says “can I get” as opposed to “can I have” or “I would like”

BTEC New Yorkers

adhdme2019 · 01/02/2020 23:04

‘Can I get ...’ is such a Scottish thing Blush

I don’t like this new ‘I’ve/she’s got the ick’ thing that’s being bandied around.

MrsFezziwig · 01/02/2020 23:05

Go/place without “to the” in between.

SeaViewBliss · 01/02/2020 23:24

‘I was today years old when I found out .....’

Angry
AdaColeman · 01/02/2020 23:36

Nom
Yum yummy
Can I get
Needs eaten, needs done etc.
Feel the ick
Myself used incorrectly
Should of/could of

All drive me mad, and me so easy going too! Wink

Alwaysfrank · 01/02/2020 23:45

Everyone now seems to be "excited for" rather than "excited about". I'm forever pulling up my kids on this, drives me nuts.

ALongHardWinter · 02/02/2020 01:29

I hate the term 'wellness'. What's wrong with 'well being' or just 'good health'?!

Name7 · 02/02/2020 01:53

Correct or yes or no at the end of a question. “You are from Wales, correct?” “You are going to LTB, yes?” Always feels so aggressive!

GlummyMcGlummerson · 02/02/2020 01:59

"Ok boomer" - which I've noticed people say when they don't have an actual response to something.

Getoffmylilo · 02/02/2020 02:10

I also hate 'no?' or 'yes?' at the end of a sentence, aggressive and lazy. Current pet hate is a workmate's new phase of calling everyone 'pal'. He must say it fifty times a day.

tobee · 02/02/2020 02:15

Explainer :- at the end of piece of news piece for example

Myself/yourself etc is getting more prevalent.

Now this is a surprise to me. I'm Scottish and wouldn't say either of those things, so perhaps they're local colloquialisms? (I'm from Glasgow). I know that if I'd said either of those things as a kid my mum would have most definitely corrected me while handing me my arse at the same time for being rude. 😂

Pretty much all the ones mentioned annoy me.

Also when people refer to their sons as ' the boy' e.g just off to football with the boy.

wonkytonkwoman · 02/02/2020 07:50

"I'm gonna peel off" or "I'm peeling off now"

Struggled hugely with that one back in the mid/late 80s.

FFS sake just say you're leaving now, or even goodbye!!!

bellinisurge · 02/02/2020 07:58

Behaviours. I fucking hate hearing at work about "demonstrating behaviours". Plural. With an "s".
But I can't tell anyone at work because I suspect it would be demonstrating bad behaviours. Grin

AJPTaylor · 02/02/2020 08:10

The way people have swapped very for super. Dd is super bright. I am super busy. Etc.
And people no longer cook their dinner. They go and prep.

freeingNora · 02/02/2020 08:13

Everything is "guys" at the moment and "super" instead of very

Also at the end of a sentence ,as in I went to town also, drives me mad ,it's too !

BossAssBitch · 02/02/2020 08:39

Just ask myself Angry

'Train' when someone's just going to the gym. You train for a marathon, or you have football training. Doing some crunches and lunges for half an hour twice a week is not training for anything.

'Poorly' is grim as well. I have a colleague who says both poorly and peeps - as in "hey peeps" in the morning. I bite my tongue a LOT.
