Anyone think 14 units a week is really low?

The average bottle of wine is I believe about 9 units so 14 units is less than 2 bottles a week. I drink more than that! Does anyone think it’s pretty hard to stick to 14 units?

If no country has the same recommended units as the UK then do we not maybe think that the research and evidence is somewhat shaky? If it was clear cut then every single country would have to same advice. They don’t. Because the evidence is lacking.

Not saying 30 units a week is healthy. But to demonise people who drink 15 units is wrong too.

Moderate drinkers live longer than teetotallers. Now yes that doesn’t mean cause and effect, many other factories come on to play. It’s interesting though.

How does it compare to other country's recommended limits?

Nearest I have found is this summary:

The best thing is to notice how it affects you- mood, health, ability to concentrate, sleep, weight, food choices. If it's affecting you adversely then cut down- for me it is if I do regularly go over the recommended limit. And I start putting weight on and getting ill with minor colds, aches and pains and more grumpy and tired if I'm having more than 20 units a week regularly as I occasionally do on holiday, in the summer and in December, and my gut really doesn't like it at all.

Boringly, if I have more than 4 units in a sitting it probably will mean I have a poor night's sleep.

Low compared with what? Other countries? Well it's lower than some and higher than others. Low compared with the amount that constitutes a health risk? Nope. It's low compared with how much I used to drink when I drank too much. It's more than I drink now.

MN unsurprisingly has a wide range of levels of drinkers (contrary to the oh so hilarious claims of the posters who say "Oh you're perfectly fine, love. But all of MN will say you shouldn't drink more than a teaspoon of sherry a year".
