Hot Bovril is excellent and I plan on drinking more of it.

In the afternoons I think. In the winter.

I tried hot marmite and it was nice but not as nice as hot bovril.

Bovril is my favourite drink at the football!

I did try buying it and drinking it in the house once though, and it just wasnt the same.

ScribblyGum · 10/01/2020 15:39

My father in law drinks it at the football at half time.

I can not compare it to outside drinking, although I can see how it would lend itself to a flask.

It’s working a treat for me at just about this time. A salty hot beverage.

I love the chicken one, not so much the beef.

AwdBovril · 10/01/2020 15:41

I know you didn't post there, but... YANBU. I agree wholeheartedly. It is a most delicious drink.

ScribblyGum · 10/01/2020 15:42

There is a chicken Bovril?!!

I've just got up to put the kettle on after reading that what a fabulous idea....! Oxo tho not bovril.....

AwdBovril · 10/01/2020 15:42

I wish the chicken version didn't contain MSG, it sounds (otherwise) very nice.

AwdBovril · 10/01/2020 15:43

I am also heading towards the kettle... Grin

I remember, almost fondly, the time of heightened sensitivity to mad cow's disease, when Bovril became vegetarian.

I bought stocks of it before they changed it back, alas they have long since run out Sad

ScribblyGum · 10/01/2020 15:52

MrsGSouthgate, hot marmite is similar. I tried that this morning. It’s just not quite as, hmm, depth of flavour-y as the Bovril, but hits a spot that tea and coffee don’t.

A salty spot I reckon.

Damn, I've just finished a cup of coffee - wish I'd read this 10 minutes ago Brew

TheNoodlesIncident · 10/01/2020 16:02

There's nothing wrong with MSG though AwdBovril. It's a natural substance and is even created in the human body, albeit in very small quantities.

It's a myth that it causes harm in any way.

MrsT1405 · 10/01/2020 16:02

One of the strangest diets I did was hot Bovril with oatmeal. Lovely but didnt last long!

HotSince82 · 10/01/2020 16:02

Yes, both Bovril and Oxo. Hot drinks of the Gods!

AwdBovril · 10/01/2020 16:10

The mug was a gift, don’t judge. I feel it is strangely appropriate for bovril, not least because it’s very large. Grin

Has anyone tried the marmite XO as a drink? I like it to eat but daren’t try drinking it in case it’s a terrible disappointment. It is somewhat more flavourful that normal marmite - not something I imagine is easily done. And, I believe, vegetarian.

Hot Bovril is excellent and I plan on drinking more of it.
AwdBovril · 10/01/2020 16:13

@TheNoodlesIncident - it certainly causes me harm - MSG is one of my (admittedly many, varied & often unavoidable) migraine triggers.

billhubbard · 10/01/2020 16:17

I so miss hot bovril ,
Been vegetarian for 19 years and people seem to miss a bacon sandwich the most , not me I miss hot bovril .
I often have hot vegemite as it's more like bovril than marmite.

lostsoulsunited · 10/01/2020 16:20

Yuck! Hot marmite with tiger bread and real butter is lovely but Bovril Envy - not envy!

Still I suppose that the tiger bread and real butter would be OK if you ruined it had it with bovril Grin

Davros · 10/01/2020 16:22

Best out of the vending machine after swimming ...... 40 years ago.
I'm tempted to try it again, I've put it on my shopping list

AlCalavicci · 10/01/2020 16:37

@Davros
That brings back so many memories, I had to go to a sports corner once a month for PE while at school I hated PE BUT they had a vending machine and while all my school mates drank rola cola ( not even coke ) me and one of our teachers drank bovril , we formed a odd sort of bond over it, years after I left school I found out he was about to retire, so I sent him a jar of bovril as a gift and got a lovely letter back thanking me .

supadupapupascupa · 10/01/2020 16:49

On hot buttered toast for me. I prefer to drink miso soup which is similar

FadedRed · 10/01/2020 16:52

“Hot Bovril” - immediately brings to my mind the scene in “In Which We Serve” (classic British WW11 film), where Noel Coward says “Hot Bovril and Sherry” in his lovely iconic clipped vowels accent to the ship-wrecked sailors they have just rescued.

ScribblyGum · 10/01/2020 16:53

Aw that’s lovely @AlCalavicci.
