Black. We were adopted by a black boy about 3 years ago and he is, of course, the best cat in the world!

StCharlotte · 15/01/2020 08:20

Gingers are my favourites but we lost both ours last year and didn't want to try and "replace" them. Soooo.... we adopted these two mini-panthers at the weekend Smile

Black. But really any colour as long as they're cuddly.

black with green eyes

Damntheman · 15/01/2020 08:56

I can't choose! I love them all :D

I suspect black or red.

My current cats are both fluffy grey boys and they're gorge! I also used to have a white tabby and she was the prettiest thing I've ever seen. Cats are just gorgeous in general!

This is Sisco...she died last year aged 19...I only had 2 years with her...she'd spent her whole life outside or shut in a garage...She turned into such a lovely cat...I'm so glad I gave her 2 years of love...warmth and comfort.

Beamur · 15/01/2020 15:04

She looks extremely happy in that photo. How lovely after a hard life to spend her last years in warmth and comfort.

thecatneuterer · 15/01/2020 15:21

I'm with a cat rescue and there is a definite hierarchy in cat colours.

The most popular by far is grey/blue/silver (all the same thing)
Even an unfriendly, bitey grey cat will fly out of the door.

Then it's ginger

Then tortie/calico/tabby/tabby and white

Then black and white

And, way, way below all those are black cats. They are so very much harder to home than any others. Even the sweetest, friendliest black cats and kittens stay with us many weeks or even months longer than the other colours, and a shy black cat will have to wait months for a home, even years.

The shallowness regarding colour preference of so many adopters upsets and dismays me frequently..

FenellaVelour · 15/01/2020 15:22

My sister once had a female moggy whose fur was largely blue/grey but flecked with orange.

Our British Shorthair is blue-cream and that’s kind of what she looks like.

Oh, I forgot pure white from my list - they're near the top, along with gingers. Although they're a bit marmite with some people really disliking white cats

Seashellsandbuttons · 15/01/2020 15:24

I have only re-homed black cats since finding out that they were often chosen last.

I was 8 at the time and have only had black cats since. I'm now 33. Smile

EmrysAtticus · 15/01/2020 15:26

That is so sad neuterer. Our second DCat is almost entirely black (one tiny patch of white) and she is very shy. When she came to is she was stick thin and clearly had only been with the rescue a day or two. I did wonder why they were discouraging us from looking at other cats and just told us they were bringing her round. I realise now that they must have been so worried that she would struggle to find a home and saw us as a good chance for her.

She is an utter joy and yes she is shy but as long as you stay still she will be so loving and she is so gentle.

Beamur · 15/01/2020 15:33

My rescue is black and white. I picked her from a litter a friend was fostering, but to be honest it wouldn't have been my first choice of colour. But she was a super cute, fluffy mad looking floof and I liked her.

I had a pure white cat, she was the friendliest, loveliest cat imaginable. I lost her very young to an aggressive cancer.
I was finding white hair on things YEARS after she died😂

Tortoise shell (the ones that have got white on them).

HearMeSnore · 15/01/2020 17:50

Also rather fond of these spotty dudes. DSis used to have two. They were like little leopards curled up in the armchair. IIRC they weren't particularly cuddly but very playful and fun.

The shallowness regarding colour preference of so many adopters upsets and dismays me frequently..

That's awful. I can understand having a preference but I can't understand overlooking a cat just because it's the "wrong" colour. Perhaps those people should stick to toy cats if they're so shallow, though I guess it's a good thing that any cats are being rehomed. Black cats are so beautiful too.

The same is sadly true of dogs. Black dogs and brindle are so often overlooked. Whenever I get a rescue animal I always ask which animal has been there the longest and that's how I got my brindle dog who has the best nature,

EsmeShelby · 15/01/2020 18:17

Black

Panpastels · 15/01/2020 18:17

I like the look of tabbies but my latest rescue is a black cat (adorable) since I realised how hard they are to rehome.

RavenT · 15/01/2020 18:31

Black and white or just black. First rescue cat was black and white and he was so wonderful that I feel very loyal to the colour now Smile. Current rescue largely all black with white moustache.

StCharlotte · 15/01/2020 18:37

I genuinely don't understand the anti black cat thing. Admittedly our two are difficult to photograph but I didn't get them for the benefit of social media. They are not accessories FGS. Are people really that shallow?

LilyJade · 15/01/2020 19:06

This is my old (fluffy of course) black cat Millie who sadly died aged 10 Feb 2018. Then I adopted black & white Ebony.
Millie was rather feisty.

I deliberately asked our local cat rescue to look out for a black kitten for me knowing they are the last to be adopted. Black kitten is currently playing fetch like a dog with DS. He is turning into a right soppy mummy’s boy I love it!

I want a cat in every colour love them all.
