Did your newborn get a vit k jab in the last 5 years?

When I had my first 2 children in 2006 and 2007 they both had vitamin k jabs that I had to consent to, which I did obviously being told they needed them.
But when I had my 3rd in 2014 they didn't do one when I asked about it the midwife seemed shocked and said 'god no we don't do that any more' she didn't say why (I didn't ask - I had just given birth!)
But yesterday I was on an NHS childbirth site dated 2019 and it said 'when your baby is born it will get a vit k jab...'
So do they still do it or not???

DS is 10 weeks and he had one.

SpiderVictim · 29/01/2020 13:10

I've had babies in 2012, 2014 and late 2019. All were given vit k (midlands, if it makes any difference).

Seaandsand83 · 29/01/2020 13:11

2015 and my baby had it

2017 and mine had it.

YouCantBeSadHoldingACupcake · 29/01/2020 13:12

Dd was given one 3 weeks ago when she was born, fairly certain all mine had it done, (2007,2008,2009,2010,2012,2013,2017,2020)

NamelessNinja · 29/01/2020 13:12

Mine had it in 2017

PsychosonicCindy · 29/01/2020 13:14

What?!!
I am so shocked why would she have said that?
And my 3rd & 4th children didn't get the jab they should've had then!
I suppose it doesn't matter now they are 5 and 4 but can't believe I got told wrong information and my babies were at risk!

All 5 of mine had them, born between 2010 & 2017. Warwickshire here.

user1483387154 · 29/01/2020 13:17

2017 mine did

Clangus00 · 29/01/2020 13:17

My DD got them as oral drops, but she was premature.

JumpingOnTheBed · 29/01/2020 13:17

2017 and my DD had it - it was an option and we said yes.

mynameiscalypso · 29/01/2020 13:18

DS was born last year and he had it.

ChillyB · 29/01/2020 13:20

I’ve looked in DS red book as I didn’t know the answer (he was swiftly taken away to SCBU). Yes he was given it, in 2018, in North Yorkshire. He was slightly prem at 36 weeks.

DarkLikeVader · 29/01/2020 13:20

DS and DD had oral drops of Vit k, 2012 & 2017, Midlands and Somerset

Nalanoodle · 29/01/2020 13:26

Feb 15 baby definitely had it. I can't remember with my son but I'm sure he would of.

PsychosonicCindy · 29/01/2020 13:26

Well I've just checked my red books and actually 3rd dc did get it so it was just dc4 that didn't, the space for it in the red book is blank. That makes sense actually because dc4s birth was a bit of a mismanaged affair with a disinterested midwife (and a misinformed one as it turns out!)

Yes, 2016. I had to give consent for him to have the injection, Its one of the few things I actually properly recall about when he was born.

TreesSandSea · 29/01/2020 13:27

Mine had jabs in 2009, DS had drops in 2014

Maybe the hospital switched from jabs to drops?

AllyBamma · 29/01/2020 13:27

Yep mine born in 2018 had it

PsychosonicCindy · 29/01/2020 13:30

She definitely didn't have drops because as I understand they are given in a few doses?
Also nothing is written in the red book any way.
I distinctly remember her shocked face and tone saying 'god no we don't do that anymore'
Blimey.

Yep DD had it last year.

pollysproggle · 29/01/2020 13:39

Yes I believe my 2016 baby did. DC1 was born in 2007 and he did too.
Isn't there a connection with vitamin K and breastfeeding/formula.
I though you only needed it if breastfeeding as formula was fortified in it?
Don't quote me on that!

HuloBeraal · 29/01/2020 13:40

2012 and 2017 and yes. No nothing to do with breastfeeding but to do with a blood clotting disorder.

Bluebutterfly90 · 29/01/2020 13:43

My baby is 3 weeks old and he had it.
I wonder why they wouldn't have done it? How odd. Hmm

WeakAsIAm · 29/01/2020 13:46

As a Paediatric nurse I ask all parents of new borns if they've had a vit k. It is something I believe is offered to all babies at birth.
Why your children were not given it is a mystery Confused
It is too late now unfortunately, vit k is given to help newborns be able to clot their blood if required until they are able to ingest the required vit k levels through their diet.
It shouldn't be a problem now for your babies but if I had the time/inclination I would investigate why your babies were not given it. It could be a training issue for the midwife.
