Am I eating too much food?

Hi all,

I feel very podgy for my petite little frame (currently 9 stone 13) and I need your opinions on whether I’m eating too much. Here’s my average daily intake:

Cereal such as all bran or shredded wheat, half a bowl with drizzled honey and almond milk
A chocolate bar (I know I know)
A salad- lots of leaves, half a can of tuna, half a can of sweetcorn and some honey and mustard dressing
Salmon and vegetable stir fry with 2/3 a pouch of rice
A naked bar or a v small bowl of cereal in the evening

Please be gentle in your replies, I’ve been through hell with body dysmorphia in the last few years.

Honestly that wouldn't be anywhere near enough for me and I'm average weight/height/size.

PurpleDaisies · 24/01/2020 14:03

How many calories is that? It doesn’t sound a lot.

DearHappy · 24/01/2020 14:03

I would be starving on that.

My honest opinion is you are hardly eating anything! How tall are you?

BeckyButters · 24/01/2020 14:03

How tall are you? I don't think that's too much food.

Purplelion · 24/01/2020 14:05

I am currently watching what I eat after recently giving birth, I eat a lot more than you do in a day and I’m loosing weight!

user1480880826 · 24/01/2020 14:08

It doesn’t sound like much to me. But you are adding extra sugar where it’s not needed which could be the cause of your problems (honey on cereal and on salad!)

boatyIII · 24/01/2020 14:10

I'm a size 10 and I eat a truckload more than that!

Theredjellybean · 24/01/2020 14:11

It's about what I eat.. I wouldn't have the chocolate bar or evening snack.
But it depends on how active you are, how tall you are and how old you are.
Plus of course Portion sizes..

LimpidPools · 24/01/2020 14:12

Sounds sugary. Think I'd want to trade out some of the sweet things (chocolate bar, evening cereal/naked bar) for something more substantial. Like oats. Or a potato.

Theredjellybean · 24/01/2020 14:12

Plus I am always amazed by how much people eat on mums net... And yet all stay size 10.

Skyejuly · 24/01/2020 14:13

The calories of that would be high I think for what you get.

BunnyTails · 24/01/2020 14:16

I’m a large size 12. I’m 5 foot 3. I ate less than this before but was constantly lightheaded and starving and managed to get down to 8 stone 4 but it wasn’t sustainable.

Get rid of all the sugar and have some fat instead. Protein to fill you up.

MadeForThis · 24/01/2020 14:20

It's not slot of food but there is sugar with every meal.

BedraggledBlitz · 24/01/2020 14:21

That's diet portions. You'd be horrified by what I eat!

GeorgiaGirl52 · 24/01/2020 14:23

What do you drink during the day? Any alcohol? Sweetened tea or soft drinks? Whole milk or cream? How much water? There are calories in liquids too.

DishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 24/01/2020 14:24

It's quite minimal food but it's probably quite a lot of calories for what your getting iyswim

Its not very substantial and I'd be hungry. There's no fat, and lots of sugar. Things like your evening snack, why the cereal? I'd try to have a bigger dinner and no cereal. Then have the chocolate bar as a pudding and some fruit/cheese/hummus as a snack

zafferana · 24/01/2020 14:24

I agree it's not a lot, but there's a lot of stodge and sugar in there. You'd be better off eating more protein and ditching the sugary cereal, the honey, the honey-mustard dressing (just make vinaigrette instead) and the chocolate bar. If you need a snack, eat a banana (complex carb, potassium, fibre). Scrambled eggs with wholemeal toast would be a better breakfast, or an omelette, or Fage yogurt (which is high protein) with seeds and berries.

Beautiful3 · 24/01/2020 14:25

I eat more than that, I'm a size 10 and 5f 2. Maybe give yourself more like a whole can of tuna, sweetcorn and a the rice. More fruit and vegetables to bulk it up. Jogging in the morning/evenings is good for kick starting your metabolism.

DishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 24/01/2020 14:25

It looks to me like a diet of someone who's trying to eat as little as possible really. Someone who's cutting calories rather than eating healthily. Does that make sense?

zafferana · 24/01/2020 14:25

Why are you eating cereal after dinner? If you're still hungry add more salmon to your stir fry or have more (brown) rice.

FrenchJunebug · 24/01/2020 14:26

OP you don't eat much but some meat once a week would be good. Also size 12 is not being fat!

mynameiscalypso · 24/01/2020 14:26

In the nicest possible way, I don't think this thread is a good idea given your history with body dysmorphia. These type of threads always bring out the worst of MN. Personally, I'd see a nutritionist who has experience in disordered eating / body dysmorphia if you want to discuss it with someone. Take care of yourself Thanks

ToastandCheese · 24/01/2020 14:27

It’s a lot of sugar. Apart from that it’s not anything at all.
