Anyone been to a stadium gig on their own?

A band I really love and have always wanted to see live are doing a stadium gig.

I've been to plenty of gigs on my own before but little standing only venues where you can blend into the crowd.

I'm apprehensive because I'll most likely be seated and it will be fairly obvious I'm alone.

If by some miracle I do manage to get tickets when they go on sale ( expected to sell out in minutes) I can't really afford to buy two I'm the hope of taking a friend and I don't know anyone who likes the band enough to pay the £££ they want per ticket.

Has anyone ever been to a massive gig like this before alone? How was it?

I wanna go so so badly.

I'm going to see Queen and Adam Lambert on my own in June in Manchester and I live three hours away. Got a single ticket and have booked a hotel. I figured we'll all be there for the same reason so I'm just going to enjoy it! Grin

I went to see Nine Inch Nails by myself at an arena. It was quite expensive and no-one else I knew liked them enough to pay.

I actually enjoyed the freedom of being on my own and once the lights went down no one could tell I was alone anyway.

Turned out to be one of the best gigs I have ever been to!

FrangipaniBlue · 21/01/2020 14:05

I had a seated ticket for the O2 when Bon Jovi did a residency and it was fab! I got a really good seat because SD you say there were odd ones empty.

I've also done standing on my own to see Bon Jovi 3 times and Foo Fighters once Grin

My DH doesn't have the same taste in music as me so it's go on my own or miss out!

I've been to dozens of stadium gigs and festivals on my own. Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, Royal Blood, Eagles of Death Metal, AC/DC, Metallica, Arctic Monkeys etc...
Even went to Oz on my own to see AC/DC.
Some gigs seated and some standing.
Its liberating to be out and about on your own with no one else to worry about losing or holding you back.
Everyone around you will be watching the band so no one will notice you are on your own and if they do I've always found others around me to be welcoming as we're all here with a musical interest in common.

IHaveBrilloHair · 21/01/2020 18:54

You know if you go on your own it's easy to find meet ups with others who are in the same position if you want to.
Im in a group for a gig I'm going to and I'm easily the oldest by at least 15yrs but we all have something in common.

Only awkward moment I've had was when I was last to arrive in the row of seats and the people already seated were disappointed to realise the random single seat in the middle wasn't going to be vacant to accommodate their coats for the evening.

Hope you manage to get a ticket.

IHaveBrilloHair · 21/01/2020 19:48

I've had that with the coats too!
If I'm on my own I generally go in just before the main act.
Tough shit though, it's my seat, and once the act comes on its all quickly forgotten about.

Kobrakid · 21/01/2020 19:52

So wish I could afford it! But I’m lucky and have seen them 5 times already. Do it they are amazing live!

IHaveBrilloHair · 21/01/2020 21:04

I'll be gutted if Dd doesn't get tickets, and I don't even like them!
There's something about seeing your favourites live that nothing else can beat.

Stabbitha · 21/01/2020 21:13

Its 3 hours from me but I have family in MK so i cab make a weekend off it.

The thought of going alone isn't a problem anymore... just whether or not I'll be able to get a ticket.

I'll update everyone Friday morning.

Good luck to anyone else who wants to go.

I went alone to a gig just this week and have done it plenty of times before.
If you aren't lucky enough to get a ticket first time around, don't despair. Go on Twickets and put out a ticket alert for that gig. You will get a mail each time someone with spares puts one up for sale. Don't panic as they tend to put more up nearer the actual date. On Twickets the unwanted tickets are sold at face value, so you won't be ripped off by touts.
Who knows, you may even get friendly with the sellers and so won't feel so alone there.
Good luck.

Jupiters · 23/01/2020 18:52

I'll be trying for tickets on the morning. DH isn't interested so I'm going solo!

IHaveBrilloHair · 23/01/2020 19:00

Oh yes, Twickets is brilliant.

CatsGoPurrrr · 23/01/2020 19:39

Oooo I’m desperate for these tickets!

I hope you get yours too.

midwestcharm · 23/01/2020 19:47

DH does sometimes. I don't think anyone else cares in the slightest that he is by himself.

Mydogatemypurse · 23/01/2020 20:00

Urs it's fine. Better even. You dont have to go bar or toilet when someone else wants to

MulticolourMophead · 23/01/2020 20:02

Does going to Download alone count? Did that and enjoyed being on my own.

HappyHarlot · 23/01/2020 20:04

Yes, twice. Once seated and once standing. It was brilliant.

ginandgingers92 · 24/01/2020 08:32

Already feeling tense. 😂
Good luck everyone 🍀🍀🍀

paisley256 · 24/01/2020 08:36
