I have had enough of my family so I am heading off to London for the day next Saturday. Please can someone recommend a lovely Indian restaurant for a lovely solo lunch?

Dishoom is lovely - various branches. I usually go to the King's Cross one, but the covent garden one is nice too.

Sorry your family are being crap! Hopefully a day off will help....

And you can have cocktails too.

For a real treat, I'd recommend Trishna.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 18/01/2020 18:07

Yes to Dishoom and it would be a nice place to be alone in as always bustling.

Palavah · 18/01/2020 18:07

Dishoom is good fun and good food.
Cinnamon Kitchen is delicious, less quirky setting

Palavah · 18/01/2020 18:08

Cinnamon Club is high end and lovely.

granhands1 · 18/01/2020 18:11

To be fair to them, they aren't doing anything out of the ordinary. I am just tired of being the go to person. All. The. Time.
I realised that I am only alone when driving to and from work and I made a stand Grin

Cinnamon bazaar

granhands1 · 18/01/2020 18:16

Thanks everyone, I have been looking at the menus and I cannot wait!

Dishoom is very very noisy. Hate to go there with a group, so maybe solo is perfect!

Roti Chai behind the Marble Arch branch of M&S is very good

MaliceOrgan · 18/01/2020 18:20

Gunpowder and Kricket are both gorgeous

Lunaballoon · 18/01/2020 18:30

Brick Lane aka ‘curry mile.’ Lots of choice if you fancy old school Indian/Bangladeshi food and Spitalfields nearby for browsing/people watching. Very near to Liverpool St station/underground.

Wigeon · 18/01/2020 18:33

We just discovered Kricket too (Soho). It’s excellent. There’s an upstairs where you mostly eat at the bar, which might be ideal if you are going by yourself. Then a downstairs which is tables and largely benches. I’d get there early as it’s small and popular!

tobee · 18/01/2020 18:37

Cinnamon Bazaar is great! Although maybe a bit more fun in a group?

The Red Fort certainly used to be excellent but haven't been in a while.

tobee · 18/01/2020 18:38

Ah! The Red Fort is currently closed and relocating!

jcurve · 18/01/2020 19:27

Darjeeling Express in Kingly Court - way better than Dishoom.

Feelingabitashamed · 18/01/2020 20:30

Booma, Kricket, Cinnamon Club or try tooting Broadway for some truly awesome south Indian food (cant think of names but I have never had a bad dosa there)

Palavah · 18/01/2020 20:38

Actually, if you're going by yourself then Masala Zone is actually pretty good because they do thali for one for dinner not just lunch, so you can get a selection.

BlouseAndSkirt · 18/01/2020 20:43

This place gets fantastic write-ups www.dhabasw11.com/dhaba/product/index?pid=B01000037-12

BlueHawaii · 18/01/2020 20:45

Try Gopals in Soho (just off Dean St)-amazing

LuckyAmy1986 · 18/01/2020 20:50

Gaylord!!

LuckyAmy1986 · 18/01/2020 20:52

Oh that’s closed ignore me

Veeraswamy is amazing

Elbels · 18/01/2020 20:53

You can't book Dishoom and for lunch the wait is lengthy

Depending on what part of London you're coming into I'd say Rasa in Stoke Newington (veggie is my preference) but it's a a bit of a pain to get to if you're relying on tubes.
