What do you watch on TV with your 8-11 year old boys?

Because I'm struggling to find something that they enjoy which is still interesting to me.

They're staying up later so I want to be able to flump on the sofa occasionally and watch something as a family.

But there's only so many nature docs I can stand!

IS there anything young-boy-friendly and enjoyable for adults on freeview / netflix / amazon?

Midsomer Murders, Match of the Day and Spring/Autumn Watch.

LakeFlyPie · 23/01/2020 22:01

We're watching Fawlty Towers with DC (9+11) ATM. They love Manuel and howl at some of the episodes. There is the odd 1970s cringey moment but it's worth it Grin

The Good Place brings up lots of interesting conversations.my 10yr old and watch Doctors on catch-up. Some themes are very interesting to talk about. I struggled with the Viagra overdose episode.

ILikePaperHats · 23/01/2020 22:15

Crackerjack is back and it's pretty good! I enjoyed watching it with my boys, aged 12 and 6. The Dog Ate My Homework (kids' quiz show) is also good. Both on iPlayer.

tunnocksreturns2019 · 23/01/2020 22:17

My 10, 8 year olds and I like Gortimer Gibbons Life on Normal Street - free on Amazon Prime

ImportantWater · 23/01/2020 22:24

My boys are 9 and 12. We have watched Bake Off, Dark Materials, Greatest Dancer, Dr Who, Strictly, Pointless, Richard Osmans House of Games. We have just started watching The Simpsons, Brooklyn 99 and Would I Lie to You, which to be honest aren’t particularly suitable for the 9 year old, but I try to engage him in conversation or send him on errands if I think things are getting too old for him!

CalleighDoodle · 23/01/2020 22:26

Sugar rush

Is Scrapheap Challenge available on any channel at the moment? My two went through a stage of loving that.

PenguindreamsofDraco · 24/01/2020 06:41

Takeshi's castle, Ninja Warrior and Wipeout are perennial favourites here.
He adored Carnage, which was as far as I can see one series only with Freddie Flintoff.
Lego Masters and Strictly when they're on.

margaritasbythesea · 24/01/2020 06:46

We're loving Outnumbered at the moment. Merlin, sometimes Bake Off or Sugar Rush.

He'd love something else like Merlin but i can't find anything age appropriate.

Top gear/grand tour, abandoned engineering, engineering disasters, race around the world, BGT. I have watched more Jeremy Clarkson than I ever wanted 😅

Tigerty · 24/01/2020 06:57

Merlin on iplayer. I enjoyed playing spot the game of thrones character too, and see where the inspiration came for the Daenerys/Dragon wings shot. Win win.
