What do you watch on TV with your 8-11 year old boys?

Because I'm struggling to find something that they enjoy which is still interesting to me.

They're staying up later so I want to be able to flump on the sofa occasionally and watch something as a family.

But there's only so many nature docs I can stand!

IS there anything young-boy-friendly and enjoyable for adults on freeview / netflix / amazon?

There is a new show on bbc2 this weekend about going to live in Alaska

Everybody loves Raymond might be a bit old for your DC but my DC loved it

Very old B&W films

Dickensian series on BBC from several Christmas ago think might be on iplayer

Grange Hill for 11 year old the original episodes are online

Obviously all of David Attenborough are available on DVD or blu Ray

If they like FAWLTY towers then Terry and June and Dad's Army was and still is loved by DC but bit older than yours

Our DC enjoyed watching carry on films but quite un PC nowadays depends on your viewpoint.

The Carry on Cowboy, Sargent, (the one when they all go to the wrong jobs - forgotten the title atm) and Screaming ones are favourites

There was a show that had a man dressed as a Raven or something like that that had teams of children doing physical challenges

There was another one they enjoyed was like crystal maze where they had to get monkey statues rather than crystals

Ski Sunday on Sunday afternoons about 6pm on bbc2

Awrite · 24/01/2020 07:22

Full House - there's 9 seasons of it. We're on our third run through.

PuppyMonkey · 24/01/2020 07:23

Got to be Lost in Space.

Also, Monty Python and the Holy Grail is a MUST.

Dr Who
Master chef
999 what’s your emergency
Helicopter paramedics
Air crash investigations

Micah · 24/01/2020 07:35

Mine are girls and we generally watch the above.

Why does tv need to be gender specific? Just because you are a different sex to your son doesn’t mean you have to sit through stuff you don’t enjoy because you think you can’t have anything in common because boy/girl tv is strictly defined..

BigusBumus · 24/01/2020 07:42

That obstacle course thing with The Wall at the end was always a favourite. Can't remember what it's called.

MockneyReject · 24/01/2020 07:44

We watch
Dr Who
Poirot (he actually cried when Hercule died)
Got What it Takes (for 'the cringe')
Any Bake Off/Sewing Bee/Pottery Challenge type competition
The Next Step
Love It or List It (Blush
The Supervet
The Zoo
The Chaser
Also, 80s classic movies, as PP.
Marvel/DC movies.

Mine are same age. We tend to watch films, marvel, Harry Potter, men in black, jumanji and the oldest has just got into mission impossible lol. They do watch Simpsons, ninja warrior, BGT, strictly, the oldest likes pointless and the Chase, David Attenborough stuff.

Inforthelonghaul · 24/01/2020 07:59

Most of the above but The Simpsons and Outnumbered probably favourites and still watched.

horseymum · 24/01/2020 08:07

Would I lie to you is an absolute favourite in our house!
Citizen Khan ( an acquired taste but if you like it there are loads on iPlayer)
Fawlty towers ( although does need some explanation of why some things aren't said now)

KundaliniRising · 24/01/2020 08:19

Mine loved wolf blood, they enjoyed it so much that we ended up buying all of the series on dvd.

cheeseismydownfall · 24/01/2020 08:22

Timeless

footchewer · 24/01/2020 08:32

No suggestions to add at the moment as mine are younger (maybe All Creatures Great and Small?)

Mainly wanted to say I'm 40 but I appear to have a 'television taste' age of 10.
